Was apprehensive to listen to the weight loss related episodes. As someone who’s recovered from eating disorders i’m hyperaware of diet culture in my daily life. I follow lots of dietitians and body positive influencers on social media, but it’s refreshing to have a podcast talk about this stuff in a practical way to the general public. It feels like things are shifting, or at least more people are knowledgeable about the issues we have with food and body image in our society. Thank you so much for bringing light to this!

Paying for financial advice - unbalanced at best, biased at its worst

Guest calls 285,000 FINRA registered advisers sleazy and underhanded, not held to any legal standard or recourse, in part because they can sell commission based products. Advises consumers to run, not walk, away from fee-based advisers and seek a fee-only adviser, to which the host drinks the cool-aid and laughs about needing to take a shower because even he mixed up the two, but there is no clear explanation of the difference beyond the opinion of a Wharton school economist insinuating that fee based advisors are vastly inferior and don’t act in their clients best interests. Yet the host uses the 1% to 1.5% fee on assets under management as appropriate for fee-only advisors but not for fee-based. The fee, which is based on your assets, is ok for fee-only advisers, but consumers should avoid “fee-based” advisers? Hypocrites. Expected more from NPR.
By the way, investigations, fines and regulatory actions assessed to “fee-only” RIAs has risen dramatically in recent years; and despite a much smaller pool of advisors, total fines have exceeded FINRA registered rep actions and fines.

Informative and Insightful. Touches on diet topics that relate to every day people.

Contradictory

While I enjoy most NPR podcasts and the way they present information I need to say the weight loss episodes are completely contradictory to the body positive episode as well as the work that Linda Bacon does. So for the bad information I can not recommend this podcast.

Nope! 20 seconds in and the valley girl “like, OMG cabbage soup” voice is an immediate no!

It’s easy for me to get lost and stop actively listen when too much information is thrown at me. This podcast is broken down, basically, into bullet points. Then at the end they do a quick recap of all the info they talked about. It’s amazing for my inattentive adhd brain! In addition to this, I love the topics they cover and find it all very related. Looking forward to more episodes.

Put out new material!

The episodes of all the life kits are pretty good, but it appears this organization spends 90% advertising or organizing the 10 or so episodes the put out once, and not in making new episodes. I’m rating on the material quality over quantity...
