I think that it was a well made film by a great director, that had good actors to go along with it. I don't know why it got so many one star reviews. Totally not worth that. Lowest would be three and a half stars. One of the great things about the movie was, it's lead role was a female. I'm a guy but, it's nice to see a woman lead.

I don't quite understand the bad reviews of Haywire. I have seen it a few times and just purchased it on iTunes. I believe most people these days expect all action movies to be fast moving, CGI filled, and with little or no depth. This movie is a throwback for me, reminding me of some of my favorite action films like Ronin, Leon the Professional, and the Bourne Identity. The plot is simple and involves deception, betrayal, and revenge. Gina Carano does an excellent job as a straight faced contractor seeking revenge. Long story short, if you are looking for an explosion filled, mainstream movie, this is not for you. If you want to give a smart action movie a chance, check this out.

It's a mature action film. The filmmakers should give that away. Love the fight scenes. There is a realism to them that might put some people off that are more used to a cinematic energy, but I thought it made them much more effective. Gina Carano isn't where she might want to be as an actress but she's charasmtic and holds the screen. The story is about as simple as it comes but the film seems much more interested in the action and the moments between actors. The film achieves exactly what it wants so the one star reviews seem a bit crazy to me, even if it's not your sort of thing thing.

2 stars for being watchable, but the acting was flat. Action sequences were weird, like ok "we are going to have some action now" kinda of weird. How the director got all these highly talented people to be so bland, like they were just reading a script, is an incredible waste of their abilities. Movie used transitions from present time, to back in time to explain present time, but device was not put to good effect, i.e. this director did not pull that off well, movie could have just started and stayed in chronological order. And of course, it gets rave reviews from pseudo intellectual movie critics.

This is not a spy "thriller". Its more like taking a lot of cliche and predictable things used in so many other films before it, and implementing them badly, with forced, bad acting. "OMG im being setup!" "OMG my colleague is trying to kill me" "OMG final last action sequence where they try to come and get me but i hold them all off and manage to kill them all but one escapes and i finally track him down and kill him".

Don't waste your time or money if you want an spy thriller or action movie.

If you feel that your one accomplishment of the day was to convert oxygen into carbon monoxide, this is the movie for you. Soderbergh gives this movie a nice rhythm to get you on your toes. A female action hero?! Yes, give me more of that. I would love to see more of Gina Carano.

Okay, to be honest, I was surprised that the lead actress in this film could actually "act" because I wasn't expecting a whole lot.

I knew she had the fighting skills because of her background, but I was expecting a fairly, um "wooden" performance. Well, I was pretty amazed.

If GENA DAVIS doesn't want to do a LONG KISS GOODNIGHT sequel, than this actress should really be considered for it.

I hope to see them both appear in more films.

Quite possibly the worst movie I have ever seen in my life. Honestly, if it were free I wouldn't watch it again. Horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE! How it has that kind of rotten tomato score I have no idea. It is really bad. Awful.

I'm gonna keep this short and sweet, I went to see this movie in theaters because "critics" gave it such a good rating. I am starting to realize that I shouldn't listen to the critics. Movies they rate bad or kinda bad ends up being good and movies such as this one are just terrible. Save your money this movie was weak from the beginning, horrible acting, terrible script just not worth your money or time. If you want to see a woman kicking butt buy this movie and show it to your girlfriend and I guarantee there will be some butt kicking!!!

I loved the action. Has quality actors in it, they worked well with the movie. Doesn't let you down. Gina Carano has an outstanding performance. A great action flick The action flows from start to end and I loved the ending.

It took me awhile to watch this movie because of all the bad press it got.

This movie was visceral. The fight scenes were totally believable. They didn't let her win a fight with a couple of punches, she had to work for it. Her moves seemed to me to be what a woman would need to do to beat a male opponent. I liked the quiet, there wasn't a lot of music to distract you from what was going on. Dialog was kept to a minimum. That may have been because she's not an actress per se, but it also lent a weight to the scenes.

I really enjoyed this movie. I don't why the critics had such a problem with it but they need to chill out and just enjoy it.

