Janet has been my parenting mentor for years through her blog, and I love the added bonus of being able to hear her soothing voice and expert advice on the podcast! I love the benefits of the RIE approach to my own parenting, and how Janet brings me a deeper understanding of what respectful parenting looks like in my different situations.

I am notoriously bad with self-help books, including parenting books. Including Janet's! I get so much out of them, but quickly forget. Audiobooks are great, but too much information means I retain less.
This podcast has been a lifesaver for me, and I am CONSTANTLY recommending it to people. It's short, 15 minutes max, and in each episode, Janet addresses a listener question. So, it's all LIFE BASED. I feel like I am not alone in dealing with some of this trickier stuff, and Janet's style is calming and judgement free. Even her voice just chills me out.
I am so grateful for this podcast, and have been catching up on applicable episodes, but am likely to just listen to them all. They are that good.

Love it want more!

No parenting book, tip, podcast, philosophy, etc... has come close to helping me as much as this podcast has. I had never heard of RIE before this and since discovering it, I have become more calm, confident, and close with my children. Applying this to my relationship with my kids has taken my average stress level from a 10 to a 1! It really has helped that much!

Great tips for for parents of toddlers!

I learned so much about the RIE approach to parenting in Janet's books. The episodes in this podcast have demonstrated how to apply the RIE principles to very specific situations. I appreciate the practical, actionable nature of the podcast, delivered in short episodes through Janet's calm, soothing voice.

I have watched a few of your podcasts, and I love them!!! I agree completely with everything you say. I am a totally blind person that plans on adopting a children in the future hopefully, and also plans on working at a daycare in the really near feature. I also volunteer at my church. I am wondering, if you have any advice for me. It is just too awesome that you take the time to do this.

Janet Lansbury, I love your podcast! Thank you! I am not a parent but am a teacher and am passionate about being the best adult I can be with children. I was first introduced to your books by a friend with a two year old. She asked me to read your “No Bad Kids” to help me understand how she is raising her son: with respect! I have fallen in love and can’t get enough of your books and podcasts. Thank you.

Thank you thank you for this podcast. Like others, it's much easier for me to listen in than it is to pick up a book these days. These episodes save my sanity, give me hope and perspective, and act as a friend to me while I'm taking care of my two children under 3 years old. Janet, you've been so helpful for our family. I hope you continue this wonderful work.

This is such a helpful podcast that covers a wide variety of issues that come up for both my baby and preschooler as well as some of the issues that came up once the baby was born. The RIE approach has been super helpful to have in my parenting tool box. I find Janet's closing remarks so encouraging and so sincere and truly believe we can do this and it helps me to remain unruffled.

This podcaster is not methodical in her advice. She responds to a thoughtful question by a parent with what "I think" and her experiences with her kids, repeating the same advice over and over again, and laughing a bit to herself about what the parent believes the child is thinking. Better to read Brazelton's book on raising children which is accessible and based in science.

Excellent! Learned so much more than just from her books ...

I think this podcast contains such vital information for raising healthy children — i’m not sure it’s always easy information to hear at times and maybe some people don’t like the delivery — but the information is so freeing and can really transform your relationship with your child and i think the world of parenting and our children are blessed that Janet is delivering this message — it is SOOO needed.

I love this podcast and this "style" of parenting. It's not just a great way to deal with children, but with yourself and everyone else.
Saw a couple of comments about a condescending tone. I don't find that, though I did notice a kind of subtle laughter vocal tic that I think is meant to convey a sense of "this is surprising or counterintuitive" but could be interpreted by the uncharitable as "duh". For what it's worth :)

Great advice I'm thankful for Janet putting it out there.

I just discovered this podcast recently, and find it so refreshing and helpful. I've already listened to nearly all of them in the past 2 days, and I am very hopeful that the will be lots more to come. Janet gives parents the encouragement that our kids are "complimenting" our parenting in their own way, when they are comfortable enough in our love and acceptance to show us their negative emotions. They are getting real with us, and we don't need to distract them from expressing their real selves and emotions to us. I love the reminders that we are having a relationship with our children, and are the first and most influential models of what it is like to be in relationships. I value the reminders that I can be the "bigger" person when my daughter is melting down - and it is so easy to hear that reminder coming from Janet, because she acknowledges that acceptance might not be my (or anyone's) knee-jerk response to a screaming toddler, but I'm big and I can do it for my daughter and for our relationship. And I don't just like Janet's message, I also like her down-to-earth delivery. A very pleasant companion in my ears, as I do my podcast-friendly chores. I've already recommended this podcast to two friends, and we are exploring starting a mini play group to practice responding to our children in ways we learn on this podcast. In fact, it would be really helpful if one episode could provide coaching on how a to do a playgroup to practice - things parents should do before playgroup to prepare, and what should go on during. I can't convey how delighted I am to find this podcast, and excited to practice interacting with my daughter in this more authentic, supportive way.

