JANE F-ING FONDA

Time: 56:44
1. Why she left her body as a child and how she finally reintegrated 50 years later.
2. How, even as a public warrior for the highest ideals of democracy, she’s never had a democratic marriage – and when she knew she had to leave each one.
3. Her deepest fear, why she became happiest at 62, and a peek behind the scenes of her 85th birthday party.
4. How, despite coordinated FBI and White House campaigns to vilify her, she’s kept showing up.
5. Ways to get involved in her fight to defend the environment – and an invitation to march with her. Tomorrow in D.C.!

Description

I’m Glennon Doyle, author of Untamed, the book that was released at the very start of the pandemic and became a lifeline for millions. I watched in awe from my home while this simple phrase from Untamed – WE CAN DO HARD THINGS – the mantra that saved my life twenty years ago, became a worldwide rally cry.
Life is freaking hard. We are all doing hard things every day – we love and lose; we forge and end friendships; battle addiction, illness, and loneliness; care for children and parents; struggle in our jobs, our marriages, our divorces; we try to set and hold boundaries – and we fight for equality, purpose, joy, and peace right in the midst of all the hard.
On We Can Do Hard Things, my wife Abby Wambach, my sister Amanda Doyle, and I do the only thing that has ever made life easier: We talk honestly about the hard. We laugh and cry and help each other carry the hard so we can all live a little bit lighter and braver, free-er, less alone.

I am a pod squader, 100% Your success is unexpected, not. I knew from my first listen that there is hunger for real people who are courageous to bring us all into vulnerable spaces. We need to laugh and find the best in each other. We need to believe we can change the world. Thanks Glennon, Abby and Amanda for stepping up to share your perspectives and helping us to all to do hard things.

These are the conversations that validate that I am not crazy, you’re not crazy, we’ve all been living in this insane world, and having these insane experiences, and there is power and freedom in speaking about them, and that is what this podcast is about. Calling the world out for the crazy things it does to people and especially to women. And doing it with humor and deep love and compassion. It makes a difference in my life.

Absolutely illuminating.

I know you only asked for positive reviews (?) and I love your work sooo much, but have never been able to get through an entire podcast. I so want to connect with you, like in the pandemic days of morning mtgs. I needed those mtgs so much (thank you). But there is something lost to me here. Something too brash, too overdone, too righteous. I liked your content so much better, stripped away. Thank you for it all.

Some shoes are great, others make no sense. It’s just a conversation between a few women that’s really not going anywhere. Glennon going off tangents is even more confusing.

What a perfect blend of piercing, yet comforting truth and humor.
I’ve learned I cannot listen to this show before work bc makeup gets ruined from the tears of laughter. There is zero chance I’m applying makeup twice in one day.

Thanks so much for this one- I loved hearing a real time reflection on your boundaries for the show. I wonder what it would be like if more businesses, especially service-based (I’m thinking restaurants) had similar boundaries, and how they could state them not in a threatening way, but as information and expectation. Knowing you are supported, especially as women, and especially in your workplace, shouldn’t be as revolutionary as it is. I love your show. Thank you.

I love this podcast so much. The three hosts are such genuinely kind-hearted humans, and their conversations are always interesting, heart-warming, and funny too! I so appreciate all that I’ve learned from them and their guests. Every time I listen, I am left with a feeling of calm, hope, and expansive open-heartedness. The song at the end moves me to tears! This podcast is changing the world: a love and kindness revolution that begins with vulnerability and courage. Thank you for shining your light and sharing it with us! 💖✨

I love hearing all of you, love that you’re so amazing and so normal too. I enjoy that you are so different from each other and there is love between you and appreciation for all your differences.
Your embarrassing moments made me laugh out loud. Other episodes are encouraging or thought-provoking.
Glennon, I’m so introverted and love silence and solitude so much. I share much of your faith journey and still BELIEVE, just quite differently than what I was taught. Yoga, meditation and nature all speak to my spirit. Writing saves me and helps me make sense.
Keep telling us your stories and bringing others’ stories to us too. You are important voices for us.

This podcast has become so therapeutic for me, I go for walks and listen. I came a little late but went back consumed every episode like nothing else. They always drop something that is so relavent to my life, thought provoking and something I can put into action. It’s wild how on point this podcast is. One day I was avoiding getting out of bed and an episode I was also avoiding/not ready to listen to randomly started playing on my phone. It got me out of bed and met where I was at the right moment. I always feel encouraged, sometimes a little called out but never shamed for being a work in progress.

So great! I love how you guys went deep on this one! It really resonated with me, especially when sister was breaking each of everyone’s love languages down to the “base” fear. 🤯😭 So good.

I used to be a huge Brene fan. I even own her books, have followed her for years. The second she got political and clearly showed doesn’t respect her conservative followers as well as her liberal ones, I was out. Brene….do better friend. O realize it’s hard to stay bipartisan during this climate but This was SO disappointing considering what you preach.

I have looked for a podcast like this for so so long. I am a therapist and it feels like I learn more listening to these episodes than I do listening to the typical therapist podcasts. You know why? Because it’s not about some abstract disconnected therapy concept. It’s not categorizing people as disordered or defective. This show is about REAL, whole hearted living and the process of self recovery we all must undertake. This show is a reminder of where our true humanity lays - in the “home” of our hearts, in the searching for what we have lost, and in the pockets of silence where we can simply be who we are. And to top it all off with, Glennon’s daughter Tish sings perhaps the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard at the end of each episode. Thank you thank you thank you!

Amanda is super smart. Abby is an overall delight. There are a lot of good conversations on this podcast and some good guests. Glennon (read some of her books, listened to every episode of this podcast, so I have datapoints on this) I find less compelling. The tendency to explain all of your personal preferences as pure righteousness is part of it. If I stop listening to the podcast midway it’s almost always because it just can’t take the righteousness anymore. It’s not about politics because I’m sure we are basically on the same page. I think she has higher than average narcissism levels.

Been here since day 1 and I can still confidently say that this is the best podcast ever. Everyone is so wickedly smart, especially Amanda. Love listening to her talk and showcase her intelligence and humor. Love that Abby has come on board full time because she has so many life experiences that I find incredibly compelling. I just wish Glennon wouldn’t cut off Abby at times or diminish her views or thoughts as less than hers.
Thank you for the empowering conversations- they make hard mornings much more bearable.

I love this show but it’s so gendered and obsessed with womenhood that sometimes it’s hard for me to listen. I say this as a woman. The hosts are incredibly gender essentialist and often boil down issues to “men vs women” in an incredibly binary, reductive way.
In a recent episode they celebrated the election of Sarah huckabee sanders as the first woman governor of Arkansas … in no way is that something to celebrate. This is someone who upholds abortion bans and aligned herself with Trump. Gender does not negate white supremacy, extremism or fascism.

I have been listening to this podcast almost since the very start of the show, and what it offers me on a daily basis is something that I simply don’t have words for. I have struggled deeply over the last two years with self, close relationships, and creating new relationships. As I navigate these waters, my weekly source of comfort often times IS this podcast. I cannot find a single other podcast anymore that I enjoy listening to NEARLY as much. Some of the best information and biggest realizations of my life recently have been a result of listening here.