Is it one of the best movies ever made? Hell no. But I still think it's a great little action movie. Grade: B+

Some audiences may have been detracted by the linear storyline or drab revenge character motivation, however collectively stylistic elements (camera angles, dialogue, lighting & locations) felt slightly different than typical. Chiefly your initial gravitation toward the protagonist ultimately gauges probability of a positive or negative holistic reception. Personally being drawn in by conspiracy, espionage and federally funded private contracting themes found Haywire somewhat enjoyable. Netflix subscribers please consider viewing this title via online streaming before making purchase decisions.

Great story, good acting, impressive realistic fight scenes. Reminds me of the "Usual Suspects". A sleeper of a film, glad we found it. We'll be recommending it to any one that appreciates a sophisticated action flick.

If you are looking for a deep theme movie with a "John Le Carre" plot, then this movie will likely only get one or two stars. However, if you like spy/action movies and a good plot, this is actually a movie worth watching. The female main character is being set up by her boss, a private contractor to the CIA, and while trying to stay alive, she tries to catch the guy who set her up. Good and realistic action scenes mix with a decent spy plot and create a very entertaining movie, told partially in flashbacks and partially as it happens. If you like action movies with a spy plot, this movie will give you close to two hours of good entertainment without getting boring.

amazing cast of supporting actors but it got me thinking… Desperate times call for desperate measures and I seriously believe that McGregor, Douglas, Banderas and Fassbender really needed some easy cash… Hated the movie.

The fight/action scenes come with corny music that one would expect in porn movies, the storyline is just horrendous and really the Carano, hot as she may be, should stick to non acting roles… let her fight all she wants but don't let her act ppl please.

Reading the negative reviews of this movie makes it clear that the action adventure movie market has no room for films that are realistic and where understanding the plot takes an IQ above the average childs shoe size.

This is a solid movie with adult level character development and action scenes that dont look like they are out of a cartoon and full of Computer generated crap. Wish there was a sequel on the way but as I said above making an intelligent realistic action film with interesting characters is probably no longer a financially viable proposition.

I was pleasantly suprised with Haywire. Reviews about the pace of the movie made me hesitate with my purchace, but upon watching it, I quickly realised that the movie takes good care with it's character development. I found myself unabashedly on our protagonist's side.

While providing us with a thrilling ride in real-time, the movie also takes us behind the mythology of our characters so that we can get a good understanding of present motives. I suspect that what's generating the bulk of the poor reviews is partially in the subcontous, a la film score. There is not a full symphony to draw out the emotion and fill in the lulls that most action thrillers endulge us with. That said, Haywire still stands firmly on it's own.

A gritty new noir film that does a good job of telling a story that, let's face it, has been told before. Haywire tells the story from a fresh and decent angle though, and I came away from watching the film confident in my purchace from iTunes.

I agree with the average review but for different reasons. I mean, we are talking about only five stars here. The other two stars I usually reserve for film score, deeper emotional connection to charaters, and oscar winning material.

Buy this movie for a good way to pass the time watching a decent, stomp out the door thriller that will keep you guessing. Oh, and don't watch it in pieces. iPad users especially, set aside some time to watch this film from start to finish, or you will find yourself asking what the heck is going on when you pick back up.

Poor acting by the main actress who also became an unconvincing marshall artist… why is she walking for her life instead of running? Add to that a plot with so many loose ends that it had to have been in the middle of editing when a deadline came

So what if she isn't an Oscar winning actress. She can fight, literally fight and that's what's needed in action flicks. Not just some woman who just learned choreographed fight scenes. Good plot. All of the supporting actors are Oscar winning and are great actors so the only thing she needed to do was kick butt, which she did perfectly.

Bad acting; no story.

From now on I am going to start stealing all my films. I was lazy and bought this one from I tunes and what a waste! I though since there was some decent actors involved it would be decent. But the director really tried way to hard to be artistic and creative. The music and the "scene selection" was crap. Honestly, I think he was trying to be like a Guy Ritchie but failed miserably!!

My wife and I loved Gina's strength and presence- she rules the movie with confidence and awesome fight moves- it's a great, FUN and exciting movie. I compare it with Liam Neeson's Taken- that we loved too.

film was shot to look gritty and real,it was deliberate on purpose for a reason,the script moves just fine if you ask me its a story of betrayal and counter betrayal,lol these things take time when your trying to tell a story, to be honest i was surprised it was such a good film i didn't expect that much from it.

It demonstrates excellent acting and great directing. I loved the plot and the intense fighting scenes. Wow this was so good and I was really impressed.

