Too many ads. Content less compelling over time. Phoebe’s voice and delivery are annoying.

Informational and interesting podcast.

I’ve been looking for podcasts just like this one for so long. The stories are compelling, and the in-depth interviews between Phoebe and guests are fascinating. I love listening as I work on my homework, hobbies, etc. Driving is always better with Criminal, and I love telling my friends and family about the stories you guys share with us. Please keep this up! I always look forward to new episodes. ❤️

I love this podcast but ever since Vox acquired it, the ads seemed to have exponentially increased. I listened to other podcasts that are 3 hours with half the amount of ads. 5 stars for the content but the ads knock it down by 2 stars, it may seem excessive but so do the ads.

If only someone someone else, anyone else were the host. I can’t listen to Phoebe Judge. Is it just me?

Wonderful show

This has been one of my favorite true crime podcasts for years, but there are increasingl way too many ads. I rarely listen to it anymore. I enjoyed the most recent holiday episode about animals, but was annoyed by all the ads.

Didn't mind the ads when Phoebe recorded them. They were thoughtful and quiet. Now they're abrupt, and I find myself having to fast-forward multiple times an episode to get through them.

Been listening for a while now. Certainly the best podcast I listen to. And Phoebe has a magnetic voice by the way

I’ve been a fan of criminal since 2018 and have listened and re-listened to the entire podcast many many times. I particularly enjoy the different aspects of criminality that are explored by the podcast. Criminal covers crime in a gentle, thought provoking manner that I’ve not found anywhere else.

Criminal podcasts grab me every single time! It’s a great show and I often share it with friends and family.

I will listen to any podcast Phoebe hosts. She is the OG host, amazing voice and amazing questions. I’ve listened to this show for years, I love that it’s not too graphic. One of the best podcasts of all time.

I am someone who loves listening to stories. I started listening to true crime podcasts about 8 years ago, and stumbled upon this podcast at some point. After tiring of constantly looking for new shows to listen to, I migrated over to audible where I found joy listening to long books.

I currently spend my listening time on audible 90% of the time, while only listening to a few podcasts these days. Criminal has made that very short list.

Phoebe NEVER disappoints. I love her interviewing style, the diversity of podcast guests, and her ability to create truly original content. I laugh, I cry, I feel all the feels. I truly believe you can listen to any random episode and you’ll fall in love with this show.

I really appreciate how large the scope of topics this podcast manages to circle back to true crime. Almost always unexpected twists and definitely always great storytelling.

Credulous crap. Not even token rationality.

Used to really love this podcast. Cases were interesting, touching, told a different side of a story, and were informative. The past few episodes (British ghosts, a literal entire episode about alligators, etc.) are boring and are just random filler stories. Miss the older episodes but it seems they’ve run out of interesting content.

The title is slightly misleading. I find more often than not the stories are boring and a bit lackluster only scratching the surface of typically boring topics. I enjoy the narrator and think she does a great job, there’s so much potential to have this podcast be exceptional

This is such a great podcast! Phoebe Judge was literally born for this job & although CRIMINAL is good enough to stand on its own, she is EVERYTHING!!! My only complaint is I have no more episodes to listen to!!! More please!!!

Just when I think this podcast can’t get any better Episode 188: “John & Trooper”comes on…So I have to leave another review because I just want everybody to listen to it!!!

This is easily my favorite podcast, and it’s not even close, save for This Is Love. The topics, the presentation and the depth of Phoebe’s questions are just the start of why I love it so much. Her voice is angelic, and her carefully chosen words add an incredible amount of depth in their simplicity. I simply can’t recommend this podcast enough and do so willingly to my friends looking for a podcast. I usually send it to those not looking, because this is time well spent. Thank you Phoebe, for being an incredible human, sincerely.

Super interesting stories, I always learn something new. For an interview heavy show, it’s really well done. I’ve been going back into later episodes though and one thing sticks out - Phoebe’s voice, and how much it has shifted into this bizarre NPR style lilt. I don’t mind it most of the time, but sometimes it feels so extra and bizarre that it’s distracting, the cadence and inflections not really adding much other than confusion at why the choice was made.

My absolute favorite podcast to recommend. Phoebe is the coolest.

Production value is excellent. Content is great. I’m always excited when a new one comes out. Highly recommended

The title is extremely misleading. This is not at all what I would call true crime. I’m listening backwards and I haven’t made it to the earlier episodes, so maybe this started out crime related??

The stories are moderately interesting, but extremely superficial in their telling. I get that you can’t get too deep in 30 mins but some of the details that are left out really change the story. A quick example is the gloss over of Houdini’s death leaves the listener to assume he died from taking the punch to the gut.

It’s one of those podcasts where if I’m listening and I suddenly realize that I zoned out and missed the last 5 minutes, I’m like “meh” and don't bother to rewind.

Different yet familiar, every story Ive chosen to listen is fantastic; some I prefer not to listen since they can be truly heartbreaking. Nonetheless, they each end up with a touch or element of wonder, some funny, others just strip your human side raw. Love 🫶🏻

(Maybe the only imperfection of Criminal is the ads in the middle, cause ads in beginning/end is understandable, in the middle just dont mesh well.)

Like the other reviews have said, Criminal is not your average true crime podcast. These are human interest stories that center around crime. These stories are told from all aspects of crime and each episode is a surprising tail of someone new, always unexpected.

Why make up stories when humans have so many to tell? Each new episode is a treat. Phoebe is my favorite host and I’ll tune in for anything she helps produce. She has so much empathy for her guests and the way she helps you connect is so intimate. She has a gift! If you haven’t listened to This is Love, it’s great too. highly recommend!

This podcast is one of my absolute favorites. Phoebe is such a gem to listen to and you can tell she really takes her care with each episode. I hope this podcast continues for many years to come.

This is my all-time favorite podcast. I listen to a lot of true crime, but can tire of too much murder. Criminal brings such a varied and human approach to true crime that each and every episode is a refreshing surprise. Contrary to weekly podcasts, the biweekly format ensures good research in each episode. I like to “save up” episodes and listen as a treat to myself when I’m having a tough day. Phoebe is a fantastic and thoughtful interviewer. If I could give this podcast 10 stars, I would.

This used to be one of my favourites. Now all the ad breaks keep me from listening. It’s disruptive to the story and I no longer enjoy listening.