I have an 18 month old who I consider a pretty easy going kid and we usually don’t have any big issues, but every now and then she does something that just really throws me for a loop and I don’t know how to handle it. I find this podcast so calming and reassuring in dealing with a huge variety of common toddler issues. I want to let you know how helpful your podcasts are to me as an early childhood educator. My primary work takes place in a preschool setting, and I find the RIE philosophy very much in line with my goals and and expectations as a teacher of young children. Additionally, I love using your podcasts as a resource for the parent education aspect of my work. Very often when a child is struggling with issues at school (impulsivity, an exaggerated need for control, ongoing difficulty with separation...) I wonder how these things are playing out at home. Unsurprisingly, the challenges at school can often be linked to parental struggles at home around confidence with limit setting, accepting uncomfortable feelings, and remaining respectful and connected through stressful situations. I have found that your podcasts provide a great way for parents to gain a sense of mastery over the tone and feel of how “unruffled” really sounds. They also provide access to a healthy perspective on what is age appropriate behavior for preschoolers, as well as what are reasonable expectations for parents to have of themselves. Rather than handing parents a stack of books to read, which can be daunting for already strained families, your podcasts provide a highly digestable way to take on a new perspective. Plus they are addictive - can’t listen to just one! Thank you for your important work.

I enjoy Janet’s blog and use it occasionally, but I just discovered the podcast and love it. It’s much easier for me to hear her suggestions and advice as a podcast so I can listen on a walk or while multi-tasking (which as a parent, I am ALWAYS doing). I work full time and I have a 2 year old. When I get any little break like walking the dog or going on a run, the first thing I do is listen to these podcasts. I love that they are so relatable. The books are great but the podcast does a wonderful job of really drilling the message home with specific relatable examples, and also demonstrate the tone to use with children, not just the words. I also really enjoy that there are new podcasts very often so when I finally do get some time, I can listen to several in a row. Also it’s kind of fun/interesting to think about what your advice would be for each situation before Janet gives hers. I don’t agree with some of the other comments that she sounds condescending. She is giving advice in an authoritative but sympathetic tone. Thank you so much Janet!

I'm so thrilled to find the podcast. I find these ideas useful for my toddler but also my older kids too. Learning to just simply acknowledge the feelings and set simple limits without trying to change their feelings and getting Ruffled. I struggle more the older the kids get not to take it personally so going back to basics helps a lot. Please keep the podcast weekly! I really would like my husband o read more of your articles bc the books are good but a lot to process in one go. The articles are where I go for really practical ideas but for him podcasts are way more useful. I love the podcasts too. I've seen a lot of comments in the Facebook page about needing to get both parents online. This is such a practical way to make this work. Thanks for all the extra work!!!!

Hi Janet,
Yes, you should continue. This is a very good resource for parents to learn what attitude and tone of voice to use when "educaring" their children. I think sometimes the focus is too much on the children's emotional world though. I think if you can acknowledge parents' emotional strains, it might help parents to feel less guilt and more support to go on. Thanks!

Janet, you asked for feedback in your latest episode, so here is my feedback. I love reading your articles and books, but there is something so wonderful about hearing you talk through a common concern or problem, giving examples, that my husband and I find so much more helpful than simply reading your advice. We listen to your podcast in the car on our way to and from work, and pause frequently to discuss. We have four boys between us, 11 and 9 (his), 6 (mine), and 18 months (ours). Your advice frequently applies to all four of them in different ways, as they all have different emotional needs. Your constant reminders to appropriately set our expectations are particularly helpful for us, as we often fall into the trap of having the same expectations for all of them. We, too, love Siblings Without Rivalry and keep it on hand. We are constantly practicing this parenting thing, and listening to your podcast helps us so much. Thank you!!

