Description

It’s a twisted love story that unspools like a film noir, where lust and obsession lead to murder and a classic double cross. This original series from Dateline’s Keith Morrison takes us into the troubled mind of a young man, and the cold heart of a woman who needed her husband dead. If only she could find someone “man enough” to do the deed... Follow and subscribe now and join us for the first two episodes on June 14th.

Great story, terrible ending

The story is so well told with enough details to have us imagine what was seen by the victims and guilty. This is one of those stories where not only do we have innocent and guilty but one is both. The monster in this story manipulates a man-boy and knows exactly how to get him to do what she needs him to in order to live a life without working hard again. Jaime in this situation is the classic case of what happens when a child doesn’t have his mother’s love and searches his whole life for it, only to find a user and abuser who leaves a trail of victims in her path. Keith does his research and views the scene photos himself, asks the victims and guilty questions to get more info for us and asks the right ones. He tells stories like a story book but without the fluff from fairytales. His sarcasm is noted and adds to the tone. I hope Ron’s girls heal over time and Jaime finds help through therapy. Both saw how wonderful Ron was and his legacy left.

Looking back, I’m surprised they were able to make as many episodes as they did to tell this story but it was one of the better ones and the information was laid out in a way you really don’t know how it will end.

It’s hard to believe that Jamie is this naïve or was “under a spell” of this women he’s just as much to blame as her . They were planning it for a while and he went along with all of it. They should both fry for taking a innocent man away from his family.

I feel deeply for everyone who was hurt by such a wicked selfish woman. She destroyed everyone’s lives with her predatory selfishness. As always, Dateline does an amazing job covering complicated stories. This is one of the best true crime stories I’ve listened to.

I am sorry but I never been this angry about a podcast until I heard this one and honestly I don’t feel bad for him because he’s just a boy and as the title says he’s an idiot. You should see what patti and jaime look like they both look like something tooked a dump in the middle of the earth.

This documentary plays like a movie - a movie reel became real life. This story is hard to believe, but it’s true. Jaime is no Fred MacMurray but filled the role of Barbara Stanwyck’s lover perfectly.
There are no words for the depths of evil in Patty.
Two innocent lives were destroyed by this malevolent entity posing as a femme fatal.

To the reviewer who’s a long haul trucker, you must have accidentally sped up the speed for the podcast.. it’s on the bottom left of the screen lol. Cuz it’s a great pod, & I hope you can find where to adjust the speed. Because it’s told at a normal speed, & If you adjust it you can enjoy it.

Long-time Keith fan here- but besides choice of narrator- this pod missed on every other mark. I could see a decent podcast possibly coming from this debacle- maybe if it wasn’t told from the ridiculous perspective of the gunman… or if it went deep into the twisted psychology of these trainwrecks… Or maybe not. I was waiting for it to end to review, but apparently it already did. Left me scratching my head. If you’re not a huge Keith Morrison fan I’d give it a hard pass

Leading questions, quick assumptions… yeah. We get it. From minute 2 or 3, it’s clear the primary female subject of this true crime podcast is a black widow. Would be way more engaging with even an *attempt* at an objective tone. Not research methodology, or reliability/depth/breadth of sources. TONE. That is how low I am setting the bar. There’s journalism, and then there’s sensationalism. Dateline, whether it’s on TV or in podcast form, is the latter. You can do way, way better in your pursuit of genuinely good true crime podcasts. I recommend you keep looking.

Keith Morrison is the voice of Dateline to me. I enjoy all of the crew at Dateline and each is special in their own way but……
Keith has a relaxing way of interviewing the people on each episode. I have to really concentrate on not falling asleep to his soothing voice.
I am Datelines biggest fan. I am so sorry for all the families that are involved but it really makes me think before I enter into certain situations… it also makes me realize to get away from certain situations that I may have walked into.
Thank you Dateline!