I watch it once, and I've considered a second viewing to see if it was actually better than my initial impression. But, my initial impression has so far kept me from watching it again.

I didn't really like how the movie was told, the narrative style (sequencing). The story is interesting, but often hard to follow.

I liked all the action scenes in the movie. It had a unique feel that is very different than what you might be expecting, especially if you are expecting a Bourne Identity type of movie (only with a girl).

Anyways. Wasn't totally satisfied with the movie, but I still kind of liked it…. dug I gave it three stars. The movie may grow on me if I ever sit down to watch it again.

Now, the movie is well made. But just because it's well made doesn't mean I will enjoy it a lot. Or, in contrast, just because a movie is not well made, doesn't meant that I won't enjoy it a lot. There are scenes that actually are very good but either the acting (or lack thereof) or the filming of said scene is awful. The beach scene was shot from different angles and none of them were good.

I forced myself to finish this movie because I paid for it. It was not an easy task. Lead character is extremely unbelievable.

This movie was everything I expected it to be and MORE!!

I'm not really sure what happened to me in the last 92 minutes of my life, but I would love to have it back (with the $4.99 rental charge). I wouldn't watch this movie if iTunes paid me $4.99 to watch it! No dialogue, no plot, no consistent flow, I don't know how semi-good actors (Tatum, Douglas, Banderas) were involved with this garbage. The only thing good about this movie was the actress's looks, but that is NOT enough to devote an hour and a half of your life to a movie that was clearly critiqued wrong by a lot of people. Do yourself a favor and read the average viewers reviews instead of the rotten tomato critics. On a scale of 1-10 this movie was a (-)10. I'm done now.

The fight scenes were obviously choreographed and rehearsed and the casting of the female lead was a bad choice. The entire movie had a contrived feeling.

If you're bored and have nothing else to watch this movie will pass the time. However, it's hard to follow the story line at times and slow to start. Like one of the critics said, it's a "Bourne" wannabe movie with a female star. Had potential, but seemed kind of "low budget".

I was expecting it to be flat, no story, MMA exploitation movie. It actually was just a good action movie. It had a good plot line and Gina Carano did a decent job acting (much better than I was expecting). Rent it for a basic action spy thriller with an actual plot held together with a solid supporting cast.

I heartily disagree with many of the negative reviews written for this movie. I love Soderbergh's non-linear story telling, makes the story line very engaging for the viewer. Script was crisp, well-acted. An interesting story, well done. I rented the movie from iTunes, but now I think I will purchase. This is one I'd like to watch again! Strong recommendation.

The story was also pretty tight. But the ending left me feeling like this was a little too paper weight for my pleasure.

I really enjoyed this film because it was unique in two ways: 1) That you normally don't see a female take a punch in a film. Obviously the lead in the movie is strong enough to defend herself and get fight the baddies, but there's still a double-standard in films (like life) that women are dainty flowers and not to be engaged. 2) Usually during fights or chase scenes, there's music going on the background which is irritating and distracting. Sodenbergh kept that to a real minimum and its appreciated.. made the film feel more genuine and less cartoonish. Definitely worth the rental price.

Anybody that likes action packed espionage thrillers with bad a** female leads will love this movie. The script and cinematography is crisp and gripping. The lead female role is brilliantly executed by Gina Corano. She is seriously hot and totally believable as an a** kicking free lance operative who pummels her way to the truth after being betrayed by her employer. I watched this despite the negative ratings because I like the cast and the director and not only was I pleasantly surprised but liked it so much I bought a copy. Definitely give this one a shot and you won't be disappointed.

I was surprised to read so many negative reviews about the film here. I guess since Gina Carano is a MMA star, most people were expecting loud blow stuff up Michael Bay type of simple action film. This one had a more complicated Ronin-Jason Bourne flavor which I really liked. I was also surprised to see quite a few big names in the business show up on this film. I suppose Steven Soderbergh's reputation and clout attracted such luminaries. I thought Gina's acting chop was not bad at all considering this is her first major motion picture.

I saw all the negative reviews here but decided to rent anyway. Soderberg is a fantastic director after all...how could this movie possibly be so awful? Professional critics seemed to enjoy it judging by the 80% Tomato rating. Something just didn't seem right. And sure enough, it wasn't even close to awful, in fact good enough to watch a second time!

