Description

Bulletproof Executive Radio was born out of a fifteen-year single-minded crusade to upgrade the human being using every available technology. It distills the knowledge of world-class MDs, biochemists, Olympic nutritionists, meditation experts, and more than $250,000 spent on personal self-experiments.
From private brain EEG facilities hidden in a Canadian forest to remote monasteries in Tibet, from Silicon Valley to the Andes, high tech entrepreneur Dave Asprey used hacking techniques and tried everything himself, obsessively focused on discovering:
What are the simplest things you can do to be better at everything?
Welcome to being Bulletproof, the State of High Performance where you take control and improve your biochemistry, your body, and your mind so they work in unison, helping you execute at levels far beyond what you’d expect, without burning out, getting sick, or just acting like a stressed-out a-hole. It used to take a lifetime to radically rewire the human body and mind this way. Technology has changed the rules.
Follow along as Dave Asprey and guests provide you with everything you need to upgrade your mind, body, and life.

I like a lot of the things about your show but time to time I come across things in your podcasts which don't make sense to my experience at all. Your thing about keeping in a room that is totally blacked out at night and saying that this is more of our natural state. BUT, I live out in a very rural area in a valley with no artificial lights around at night and the reality is it is not pitch black 99.2% of the nights. Normally at night we have the moon, stars and fireflies. These produce enough light to see without needing a flashlight. I'm not suggesting using nightlights but rather that very smalls of light aren't different than what we have naturally.

Yes, the Bulletproof program has changed my life in the way it changed Dave's. I like Dave and what he is trying to do. So the podcast has great value for me. If you are not familiar with or using Bulletproof ideas in your life, the podcast may be challenging without the context provided by the book and life improvement.

I just started listening to this at the request of a friend. The topics are so interesting and refreshing to not just think that the Paleo diet is the end-all. I look forward to great guest speakers and topics on my way to work. And they are not repetitive at all but super relevant to having a happy healthy life.

This podcast used to be great for novices wanting to improve their knowledge of non-mainstream health topics. I could stomach Dave's one-upmanship on every guest when I was really interested in some of the underlying topics. But I can't do it any more. Dave has done everything before everyone else, done it better and faster. He tells every guest his life story in a really awkward way, by introducing the topic of his 'cured' ailments as if to say that he did it before his interviewee did. He says he has reversed his Asperger's syndrome .... yes he really does! Surely his mentors could advise him to display a little humility and let up on talking about himself and his own products. He clearly does not read his reviews. If you enjoy listening to an ego-maniac plug their latest book and every other product they have a financial interest in, then you might also enjoy listening to an hour long podcast with 1 minute of interesting information.

So much information, I can't stop listening.

Just realized that I have been listening for YEARS. Dave, you have introduced me to new ideas, many of which have brought cherished results to me (weight loss and mental clarity to name a couple). I see you as a visionary in the next iteration of good health.
Sometimes I cringe at all the experiments that you do on yourself, and maybe you are not always right - but I see you as a brave soul on the cutting edge who is willing to use your brains, common sense, imagination, and courage to explore these health issues.
I have also found other health "gurus" through listening to your podcast. This is valuable to me as I have little confidence in the medical professionals that I have access to and am able to afford.
I also purchase a fair amount of your products and I am torn between wishing they were more affordable and glad that you have high standards. Please keep doing your radical work.
Oh yes, PS, I am inspired that you have set a goal to live to be 180 years old. I used to have a goal of 120, but now I have revised that. I turned 60 this year and I do feel like my life is only a third finished ... since you are younger than me, I'll have to exceed that in order to see you blow out those 180 candles. Please invite me to the birthday party?

I keep coming back!

Oh, did I mention that he has a product for all your problems. You'd be better off fast forwarding his "podcasts", finding out about his guest and then searching online for him/her for the pertinent info vs listening to Dave talk over...and over and over (about himself, his company/products and who he knows) again! 3 stars due to the caliber of the guests, 0 stars for Dave.

