This podcast is outstanding! I love the historical context they provide to current news and events. Informative, educational, and entertaining. This is what's missing from the current news cycle - context. I usually end up wanting more from each episode, a deeper dive. But I would probably say that no matter how long each episode is if the quality stays as good as it is. Truly an excellent podcast. More more more!

Really good!!

I stumbled across this podcast through an ad on another NPR podcast. I have to say, this podcast does NOT disappoint! I have been so impressed with the quality of the stories and the way the house we’ve together multiple stories in one topic. Each week is totally different from the next, but all of the stories are ones I would consider obscure, considering I’ve never heard most of them. This is a MUST if you love podcasts!

Probably the best podcast music I’ve heard. I’m regularly bobbing my head while listening which is surprising for a podcast. Also the stories are really interesting. I’d love to hear an episode about China’s transformation after Mao died one of these days!

It is just too short

My new favorite podcast!!!! Just binged the 1st 5 or 6 episodes. I am truly more informed and enlightened. Really entertaining, the production is spot on clean, the hosts are well matched and very likable.
So how about an episode on the historical relationships between Great Britain’s royalty and the Prime Minister and Parliament. I’ve always been curious about how that form of leadership came to be.
Love this podcast!!! Keep it up!

All topics are ones you know are important, but don’t understand fully, at least in my case. This podcast gives you the history of events that explain why the US is seen the way it is by other countries or makes you question why we see things the way we do.

Great topics — but learn how to interview

This is a really interesting podcast, and I’m going to continue to listen. My observation is that when they do interviews there is a propensity for the interviewer to respond to the answers being given by their guests with “oh” and “mmm” and “ah” which all tends to be very disruptive and really annoying. Thanks.

This podcast is filling in the gaps of my American History education, which only ever went up to WWII. I understand so much better now why things are the way they are, which informs how I want things to be today. I just wish the episodes were longer and more frequent!

I greatly appreciate the history and context to places like Iran, Korea and Russia. It’s stuff that’s left out or ignored in our history. But when I listened to “The Border” episode I felt frustrated afterwards. There’s so much that’s glossed over. For example, the reason President Obama is called Deporter in Chief is because he went after families and individuals who had zero connection to crime or gangs and he deported more immigrants than his two predecessors combined! For a better historical context on the US/México border I recommend Malcom Gladwell’s Revisionist History season 3 “General Chapman’s Last Stand”.

There's a lot in world history that isn't discussed or taught. This podcast sheds light on those unspoken moments as they directly relate to the world today. I think it's incredibly well done and I think the age and perspectives of the hosts help drive the point home that we all could learn A LOT about the world we live in and how we've gotten here. There are very few things in this world that all bad or all good. This show vividly illustrates how the good and bad run into one another, inadvertently creating an entirely new direction in human history.

Informative and interesting

This podcast combines credible expertise and smooth production. They incporporate scholarly historical perspectives, journalistic style, and first-hand experience to contextualize national and international headlines. The hosts position themselves as learners, rather than experts—relying on others who have done the research or experienced the events. Great starting point to spark curiosity!

These shows give an excellent foundation for thinking about today. Without the foundation that this show gives, we can’t full understand today’s policies. They are subjects that I have wondered about but haven’t gotten the chance to research or were not in a history class. Amazing show. Great hosts!! I want more!!!
