This is a really important podcast to listen to. The host is so selfless and hardworking, she's been releasing episodes all the way through her pregnancy to help families in need. I always hope for a better conclusion but that's the whole point.

Very informative podcast about cases that are not widely discussed in the media (if at all). I hate to say these stories are entertaining because I feel that's cold, but the stories draw in the listener and are presented in a (mostly) unbiased manner. Great work! Can't wait to hear more episodes!

I really enjoy this podcast. I consider this host to take the cases she presents on probably the most seriously out of all the true crime podcasters I listen to on iTunes. You can tell how much she cares by her careful word choices, selection of news/audio clips, and interactions with victim’s families and friends. It’s very refreshing to listen to a podcast where the people featured in the cases are treated so respectfully. I also love the attention she pays under-represented cases that might go overlooked. If I was looking for a loved one, I’d want her to present the case on her podcast.
The host has improved her sound quality, comfort in presentation, and pacing as the episodes keep going on. My feedback would be to keep working on relaxing as you present. Perhaps even consider trying an episode that is not pre-written word-by-word and instead follows a bullet point format so that you seem more natural. Either way, I love hearing the host grow into her podcast and truly own it.
Thanks for covering these important cases!

The podcast breaks three times to read three ads each time. And they're long ads, like, 30 seconds or more of copy. Listen to other sponsored podcasts—you'll hear how quickly other hosts deliver ads from the same sponsors.

This would be a better podcast if there was a different host. She is obviously just reading awkwardly and slow off a piece of paper. Sounds so un natural. I was interested in the case being covered, but had to turn off because the host's reading was too annoying to listen to.

Each episode we are shown just how much Marissa cares about the missing people she is highlighting. The interviews with family members and friends completely engulf you in the cases and she uses her platform to share her opinions openly. The Facebook discussion group is constantly updated with facts about the cases she's covered and her genuine connection with the loved ones of the missing makes it that much more real.

#82 - The Jaryd episode was terrible.......

I think I might read the book possibly....... Because based on this listen; I'd not listen to another Vanished. The hosts voice was horrible (she's about to give birth) and she was slurring her words. The father in the episode, uses "this is weird" and "this is interesting", so many times gahhhh it's so irritating! - and a good podcast editor would have edited at least 1/2 of them out. The irritating spooky music was in and out...... Then all of a sudden there was an ad!?!
Yeah, I would say, have the baby, get your strength back, and come back refreshed. I'll try again later but would not recommend this dreary and not professionally made podcast.

Vanished is one of the best missing persons shows IMO. The host has a very smooth and soothing voice, and she speaks about victims in a very respectful way. What I like most is that she makes an effort to include cases that don't get much attention--especially since a lot of true crime podcasts only do the well known cases in order to pull search results. She seems like she legitimately cares about the missing people and their families. The audio quality is great, so older reviews complaining about the first episodes are no longer relevant.

I really love podcasts, I subscribe to a new one at least once a month but this one drives me crazy... in a bad way. The narration is not great (which is putting it lightly) and while the stories themselves can be interesting she tends to put in way too much speculation instead of actually doing research, the audio clips usually go on way too long to the point where I zone out and when I finally remember that I'm listening to something I've lost track of what's going on, she grazes over the finer details, and there's a lot of "I feel" statements. Tell us the facts, bring in more interviews with people that were actually there instead of editorializing, and please please please... work on not sounding so monotone. You sound bored, therefore I am bored.

I love this podcast. Not only is it incredibly suspenseful and fantastic storytelling, but the host has an amazing respect for the victims and families. She provides well researched facts, case audio such as 911 calls and press briefings, family interviews, and a short but well informed discussion of theories. A plus is that she is very active on the discussion group on Facebook so you feel like you actually know her and can interact with her so easily about the cases. Thanks for the great work Marissa! Not to mention- the patreon swag is great!

This podcast started off low budget and choppy (aka lots of ifs, ands, buts and uhmmms) but I have a big, patient heart and could tell this amazing lady had talent for "story telling".... I have blown through every episode in 2 weeks! Her voice is captivating and I love that she gives the victims, families, friends and law enforcement a chance to speak and tell their sides, findings and stories.

I REALLY wanted to love this podcast, and I think it has great potential, but the host really needs to loosen up. It's almost painful to listen to. I've given it numerous chances, and I just can't get into it. It's hard to keep me interested in listening, by having no tone, zero emotion, and stand still questions. You can't tell when she's asking us a question, or making a statement. It's like one big run on sentence. It's almost like that one kid in class who got asked to read, and can't really read. I'm not trying to be mean, but I'm an avid podcast listener, and I'm shocked so many people have given this numerous stars.
When she's done with the podcast, there isn't really any closure. It just ends. Sometimes, she doesn't even I've updates, or say "So this is what we know so far."

Worth trying.

