500 Teens Trapped On An Island With A Madman That’s Hunting Them

Time: 1:33:33
The summer sleep away camp for youths is held on the Island of UTOYA every single summer. About 500 teenagers will gather on the wooded island.
They sleep in tents, have bonfires, and tell creepy stories while roasting marshmallows.
But when the kids start playing games - that’s usually when the fun starts. Card games, tag, hide and seek -
A group of 11 teenagers were lying down in the grass right off the “Lover’s Path.”
“Here lay down right here and don’t move. Shhhh. Act like you’re dead.”
If a single one of them sneezes, coughs, or so much as moves - their covers are blown. They hear the footsteps getting nearer on the path… closer…
One of the 11 looks up.
There is a young guy, blonde hair, striking blue eyes - just standing over them.
She makes eye contact with him… he lifts his hand up and a black rifle appears.
He opens fire.
Out of the 11. 10 will die. 1 will survive.
Another 59 on the island will be killed within the hour. There is a mad gunman on the loose on an island full of teenagers.

Description

Rotten but still a little sweet! Rotten Mango is a true crime + all things spooky podcast. We love doing deep dives into the darkest crimes and we tend to not leave out any details - which can get a little rotten at times. If you want deep dives in the psychology of killers, no holding back storytelling of crimes, and stories of lesser known criminals from around the world this is the place for you. Welcome to Rotten Mango but don’t worry it all comes with a seasoning of comedy/sweetness.

I’ve been listening to the Rotten Mango podcast for a couple months now but let me tell you I am in LOVE! Stephanie’s voice is so soothing, when I find difficulty sleeping after a long day I just listen to her voice and i’m asleep within 5 minutes. The content she makes is amazing and I love her story telling skills. The suspense she builds during the episodes is immense and I honestly don’t think you could find anything better. I really love this podcast and I recommend it to everyone I know! I’m simply in LOVE with this podcast!

Why would anyone hate her, she’s like a literal angel she’s sweet, she’s kind, she’s bubbly and she’s cute.
She deserves to be protected at all cost, and she’s the only podcast I can listen to 🐰🩷

I like Stephanie and her weekly posts. She is so committed to producing her content. She needs a new editor. The jumping around and replaying of clips is unprofessional and makes the story difficult to follow.

I think there’s a such think as over information. I just finished listening to the latest episode and while I appreciate the team’s attention to detail, I sometimes ask myself “how relevant is this to the case? Can this information be summarized??”

I’ve been listening for years and she just gets better. I listened to some of her older episodes recently and you can really tell how much precise she’s gotten in her research and more professional in a way. She gets straight to the story and doesn’t go off topic ranting like other podcasts and goes into detail. She used to post twice a week I miss it so much but I’m grateful for her even still posting weekly <3

I love this podcast. It has so much research, so many stories that are not US centric. The host is so captivating and her cohost/audience member is a great reaction and never seems to annoy the listener. Love that the podcast also supports organizations and calls them out.

I love listening to the podcast. I’m so picky about the voices I listen to and this is probably the only podcast I can listen to without being annoyed by Stephanie’s voice. This podcast is very informative but also keeps things light while making sure the full depth of a case is understood. I would love to see an episode on actor Cole brings plenty though!!

What first drew me to this podcast was the fact that it covers worldwide crimes, unlike other podcasts I have listened to. She hires great translators and does tons of research for each episode. I love the way she explains it like a story! Just a trigger warning for those who are sensitive ⚠️‼️ Stephanie does cover some of the most horrendous and vile crimes I could ever imagine. Korea’s Nth Room and the Animal Nth Room are probably the scariest in my opinion. Nonetheless, OUTSTANDING. I also would like to say that I am glad she doesn’t shy away from hard topics because she is raising awareness for these types of crimes by doing so.

