As a Cal Poly alum - I’d heard of the case but hearing Chris name the streets and dorms and apartment complexes made it so real and so unbelievably eerie.

Thank you

I live where this happened and I thought I knew everything there was to know. Boy, was I wrong! Mr. Lambert has done a thorough investigation and his reporting is top-notch. There is no drama, just facts and questions. You don't want to miss this. As to the reviewer who wrote it was biased because the title is "Their Own Backyard"... well, if you can't get the name of the podcast right you probably haven't even listened to it. I think this podcast belongs on APM's In The Dark. It's that good!

Wow! Wow! Wow!

I just started listening to this podcast this past weekend, but I'm HOOKED! I was the same age as Kristen when she disappeared and followed the case a little bit, but Chris's extra research into the people she saw, etc is fantastic!! Since there's only one episode a week, I had to fill some time with another true crime podcast and realized I'm a true crime Junkie!!! 😂

A Must Listen!!

This podcast is addicting, suspenseful, and I enjoy listening to Chris as he investigates the case. I was never aware of most of the details in the case and it’s great to have someone trying to gather all the information. Look forward to it every week!

Wow! So well written and very compelling evidence against Flores.

The more I listen to this podcast the more frustrated I get with the SLOPD, CalPoly Police and the Sheriff’s Department. The entire case was botched from the beginning and nobody in any position of authority will step up and do the right thing in this investigation. I believe there has been tampering of evidence as well as mishandled information and evidence. As a person born and raised in SLO, I am very disappointed in all persons involved in the initial investigation. Thank you for everyone involved in the making of this podcast, for all of the research and time that has been spent on this case and for keeping alive the memory of Kristin. Please bring her home!

Everyone needs to know this story!!!

This podcast so far has been a very well done podcast. The information gathered by the host has given me the ability to look at this case with fresh eyes. I’m a local to SLO and this case has always been in the background of our minds. Chris has done a phenomenal job at organizing how he releases information in these periscopes. I find myself frequently checking to see if he has released a new episode because I’m that hooked.

Intriguing podcast shedding new light on a local mystery that seemed forgotten by law enforcement. I hope someone with information comes forward & that the Smart family gets the answers they deserve.

SLO county handled this all wrong from the beginning what more proof was needed to convict the Flores family of this murder police let them get away with murder this was a family event all of the Flores family is guilty of murder

As a person that grew up in SLO and attended Cal Poly I always believed Paul Flores was to blame (most people do) but I think this podcast just rehashes small town gossip. If you read other post in this thread you can also see the bias. Someone said they hope that the Flores family lives in pain... which is a despicable thing to say. If the claims are false they have already lost the chance of a normal life. Since the name of this podcast is “Their Own Backyard” where the podcaster is stating that Kristin is/was buried in the Flores backyard this podcast is more of a condemnation rather than an investigation. He stated in the first episode he’s not a reporter or an investigator and that seems evident to me.

SO HOOKED

Chris Lambert has been so detailed and is laying events and facts out so methodically.....it’s shocking how badly this was handled by the authorities. The callousness of the Flores family is reprehensible. It breaks your heart all over again for the Smart family.

Love it

Fantastic podcast! So informative and researched! We are in the central coast and every now and then something new comes up about Kristen’s disappearance and then we never hear any follow up. What an embarrassment to the sheriff department and campus police.

Totally hooked!

Excellent production and story telling. I grew up in California and remember Kristin’s pretty face on the billboard. I’m surprised I haven’t heard her story more often in the many true crime podcasts. This one is top notch.

I first saw Kristin’s case on Unsolved Mysteries and I’ve read about from time to time since. This podcast intrigued me. I expected it to jump right into the story of her going missing — it didn’t. It went into who Kristin was and it is beautiful. The research on this is excellent and it is very well produced. I’m very impressed so far and I’m already hooked. I look forward to hearing where this goes.

This case rocked everyone's world who were living in San Luis Obispo county in the 1990s—and Chris does an incredible job filling us in on who Kristin was and the players involved. Reminiscent of the great true crime podcast Somebody Knows Something—Chris approaches the story full-heartedly as we journey alongiside him to find the truth. Great voice, well-written, you don't have to have a connection to the case to be totally consumed with Your Own Backyard.

Chris takes a respectful and honest look at the long-ago disappearance of a young college girl on the Central Coast. I grew up hearing bits and pieces of this story, and like Chris, could never find a thorough story explaining the event (even though I tried). I’m hopeful that this podcast helps the family and community find answers.

Paul Flores killed Kristin Smart. His mom n dad helped hide her body

Paul, Ruben and Susan Flores of Arroyo Grande, CA. will hopefully be charged soon in the death of Kristin Smart in 1996. There are other women in the Arroyo Grande, CA area who have came forward with horrific stories about their interactions with Paul Flores, luckily he was not able to kill any of them. Women on the central coast need to be careful if they run into Paul when he is in town visiting his parents and women in the San Pedro CA area especially need to be careful of him since that’s where he lives now. He likes to frequent bars, nightclubs and strip clubs. Do not accept a drink from Paul and definitely don’t walk outside with him or get into a vehicle with him.