Exactly. What?! This woman was just totally insane and Jamie should not have been sent to jail as long as he was, as he was under her influence. Kieth Morrison turned this whole thing into a compelling roller coaster, but it wasn’t as good as other dateline pods like The Thing About Pam or Mommy Doomsday (listen if you are a crime junkie like me) all and all, pretty good pod! Kieth Morrison rocks 🪨

Pacing is awful

It’s a really interesting story but the episodes are super short and the pacing is atrocious. It tends to repeat itself/ recap a lot which is kind of a drag considering that takes up half the runtime and leaves very little real content each time. Also what is this delivery schedule? There’s been four episodes in a row that are ads for other shows while the last episode has weeks between it.

This is a MUST to listen too!

Anything with Dateline’s Keith Morrison is worth listening to and this is no exception. But, what the heck is wrong with Jaime? He really must be mentally disabled to believe all of these far-fetched plans of his so-called girlfriend. In a way you feel sorry for him, but maybe not because he killed a man. Crazy story.

Jaime is a textbook case of someone suffering from abandonment. So desperate for stability, so starved for affection, and so in need of human connection, of any kind, he was easily “groomed”, first by a teacher, then by Patty Presba, who saw him as little more than a tool. This is NOT a stupid man, emotionally broken, yes, but clearly not unintelligent. Patty Presba was on her FOURTH husband, and clearly enjoyed power over others using emotional and sexual seduction. She fits a profile of so many child abusers: even though Jaime was an adult by law, he was still emotionally a lonely six year old, and thus ripe for manipulation.

Mr. Ramos claims that he was rape and abuse as a child. Now where was Grandma and Aunties that love him so much during that time. It does not make sense that they just show up on the case when he was in New York??
He is making himself a victim of the crazy women but he’s story for me does not line up either. They are both guilty and should be execute for their crimes.

There are SOOOO many other Dateline episodes that deserve their own series

I remember watching this story air on the original dateline episode. In my opinion, out of all of the different stories dateline has ever done, this was one of the least likely episodes that deserve their own podcast series.
I don’t believe Jaime, he speaks so slowly and so measured that it seems like most of what he says is a lie. Jaime is clearly disturbed and had a history of violence against women. I’m not sure why we would glamorize his experience. It is also clear that Patty is disturbed for getting involved with him in the first place. Very unethical to get involved with a client/mentee, etc. Their future was doomed from the time they met.
The story is clearly weird, which usually makes for a good episode, but it should have been left as just that, a dateline episode, not a 6-part podcast special.

Good walking shows!

Love the Seduction. Hymie was perhaps the most stupid person that I ever have heard about. My God - the kid was dumber than a box of rocks. When she shot him 3 times and through him in the car and made him go get a hotel room - then ended up in jail and figured out how they could communicate and he was still going to take the fall. Buddy, I have no words.

Usually Dateline and Keith make some good podcasts, but this one is POINTLESS. Not even Keith’s buttery voice or theatrics can save this one. Jaime gets too much airtime and is almost portrayed as a victim, when he was just a man-child who is a lying murderer. Too many drawn out, boring episodes about a bunch of idiots. Hope the next podcast special they put out is a better story. BLAH.

Interesting story, but too long. Parts of the interview with Jamie keep getting repeated. This kid threw his life away because of his naivete & immaturity. Patty is pure evil & nothing to look at. 40-some yrs of a sentence isn’t enough for her, she should’ve gotten life. I feel really bad for Ron’s daughters - they are both a class act having kept their integrity throughout the entire ordeal.
Keith is, as usual, awesome. I could listen to the man all day long. Can’t wait for another Dateline podcast narrated by Keith!

This podcast is so so sad. Here we have Jaime who is obviously suffering from CoDependency issues. He’s looking for a mother figure to make up for his deprived childhood. Patsy is a snake in the grass. She saw Jaimes defects and immediately latched on to him. She’s the devil disguised as Porky Pig….. Ron is the true victim. A good man died for lust and greed by the hands of Jaime and Patsy.

Here is an amazing story. A really amazing story. But I really lost interest quickly because of the endless repetition of details. This is a case that was fascinating, but heavily depended on too many repeated scenarios by the presenter with the sonorous voice.
The latter knew the story, and stretched it out into a series much longer than it needed to be. Or his bosses did. The series of podcasts smacked of commercial drama, over-plied by drama, repetition, and advertising.
