Learn to connect better with others in every area of your life. Immerse yourself in spirited conversations with people who know how hard it is, and yet how good it feels, to really connect with other people – whether it’s one person, an audience or a whole country. You'll know many of the people in these conversations – they are luminaries in our culture. Some you may not know. But what links them all is their powerful ability to relate and communicate. It's something we need now more than ever.
I love Alan Alda but some of his guests are speak in the tones of great authority but are actually clueless. Most recent case being the implications of changing one gene to double the lifespan. Climate change anyone?

Alan, I just finished the audiobook version of If I Understood You, Would I Have This Look on My Face? Awesome book. Glad I listened to it after becoming a fan of your podcast. Interesting that you named the podcast after your well used phase in your book; a helpful reminder of successful communication. Your book is a wonderful addition to other books I listened to (The Truth Detector & The Power of Now) naming a couple. Thank you for writing the book & hosting your interesting podcast. Take care & stay safe!

Thoroughly enjoyed this latest episode with the author of a book about neanderthals. I too have 2% in my genealogy. And as a docent with the fabulous Houston Museum of Natural Science where I primarily volunteer in the Paleontology Hall, I found it quite educational and useful. Appreciated her take about how Neanderthals had developed a higher level of civilization as well as her answers to Alan’s questions about what she would like to know – what did they do at night after hunting and gathering? I assume they did not sit around and watch Mash. :-)

Terrific discussion on a fascinating subject matter. I just ordered Ms. Levesque’s book and am very much looking forward to reading it. I loved the comparisons to the “theater” involved in astronomy. What a wonderful metaphor.
At the end of this episode, she mentions Andrew Chaikin’s “A Man On The Moon” as her template for storytelling and engaging an audience - particularly younger ones - to inspire them through the human drama of the endeavor. I couldn’t think of a better model, and if her book achieves even a little of what Chaikin did, she’ll have done an amazing job...and a service to our nation and humanity by getting younger folks hooked on Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics (STEAM).
As always, Mr. Alda, I love sitting in on these conversations and truly love your never-ending curiosity. Something to which we can all aspire. I know I do. Thank you!

Thanks for a consistently great series of conversations. During the one with the dream expert, I kept hoping you would reference the classic Dream episode on MASH! I’d love it if next season you could do separate episodes with each of your three fellow surviving MASH members rather than all together; it would allow each of them to speak more unencumbered than when you have had them on for a group chat. Keep up the great and illuminating work.

Beyond MASH that’s how I grew to love him as an actor.
I forgot how I originally heard of this podcast... big fan of him as an actor and his contribution to science. I’m a supporter- hope to get his voice on my phone Recording. How cool would that be?

C&V has been such a pleasure to receive these many years. Was it necessary to alienate half your audience with this one-sided political rant. This episode added no value to my life. I am more saddened to see C&V stray from its objective “learn to connect better with others”.

Reply To MGB74 “OLD” review of Alan Alda on 07/2020.
I wonder how old you are. I hope for your own sake and those in your circle, you will reconsider the affliction of your words. Every individual, regardless of age, ethnicity, mental, physical, social or economic status has value. Invest some time to educate yourself on the wisdom you can gain from experiences of the elderly (and the young). I feel a great compassion for any geriatric population, especially your own family, who are exposed to the toxicity and engagement of your thought process. For the sake of those around you, and your own future self, please take the time to explore the damage your words can cause the human heart and mind. Someday, you may be “old” and wise. Hopefully, you will be able to say you have grown in wisdom and you will educate those who may be telling you it is time to get lost because you are old. Go forth and do good!

I’ve been listening. There are some excellent, thoughtful episodes.
HOWEVER nothing epitomizes my career and life in physics so well as the moment when Kip Thorn admits that his bet with Steven Hawking resulted in a subscription to Playboy Magazine. I couldn’t be more disappointed that y’all included that. No.
Maybe it’s ok to show the reality of the relationship between these two physicists. I guess what I wish is that Allen or SOMEONE had inserted a comment or ANY check within the episode.

Alan Alda is a great host: puts his guest at ease and keeps the interview flowing. I love when you can just hear the moment someone forgets they’re being interviewed and starts just enjoying a conversation with Alan Alda.