Some thoughts on episode 344

 –

I just listened to episode 344, and I feel so emotional and sad for Anthony. How a wrongful conviction took away his youth, his opportunities, his life, his family and more. I was at work, and my tear broke out a few times across the episode. But I have a problem about Stephanie’s standing. I can sense the whole way through that she believe that Alice Sebold holds a huge responsibility and she is the reflection of internalized racism and she doesn’t care about Anthony at all. I also believe that apology is not enough, because I was so upset that I texted my husband “ I knew that she apologized, but how can an apology exchange for over 40 years, with 16 years in jail?”. But I also don’t think we can understand and judge Alice, because ultimately she is the r*** victim. Stephanie is usually very good at putting out the idea about how people grieve in different ways and we shouldn’t judge by our the own standards. I want to say the same to Stephanie that people deal with their trauma in different ways. As someone who never experienced such a traumatic event, I don’t think I can understand how painful the life has become. Even if the victims who unfortunately experienced similar traumas may not cope the same way as Alice does. I think that The only one who can judge Alice is Anthony and Elizabeth. Alice cannot write and read is the proof that she has so much guilt in her, and I think that guilts should live with her forever. But I truly don’t believe that she is like what Stephanie said, “Alice doesn’t care about Anthony at all”. Please read the 2023 New Yorker article “the tortured bond of Alice Sebold and the man wrongfully convicted of her rape”

To the Rotten Mango Crew,
I truly love this podcast I race to my phone as soon as I get a notification for a new episode. There of course are some topic such as animal abuse along with abuse towards human that are hard to listen to sometimes but the amount of research and hard work that is put into this podcast truly gives me a reason to sit down a listen or even do my work while listening to this podcast. Keep up the hard work and have a great day!

I love Stephanie and her story telling ability. But it seems like every single podcast I’ve listened to in the past 6 months has been super glitchy. It’ll jump around or repeat itself or just cut off at the end. I hope they can get someone to fix these and do a better job of checking them before releasing them.

I couldn't get past the beginning of the just the description for episode 348. As an animal lover how can you even cover something so vile? Yes I know, they're "just animals" and what about all the humans killed in the most vile ways? Idk, I just can't bear to hear about ANY animal cruelty. Maybe I'm just weird. Still love your podcast. But man, I feel sick just imagining even listening to 348. I rescue cats and they are all innocent perfect babies. 😭😭😭

A friend shared this podcast w/me and I’m grateful. Comparing Stephanie’s coverage of true crime stories with other podcasts covering the same stories has solidified for me how thorough and detailed she is! Love this podcast and the excellent storytelling.
Stephanie, you really need to STOP using the term “CP” and “child p_______y”. PLEASE use child sex abuse materials or CSAM. Listen to the podcast Hunting Warhead for more information about this.

I can watch and then Listen to your content for ever. I know it’s what everyone says but you keep me from getting too low and truly want to have the type of people you have or to be your online friend. It’s weird to write but you and all of your content with the people in them are so different and so funny. The way you are with your friends and family is just something to wish and work hard for. If you ever read this and want another friend like Jane and Stephen who can help with whatever. I know that this is rly weird but I’m just always gonna try once. I don’t want to be a leach but just give my 31yo married father of one 6yo and a sad depressed and miserable ultra blessed man who doesn’t even like himself. I’d be happy to just have another person who would love to have a “normal life “ and not feel like everyone and everything is just gonna be bad or worse and trust is not something that is really understood or given to most anyone because if the past could be real then what is really stopping it all from happening again. So I just do what I have to do and then I’m at home with my family. And yet it’s like I’m not sure how to feel or what I have to do to make the misery that is not something to want neither is anxiety or phobia or fear that is what everyone says is irrational or delusional. . I don’t think that this would ever be read and I don’t think I’m ever going to be a part of something like yours. I truly hope you get all your dreams fulfilled and you have a wonderful life with MMB/fam. If you ever want to take a chance with me I will always be happy to try anything and no it’s not any different if I’m paid 2$ or less. It’s not about anything but to be…. Or try to be a better version of me and be happy for the first time. Sorry for being a weird little creep lol. But i couldn’t be more happy about whatever you are trying me for. Or a support person for me lol. Thank you for being the one person that helps my mental issues. I smile. I even laugh. I hope to be able to get more than my grandma or wife to be my best friend lol one day. But for the moment; I have no idea words for how much you have been with out knowing being one or the few who have ever been a help. Especially online. Oh and I am to anxious to fix the message length. Sorry lol.