I've listened to numerous Buletproff Radio podcasts. Most are quite good and very informative. Of course, you get the mandatory book tour people who have to make the rounds and go on every talk show known to man. The latest was John Mackey from Whole Foods. This had to be the worst interview I have ever listened to. Not only was this a self promoting endeavor, but Dave, did you have to abandon everything you know and agree with everything he said? When he said there were no scientific studies that a LCHF diet was healthy or imprioved longevity. You actually agreed with him. Did you not recently interview Dominic D'Agostino. The guy is a scientist and cited study after study when you spoke with him. How about Stephen Phinney or Jeff Volek. Maybe you are trying to get your stuff at Whole Food and don't want to piss him off. But please have some integrity and stick to what you know is right.

A big thank you for all you are doing for the community at large. I'm enjoying the variety of info and resources. As a mindfulness mentor, stress-management coach and healer myself, I applaud the useful content and inspiring stories!
Just a note about the podcast dated 3/28/17 on establishing good habits: it was mentioned snapping one's wrist with a rubber band as one method to change a habit.
Please let's remind ourselves that any time we "resist", "suppress" whatever it is that a part of us calls "bad thoughts, feelings, habits", we assume that these thoughts, feelings, habits" have no value, have nothing to contribute and cannot change.
However, when we relate to those thoughts, feelings, habits with gentleness and interested curiosity, at a body sensory level, (since these feelings/sensations don't speak to us in the language of the intellect), we allow the unclear to unfold, we as "self in presence" can greet "a more right of being to come" as my teacher Gene Gendlin, the father of "Focusing" who recently passed, used to say.
On the contrary, the resisting and suppressing strategy that is so pervasive in our culture only cuts us off from this beautiful life affirming process of self discovery and wisdom.
Thank you for this opportunity to share.

Like a truffle pig, Dave Asprey keeps uprooting unseen treasures.
I've read quite a few three star or lower reviews on here and mostly they have to do with the uppity way information is put out in these podcasts. I've also had a few eye roll moments, but I've had far more moments that have introduced me to new studies, new directions to take my own research, fascinating people, hate em or love em they're still fascinating, and from what I'VE seen, Dave Asprey is meticulous with what scientific studies he goes to. He's extrememly up front that he's not classically trained in the medical field, but he is setting one of the best examples of our time--that it is up to us as individuals to experiment with our bodies and see what works best for us in terms of health and energy. This podcast is an extension of his journey, and I have found it to be probably the top podcast as far as getting information on established studies, as well as fringe methods that you won't hear others talking about. I have loved ones who feel like they have tried everything to treat various ailments (speicifically autoimmune disorders) and visionaries like Dave Asprey are a constant reminder that you can always take your health a step further (sometimes in a direction you didn't even know existed) and connects with professionals in the field who are doing that TODAY. So my hats off to this podcast and Dave.

SO i've been listening to the the podcast and reading th blog for over a year. Dave Asprey and people who fallow his advice are far from bullet proof. By this i mean you will often hear how he can't eat this and he can't do this. And when they eat this food he get suppers sick.
If you have a sun burn and you touch it it hurts. And if you don't aggravate a sunburn so it dosent hurt doesn't mean its healed. And that what Dave Asprey aproctch to health is just not aggravate the problem, not heal it so you can be normal again.
So if you want to be bullet proof and be able to take a bullet ( gluten, dairy, and little bit of toxin ) and not be cripped by it. This isn't not the advice to fallow.

There is some great content in these podcasts, but I find myself fast forwarding as the self congratulation and bragging gets very old after awhile. Bulletproof Executive Radio was created after Dave Asprey co-opted Armi Legge's Superhero Radio then gave him the boot. Dave's apparently an expert on coffee(Bulletproof of course), Veganism(he was a Raw Vegan for a whole 3 months you know) and scientific research(no, he doesn't hold any degrees). He also has completed 120 Years of Zen which has not slowed down his Self-Absorbed, Egotistic, Name Dropping, Shameless Self-Promoting one iota.