Meh. I really appreciate that the content is on informing the public of missing persons. However, it's hard to listen to. Or binge anyway. The host is very monotone and it's obvious she's reading. She's also relying heavily on 911 calls and media coverage to fill space. Really hope this podcast continues to grow because it's important work.

I do really like the material and it is usually pretty interesting but I do think that the host needs to be less stiff and also not play audio from relatives talking the entire pod cast. Some interviews are good and snippets are good but not a woman talking about every detail of her past year. More interjecting and summarizing please.

I really enjoy the premise of this podcast--bringing to light missing people who haven't been focused on in news cycles. Unfortunately, sometimes I can't listen to an entire episode.
There are 3 things about this podcast that make it subpar.
1) The rambling interviews with family members. I appreciate interviews with people close to the missing person, but I can't listen to an hour worth of interviews with no overview of the case. I wish the host would give us information about the case and then throw some interviews in there, not make the entire podcast an interview with no direction.
2) The attacks on the police. If you're a LEO supporter, then I would stick clear of this podcast. In almost every episode the police don't do anything and screw up so many things according to the family and the host, but the police involved don't actually get to explain all that they've done. Probably because most of these are open investigations so they aren't allowed to talk. I'm not saying that LEO hasn't botched some investigations, but it's easier to sit back and judge past actions than to actually make the best decisions in the moment. I do wish the podcast would refrain from attacking the police and focus only on the missing person and evidence.
3) Audio quality. A good deal of the time I can't understand what the interviewee is saying. The Amos Mortier episodes were the worst and I couldn't even finish them because of the sound. This goes back to my problem with making interviews your entire episode rather than interspersed throughout.

I don't know why I've waited so long to post a review since I've been listening since episode 1. But I'm glad I did. The host, Marissa, has gotten better & better in sound quality & comfort in her presentation with each episode. I like that she covers the "average joe" missing person cases too instead of retelling high profile headline cases that have already gotten media coverage. She allows the family members to tell their story in their own words. She did a fantastic job on covering my uncle's case in episode 57.

This is a tremendous podcast about unsolved missing persons cases. She does a great job narrating and interviewing those involved with the case, as well as great investigative work. This isn't just a rehash of a google search, she actually tracks down both law enforcement and witnesses in the cases to interview, and goes over possible theories of what happened. Give it a try, you won't regret it.

Interesting stories and good research.
However, please stop constantly 'advising' listeners thay can find the information on Google or youtube is stating the obvious. We are listening via internet downloads, we know how the internet works. We know about Google and youtube. If you want, just make mention at the end that links and documents can be located on your social media sites.
Also statements 'for my non-US listeners' - just state the tempurates in fahrenheit and celsius, again, explaining why you're doing it is stating the obvious. It's disruptive, unnecessary and off-putting.
Also, advsing listeners to turn off the podcast if children are in the car is ridiculous - it's a true crime podcast! No true crime podcast should ever be played in the car with young children in it. Leave out the warning, it goes without saying.
Assume your listeners know how to use the internet and realize the US is the only country using fahrenheit, miles and grand jury's. Assume they know how to parent. Assume they are a basic level of intelligence.
Stating the obvious disrupts the story flow and is condenscending to listeners - as if the narrator is explaining something to a 5-year-old child.
With those fixes, this could be an amazing podcast.
Trust us, we know.

I used to listen to this podcast religiously but the host went off in a direction that I can no longer stand to follow. She constantly does phone interviews with "guests" who mostly tend to be the victim's family members or friends. While I like this in order to get to know the victim a little better I find that the guests just tend to ramble and constantly repeat themselves. The stories all tend to be one-sided and there is a lot of bashing of law enforcement. The sound quality and editing are very poor as well.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, first .... I will start off by saying.
Secondly, my name is Joshua Wright, the Brother of Noah Brandon Davis who was featured in three of these episodes for this show.
I could not have prayed any harder for such a wonderful person, to have entered my life, Marissa cares so much about the people, what she is doing, and WHO she talks with as well! (Not to mention, all commentaries left in these reviews!)
She is driven, and beyond helpful to this search, every search, and the people she deals with, never leave her mind or thoughts after the fact either! She has stayed in with me, on my Brothers case, and helped me more than both she or I, would care to publicly say.
This show is a God send.
And the fan base, are of course... unbelievable. Its like this show is the outlet, one in my position could only dream of getting. They are so loyal, and believe in these causes so much, that they are the best search team I have ever noticed, or seen personally... (IMO)
Thank you all, for everything, and of course, I am not done yet... Noahs case is still getting leads to this very day!
We will find him soon, I know... and I cant thank you all enough for continuing to follow the case.
My late Mother, was absolutely thrilled about, and in love with this show as well, and with what it does. I am SO PROUD, that she got to be a part of it also.