As an example, one of the things I truly enjoyed about this film was the realistic staging of the fight scenes. No dramatic, swelling action music. Or over-blown sound effects. Just raw, visceral violence...just as it might be if you were standing in the room watching two people fight to the death. This was probably a key motivator to casting a lead actress who is an actual fighter! Also I don't agree at all with the incessant complaining about her acting...it was above-average at worst. I honestly didn't find anything poor or unbelievable about her performance at any point. And I was primed to be overly critical based on the reviews here!

I think the reason why so many really hate this film is that it's an art house-style action movie. You actually have to pay attention! It challenges you to keep up at points. There are some twists and turns, the narrative is told out of order...it's nothing like a Michael Bay blockbuster (thankfully).

I genuinely enjoyed this film...was enthralled and entertained until the very last frame. If you're not a typically brain-dead American action moviegoer, give this one a shot. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Wow. There are a lot of not-so-intelligent people out there. What this movie is NOT: A Michael Bay, Paul Greengrass, Tony Scott, shaky camera in your face cheese-fest that so many action films have become. It is not "Salt," with an anorexic 100 lb female lead who looks pretty but couldn't beat up a child, let alone a grown man. What this film IS: There are no wires, there is no polish, there are no post effected lens flares or "action stars" with their 1 month of "intense" training, to convince the world that they can fight. You have a female lead who is a very raw actor, and it shows at times, using her physicality to bring viewers something fresh from the perspective of the fight, not the spectacle. This girl looks like she could handle herself against the men she beats the snot out of. You have the creativity of Soderberg, a groovy soundtrack, and retro color palette, all adding to a unique experience in the genre. I am not surprised that fans of "action movies" would find this film to be a little slow and languid. It is not a mindless film, and I found it to be refreshing to see the Director taking a chance on an inexperienced actor and letting her physicality shine. It is a good film, and my only complaint would be that I'd like to see a couple more set pieces.

If you are the type of person that wants to see explosions, car crashes, blood, bombs, screaming, buildings blowing up and the main actor of the movie pulling off incredible death defying stunts even when doing simple thing like drinking coffee then this movie is NOT for you. However, if you like an intricate plot and detective movies then you will like this movie. I have no idea why this movie has such low ratings. I sat through the entire movie completely entertained trying to keep up with the plot. You have to pay attention to the dialogue to do that and not many people nowadays can sit through dialogue if it isn't followed by something exploding. I have no complaints. Fight scenes were sick and brutal.

In contrast to many reviewers, I liked this movie. Although the storyline IS typical (let's face it - they've all been done before) it is still very exciting to watch. The actors are great, and the way that the director has unfolded the story is unusual. It also feels realistic and messy - no typical "choreographed" fight scenes.

Best movie in a very long time. Hard to believe Gina is a rookie actress, she is a star. Coming soon to Fast and Furious 6 and the sequel to this. The soundtrack is great. Haywire is a fun escape. The acting in the first scene had me wondering what I got myself into but stick with it. There are a few people who couldn't hang because "there wasn't enough action" or the "action wasn't fast enough." Someone wrote "why set her up" just "shoot her" and be done with it!? REALLY. It's a movie! Why don't they shoot James Bond right away? Because the movie would be over.

Now, I'll be honest. I was really looking forward to seeing "Haywire" when it first came out. The trailers made it look like a fun, action-packed thrill ride with stylish set pieces, immersive action sequences and a great all-star cast. But sadly, that wasn't the case. Instead, what I got was an awful slapdash film with a threadbare script, no comprehensible storyline, extremely phoned-in acting and some of the worst dialogue I've ever heard in my life. Nearly all the fighting in this flick is so rapidly edited to the point where you can't clearly see any of the action happening on screen, making it extremely unexciting to watch. What's even more disappointing is the fact that none of the characters are the least interesting. The whole time, Gina Carano just acts with a blank stare and utters her lines in a drearily monotone voice. I know she's an MMA fighter and not a professional actress, so I'll give her the benefit of the doubt, but as for the rest of the cast, there's simply no excuse. From Michael Fassbender to Ewan McGregor to Bill Paxton, pretty much every actor in this film gives a boring, serious performance with absolutely zero emotion or interest in what they're doing. As for the screenplay, don't even get me started. Practically every single scene without action is a chore to sit through. In fact, most of the movie consists of nothing but extended shots of Carano looking around and trying to figure out where to go and what to do next. I swear, I've never seen an action flick so bland, so empty and so excruciatingly unenjoyable as "Haywire". Besides the eye-popping cinematography, this is a complete waste of film that I feel so ashamed to have spent my money on. Please, just do yourself a favor and don't purchase this dreck. You'll sincerely regret it if you do.