I've listened to about a dozen podcasts. I can't listen to Dave Asprey congratulate himself on his latest ingenius bio-hack one more time. Dave has spent $250,000 seeking optimal performance and he's more than willing to sell you a quick-fix silverbullet bio-hack, too.
He does offer an interesting diet plan - sort of a paleo on steriods. However, he too frequently misrepresents the research he uses to justify his dietary ideosyncracies to win my confidence in his recomendations. It's not at all clear that he is trained to read the research he cites, and frequently uses non peer-reviewed sources or cites researchers with significant conflicts of interest. Further, he seems obsessed with detailed aspects of biochemistry without an appreciation for the overall complexity. As a result, his ideas come across as mechanistic and reductionistic.
The bulletproof logo in some ways sums it up: The logo depicts someone sitting in meditation. Yet Dave dismisses meditation as "too slow" based on a trip to Nepal where he attended one 10-day retreat. He then goes on to confuse samahdi and satori. Instead, he prefers Heart Math's gizmo and other expensive neurofeedback devices. No thanks, I'll go with the 2000+ year old practice over the latest thing.
My experience tells me that great health and optimal performance can't be bought with the latest gizmo or supplement. They are found through patience, hard work, deep rest, studying nutrition, falling in love with food, and cultivating attention and self awareness.
There are too many other great voices in the health/fitness/paleo/real food space to spend any more time with Dave Asprey.

Great information, difficult to listen to....

I think Dave Asprey is extremely knowledgable and I trust his opinion on almost anything health and performance related he discusses/writes; following his advice has produced great results for me, so I subscribe for that reason. However, I find that I have to force myself to listen to his podcasts: Dave provides a wealth of great information inside of a slightly pretentious and condescending tone, and a disappointing tendency toward confirmation bias. His interview questions are often phrased to inevitably support his theories and if the guest has a different perspective he either shoots it down or changes the subject. He repeats over and over again his "amazing" fat-and-sick-to-healthy-and-brilliant transformation story to every single one of his guests, as well as a pitch for his magical bulletproof coffee, and etc. It gets old quickly. I absolutely love his bulletproof coffee, it's just obnoxious to hear the recipe in almost every single podcast. Despite all this, I give it 4 stars because I still think it is worth listening to for his knowledge and insight.

This is one of the few podcasts that gets it right when it comes to health care. He looks in extreme detail on how food is processed, and what kind of toxins result from the processing. He has scientific references to back up his claims, and links are posted on his blog. Can't say enough good things about the podcast!

More info per podcast than any other podcast on Earth. It's great and bulletproof

Great for those that thought they knew it all

The podcasts are loaded with massive amounts of helpful information even if you thought you had your diet and lifestyle dialed in. We've been gluten free, paleo, low glycemic and organic for several years and yet I have never felt better than I do after just a few weeks on the Bulletproof Diet. Check your prior 'knowledge' at the door and get ready to learn about how to feel healthy, energetic and focused.
New format and investment in podcast technology and people are a big improvement to quality of audio but the important stuff is in every podcast from the very start.

Great info!

Amazing show. Chock full of info I've not heard anywhere else. Dave is super smart and offers a unique take on an optimal human diet. He's already convinced me to try MCT oil and grass fed butter in my coffee, Bulletproof style. I'm still not sure of the impact to brain performance but I honestly believe Dave. I think his intention is to help people by sharing his knowledge.

Love this podcast

I've only listened to a handful of these so far, but they are a bounty of information in regards to "biohacking" your diet and lifestyle. Really interesting guest interviews and a Q&A section that I'm always learning something very relavent to my own life with. I've really been searching for years for something like this.

So eye opening!

Heard Dave Asprey on a Joe Rogan podcast first, and after that just had to dive into his own podcast. Wow, what a wealth of information that I would'nt have even ever thought about. Life changing, I would say. The interview sound quality could be better, but I'm not taking off any stars for that.

Thanks Dave!

Thanks so much for this great podcast!! Love the interviews with experts, scientists and researches on diet, nutrtion, anti-aging, mental well-being and fitness. Also love your and Armistead's commitment and all of your comments. Also, the transcripts are fantasict and will make great additions to evernote and other searchable systems. I'm sure it takes a lot of time and effort to do them but they of great value to those of us who want to review the informationa and do further research.