This podcast needs a lot of work. Specifically, the host needs a ton of work, and there are some major issues that I have with her. She is so unbelievably stiff when she speaks, making it very difficult to enjoy this podcast. She is so very obviously reading from a script, and it just sounds so forced. This host really needs to loosen up--A LOT! Like I said, she makes it very hard to listen because I'm constantly getting distracted by her monotonous reading voice. Please just take notes and go with the flow--stop writing a word-for-word script, as it's really undermining the quality of this podcast. The stories are very interesting. But her storytelling greatly takes the interesting factor out of it. She really needs to lighten up and speak more dynamically. If she does this, this podcast will be a whole lot better. I will keep listening for now since I've caught up on my favorite true crime podcasts and I need something else to listen to in between their new episodes. BUT if/when something better comes along, I'll unsubscribe and stop listening unless she changes. Please take my advice--I can't be the first to think this, and I can guarantee that I definitely won't be the last. Try to be more like Mike Boudet or the TCG guys... Or even Sarah Koenig. The two stars are for the interesting stories she "covers." I will update my review if/when the host improves.

I have just started to get into Podcasts after listening to Serial. This one is really well thought out, to the point, and I like that there is one person narrating so there is not any back and forth banter between hosts (which is okay sometimes, but a lot of the other Podcasts do it too much). There is diversity in the type of missing persons cases that are covered and I hope it keeps going that way! I am really glad that these kinds of shows and Podcasts are becoming more popular because perhaps they may somehow help to bring closure on some of these cases. Thank you and keep up the good work, you have found a loyal listener in me!

Pretty good! Definitely worth downloading.

I have to say, it's refreshing to listen to some new content on a True Crime pod. The stories are well researched and interesting. Still some sound and volume issues, but I know all that just comes with time so not a big deal. Only thing I'd love to hear is if she tried an episode talking free style off bullet points instead of word for word from a script. At times its like listening to someone just reading you a newspaper article, which gets a bit monotonous.

Love this podcast!

Missing people tend to quickly fade from media coverage. This podcast is doing a great service of drawing attention to these mysteries.
The quality of the hosting is not as good in early episodes, but it has gotten better and better as she makes more episodes. In all episodes, you can feel the host's compassion and care for the missing person.
Also has a Facebook discussion group for further discussion and information, which is great.

If you are into true crime and missing person cases, then this is great podcast to add to your list. The host brings missing person cases that have been forgotten and gives you all the info available on them. She includes links to articles, videos, pictures of the missing person, audio clips of news coverage or actual 911 calls which add to the drama. Didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I do, because essential there is no closure, but quite the contrary. I always look forward to the next episode.

Stick with it- it's gets better and better

I must admit, I wasn't sold on this podcast at first. Sounding like the host just read the script. But the episodes kept getting better and I realized that it might just be the way she spoke and the fact that there is no co-host, so it's hard to sound "conversational" in this format. Overall, it's a fact filled, interesting review of missing persons cases. I hope the host continues to put out new episodes as often as she does! It really helps to keep me listening and interested.

I really enjoy this podcast. I am a fan of several other mystery based podcasts but as someone who has done a lot of reading on a variety of disappearances, I often find other hosts make mistakes in the details that I can only assume comes from shoddy research. This is by far the best researched podcast I have found and the host backs up her stories with many primary sources, i.e. interviews with the key players, original news reports, etc. I have heard some have been critical of what they call the hosts monotone. I totally disagree. I appreciate that she speaks in a measured voice, rather than the often shrill voices I find in other podcasts when the hosts get excited or try to emphasis something.

Very Interesting

Excellent start for a new podcast. Well, researched. Doesn't push opinions on the listeners. Let's you make up your own mind. A help to families, on cases that the police may moved on to other cases. Nice to see that the podcast is not just focussing on the Nancy Grace type of story.

Very good podcast, gets better every week!

The content is great. I think the host needs to get a little more comfortable speaking and work more on engaging and hosting and rely less on reading pre-written content. The presentation is so stiffI struggle to maintain engagement. I’d love to see these kinks ironed out. Best of luck!

I really enjoy this podcast about missing people. The news clips really add to the narrative. The host is not a professional radio person and I have seen some harsh criticism that she is robotic, but I think it's just because she is reading from a script to ensure she covers all the pertinent facts. This show doesn't go into conspiracies; it just reports the facts which I enjoy. I hope she continues to make more episodes.

This is a great podcast that will leave you both sad and shocked that all these cases go unsolved. She has a nice clear and easy to understand voice that doesn't speak to slow or too fast.

I really appreciate the host’s casual but respectful tone. She’s already covered cases that I haven’t heard anywhere else and that’s refreshing. It’s like having a conversation with a well informed friend rather than some of the A.M. Talk Show style rants that other podcasts give over to.

This podcast is about real life, nail-biting, edge of your seat kind of stuff. If you are into real life crime, this is definitely for you. The host includes actually 911 calls, witness testimony and engaging commentary. You find yourself guessing as to what happened or who is responsible. Aside from the drama and details of the cases, the podcast has an educational component. The author provides a lot of useful historical information and common sense advice to keep her listeners from becoming a victim of these type of crimes.