Every Week Please!!

Hi Janet - I’m responding to your request for feedback on your last podcast. I’ve read both of your books, get your emails, attempt to follow your blog… BUT… I have three children three years old and under (3 year old twins and a 1 year old). Reading time is a luxury that I have to work HARD to find time for. However, I can almost always listen to a child-friendly podcast. Please keep this up. I need it. It’s really helping us in a way your other content cannot.

Thank you!

Janet, I’m really enjoying the weekly podcast as a new format for you to share your wisdom. Please keep it up! Hearing you speak adds another dimension that the blog format isn’t able to offer.

So so valuable

Janet, these podcasts are such a wonderful compliment to your writings. It is invaluable to hear the tone of voice to truly grasp what "unruffled" means in practice. Also, as a dyslexic, listening to this information makes it so much more accessible to me, and I'm really able to integrate it on a new level. Please do keep it up as often as you are able!

Janet, thank you for taking the time to make this podcast! I love the RIE approach to parenting and try to emulate it. I've read one of your books, but with two toddlers at home, it is difficult for me to dig further into your content via your website, FB page, and blog. But I'm an avid podcast listener, and I have found such wisdom in your weekly shows -- and it fits naturally into my life! Please keep it coming. :)
I do agree with a couple of reviewers who said that sometimes you can be hard on the parents. Clearly, these parents come to you to ask for help -- they understand that what they are doing isn't working, and they probably have already felt humbled by not being able to figure out the issue on their own. So some extra sensitivity to that would help create a safe place for ALL parents to learn and grow together in raising our kids well -- 'cause that's the goal, after all. :)
Thanks again!

So grateful for Janet Lansbury and her excellent podcast! I found Janet while desperately Googling “How to entertain your baby”… found her blog post entitled, “How to Stop Entertaining Your Baby” and read that instead. Life changer. I’ve since read both of her books and much of the blog’s archived posts. What I love most about this podcast is hearing Janet’s tone of voice as she shares her wisdom about speaking respectfully to babies and toddlers. Very helpful.
Janet, Thank you for all that you do. The length of your podcasts is just right for busy parents, and the format of answering reader questions is excellent. Look forward to it every week.

I've been a Montessori teacher for over a decade. I have a lot of experience with children. I just became a parent myself last year, and discovered RIE. Janet Lansbury's work is amazing, and is shifting a lot of my thinking about how I approach children. I've read her book, blog, and Facebook post, but I love the podcast. Getting to hear her talk about her approach, hear her tone, etc is invaluable.

This is a great podcast.
Janet Lansbury comes across as supportive and relatable. I truly want to hear what she has to say. I find the podcast format to be very approachable especially as I have been able to get others to listen though I would never have been able to get them to read a book. I love and look forward to the positive reinforcement of the weekly podcasts and the reminder that "we can do this." I feel that I parent much more mindfully and calmly thanks to this podcast.

Great insight, revelatory each and every week.

In a recent episode, Janet asked for feedback regarding whether she should continue creating this podcast, and I quite literally clutched at my chest with the thought of this podcast going away. Each week is a treat filled with slap your head moments; information that, in a split second, changes the way you think about interacting with your children and more often then not is a huge relief to find that you were either doing the right thing all along or that the minor correction you need to make is going to be mutually beneficial for you and your child.
In short, I love it, and I hope Janet continues for a long time.

Loving it!

I have really enjoyed listening to your podcast!- it is very moving to listen to your reactions and feelings that can be felt through your voice in real time. I had a difficult day today setting limits with my daughter without feeling guilty for the pain she experienced as a result of my decision- not even sure if I believed in my own limit as she began to scream-so I sought out support for parenting. I am relieved so have found your podcast- I felt your confidence and conviction with gentle awareness of your children- I feel reinvigorated and ready to begin afresh tomorrow. This is my first child and I am open to learning A LOT! cause as they say - my daughter did not come with a handbook- and I feel like the scenarios your choose are perfect for me! Very Insightful!

Great!

This podcast is very helpful! I definitely would encourage you to keep it up on a weekly basis. I find it easy to squeeze in as its short and usually just one topic at a time- so simple to take in and think about. Nice to hear a voice actually demonstrating how these things would sound exactly in practice as well! Keep it up!