This has grown to be my favorite podcast by far. After listening to about every health and paleo podcast out there, i just cannot get enough of the actual science that Dave and Armi include in this podcast. To steal a word from Dave, it has been 'transformative' to listen to these guys. Many thanks.

This podcast alone has forced me to examine how I eat and work out and has dramatically changed my approach to wellness. If you are serious about hacking your body to live the healthiest, strongest life possible with as little effort as possible, you HAVE to give this podcast a chance.

This isn't a joke. I found upgraded self while looking for brain hacking techniques to help my loss of concentration. After a few listens, I tried the bulletproof diet. This has literally changed my life. A foggy brain was causing me serious problems, but that's gone now. I've also lost wait, learned to be more productive and cured a life-long acne problem.

Really Excellent!!

I do not buy into all Dave´s recommendations - people are different. From hard earned experience, I know that very low carb, even in the framework he recommends, will havoc my hormones. That being said, I think this is an awesome podcast.
I like the optimization perspective on everything. It is not just a question of regaining health or being healthy, but being your best self in every possible way. The slightly elitist feel to the whole show is quite liberating. I have heard interviews with most of the people Dave and Armi have interviewed, but their perspective has its own flair.
Armi Legge, the co-host, is pretty cool, and seems less one size fits all in his diet approach. The fact that he is an endurance athlete is quite refreshing too, among an otherwise tendency to bash everything "cardio".
Nice work!

After hearing Dave on the Livin' La Vida Low Carb podcast, I decided to give his (this) podcast a try. Upgraded Self is now a permanent part of my podcast listening and is one of the few that I count as "can't miss a single episode".
If you are not dogmatic about nutrition and health, you should give this a try.
Update after listening to several episodes - this for me has turned into a listen ASAP along with Robb Wolf and Chris Kresser podcasts (3 total). I love that there is very little dogma to any of them and each has an honest search for what is genuinely best for us as humans.

One of the best!

I agree the podcast banter and the sound may need some work but they are getting the information out that no one else is talking about! This is great stuff and they are taking the Paleo template to the next level. I have made it though about half of the podcasts and I am astounded at the additional information I have gained, this coming from someone that has listened to all of the other Paleo pod casts, this is the next level! Love it guys keep up the great work

I am getting this info at just the right time in my life, can't thank Dave and armi enough for sharing their knowledge.I have been raw vegan ,vegan, vegetarian --you name it-- even as a pedicab driver burning thousands of calories in a shift I could not take weight off and it always left me puzzled because it seemed as though I ate so little and was always hungry. The bulletproof diet and the mental fuel you guys are giving me is life changing. An I feel amazing ... No more pain--- and a supercharged brain!

The pale diet is good, but this podcast is great. Everything is well thought out and from the most logical reasonable perspective. Dave really knows his stuff and is a good guy for taking the time on the side of being an exec to do this! Wish I had access to him for questions and guidance full time!

Both of the hosts talks about an incredible rannge of interesting and useful stuff related to health, longevity and fitness. They also have a lot of scientific evidence, which is always nice.
However, the audio is horrible. It only seems good when Armi is talking and for guests it is almost always bad to the point of not wanting to listen. The banter between Dave and Armi is also lacking. The format with them seems to be mostly let's talk about this, what Dave thinks, what Armi thinks and no play off of it.

Armi and Dave make for a weird couple

The podcast is hard to listen to as Armi will make a comment and then Dave will disagree (example is the calories count in the last podcast), then Armi wont challenge his point. Armi was much better with his superhero podcast. Also, I think Dave would be much better by himself. They just dont synch with each other, it is very apparant when you listen to other teams such as Robb Wolf and Greg Everett, Danny Roddy and Chris Kesser.

Learn about cutting edge nutrition and self improvement techniques that deliver major benefits with minimal time and effort. Achieving these things does not have to be difficult or expensive, just open your mind and soak up knowledge from "bio-hacker" Dave Asprey who keeps us apprised of new studies and ways to "bullet-proof" your health. Young athlete and rising star Armi Legge interviews various experts and picks their brains for tidbits and perspectives that challenge conventional wisdom yet point you toward true health. Great format, keep up the good work guys.