So helpful

Thank you for doing the podcast! I love how frequently the podcast touches on a question I had that same week. I hope they will continue weekly. Being reminded regularly what 'unruffled' parenting looks and sounds like helps keep my parenting style consistent and reminds me that it doesn't need to be complicated. Plus, my husband doesn't have time to read, but he does listen to these with me, and I've already noticed a change for the better in how he relates to our kids.

Keep them coming!

Dear Janet, this is my first review. I was compelled to do one because of your request for feedback and because I listen to your podcast religiously each week. I found RIE about a year ago and have read/ listened to your books. The podcast is the perfect weekly parenting recalibration for me. As a parent of three young kids (ages 6, 3, and 10 months), I need the weekly reminders of and insight into how to be a more supportive and relationship oriented parent. I've listened to your episode on defiance literally five times and my children and I are better for it. I've introduced friends to RIE through your podcast and they've told me that it has changed their relationship with their children. So please know that you are doing serious good through the podcast, which I can listen to while doing dishes or laundry. I sincerely hope that you will continue to share your wisdom through your weekly podcast. Best, Sarah

Please continue

Thank you for the addition of these podcasts to your blog and books. I find it incredibly helpful to hear you talk through inquiries you have received and your responses. I first listened to your two books and now I am starting to listen to your podcasts. I do not feel any of your feedback comes across as condescending. I think I got to “know” your perspective, approach and personal story through your books, so that context moves me far away from experiencing your tone as condescending. Learning about RIE through your voice has transformed my experience as a mother of two toddlers (and any day we will be welcoming a third child). I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to weave in your approach into my family’s life in general and before the addition of another child. Thank you. Please continue the weekly podcasts.

Absolutely fabulous!

In your latest podcast you asked for feedback. I love the podcasts and I get so excited when I get the alert that a new one has been released. I listen to them on my very long commute and they've helped me feel productive when all I can do is sit in traffic. Please keep releasing a new one weekly!
My only advice regarding content is maybe to add some info about timeline- for instance for the possessiveness topic, when will that be expected to stop? Knowing there are probably very long windows for this emotional/neurobiological development. Or, what age can you reason with a child or give more explanation?
Anyway thanks making us all feel that we can do this! :)

Yes pls, keep going with the podcasts!

Thank you Janet for such a wonderful podcast. This podcast helps keep me sane! ;) It is my weekly reminder that yes, I can do this, here's how, and I am not alone. I have read parenting books and they help for awhile, but I'll get to the point where I need to read them again for a refresher. But as a busy parent these podcasts are so much easier to fit into my day than a book. I listen while I'm in the car or doing chores. I also love the podcast parenting format because it gives me a chance to HEAR what these interactions actually sound like in real life, which sticks with me so much better than just reading what to do. My only wish is that the podcast could be DAILY, because unruffled parenting is a daily commitment and it would be great to have a short daily boost to help keep me going. The podcasts are geared towards toddlers, but the techniques have also helped my interactions with my 7 and 10 year old, and even other adults! Thanks Janet!!

Really appreciate this

Hi there, I am writing in response to your “call to feedback” from your last podcast. I have really benefited from your podcasts. Thank you! I would agree with the last review you received that your tone can often sound condescending and not very compassionate to parents. I realized though, that in your last podcast you used this tone with a couple that you actually were applauding, so I think that’s just your style. It might be something to look at… because I don’t think it’s intentional or even personal to parents. ANYWAY, I guess that was more a response to the last comment I read here. As for the content of the podcast, I am really grateful to have it as a resource. I find “talking” advice a lot more easily digestible in my life now where I don’t always have time to read a book or an article (or even pay attention to a video)… but I can certainly LISTEN while I do dishes or what not. I salute your work and I would love to hear more. Thank you for doing this!

The best!

Janet’s wisdom is excellent, I knew that from her books and blog already. And now to be able to hear her tone of voice, and detailed response to common toddler problems is amazing. I’m so so so glad she’s doing podcasts now. They’re great to have my husband listen to on his way to work (since he won’t read the books). Thank you Janet!!

So excited that Janet is doing a podcast. I have been following her blog for 4 years but have difficulty knowing exactly how to initiate some of the skills. It is so helpful to hear how she implements the strategies. I believed I was being firm but I can see now that my tone showed otherwise. Thank you Janet for all that you do!!