This is not a typical action movie. Actually feels like the action sequences and the story is just the background and the real fun is in the dialogues and acting. I keep rewinding some of the conversations and scenes and i am sure Banderas, Douglas and the director had great fun chiseling these masterpieces. Subtle and dark humor is abundant. Really enjoyed it!

This film was fresh and interesting. This film has great actors and atmosphere, something most action films lack these days. In addition this film doesn't try too hard, everything was done as if it were real, no cheesy computer graphics. It's hard to pin down but this film has a realistic quality that makes it stand out. Even the phones and the computer programs, where its easy to be cheesy wasn't done, they were all legit which made the movie believable.

But most of all I think what stood out the most were the fight scenes, they were awesome! I didn't know the main actors history until I watched the behind the scenes, her talent shines in this film. Don't pass this one by.

This is not a standard action adventure. It's more realistic. The plotting is complicated. You have to pay attention.

Gina is totally believable as a serious covert operative. Her fighting is intense and the moves are fascinating to watch.

Its great to find a female lead who is simply and truly tough, and doesn't have to rely on magic or a sexpot costume.

Revising my review based on the bad reviews. They are bizarre. So out there you wonder what planet these guys are from. Planet of mousey men who are scared by a real action woman hero? Something scares them about this movie. To call the acting bad or the writing poor is just foolish. Little boys scared by a real woman sounds like.

This film stands out and on its own. This the kick that the "action" genre needs. Suspense, gritty realism, and the most believable action heroine we've ever seen. Not to mention the glorious reunification of Holmes and Soderbergh, who together have redefined the perfect score/cinematographic formula. Well done, and please, more like this.

Gina is one beautiful woman. This was a well done movie that went out of its way not to be unbelievible. You know jumping off roof tops and catching an edge with only a finger and surviving. Everything done in the movie is exciting but not over the top. This movie was refreshing, it doesnt leave you at the end thinnking "wow" instead it leaves you thinking your intelligence wasnt just insulted and you had a good time through the whole thing. I hope we see more of this woman.

I just saw it and I recommend it for everyone who like action movie. I love it and really love Gina Carano

Acting was horrible. But what would you expect, she's a MMA fighter not an actress. The plot could have been written by my six year old. The action was bland and lifeless. You keep waiting for it to ramp up to some epic sequence, but it just fizzles out time and time again. People say that it was meant to be realistic, but it's not. It just makes it feel like some low budget internet parody video that some college kids did over a weekend. FYSA, this is my first ever review. It was that bad.

Haywire is quite simply, the worst "mainstream" movie I have seen in years. Within the first 10 minutes, I was ready to walk out of the theater due to the horrible script and shoddy acting from everyone involved. The "script", if there was one, seemed penned by a fifth-grader. The "action" scenes are probably the most boring set pieces I have seen in quite some time. I realize that they are intended to look and feel real, and in that respect, they do. However, real fighting does not translate well onto screen. I can not stand the quick edited action scenes that are popular in film these days, where you can't see the action. I realize they were trying to move away from that here, but at least make the action on screen keep the audience's attention. Pair that, along with overly long shots of Carano looking around, trying to figure out what to do next, and you have a completely stale film. Do I really need to see her take every clumsy step when descending a building? Soderbergh thinks I do, and it just proves once again what a horrible director he is. Now, I will say that I have enjoyed a couple of his films. But two or three remotely decent outings from a director who has done so much explains a lot. The majority of his films are overrated, much like his inflamed ego. Luckily, the bomb this movie was seemed to knock that ego down a few notches...but probably not for long.

Throughout my viewing of this utter piece of garbage, all I could think is: Why, Ewan? Why did you do this? You are better than this. But, it does seem that he is really phoning in his performance here. You can tell he doesn't care, he's there to get paid. And, I hope he and the rest of the cast got paid a hefty amount to tarnish their impressive portfolios by appearing in this.

You may think I am being overly critical. And, I very well may be. But the fact is, I have seen many many films, and I know a good product when I see it. I know what good acting looks like, what a good action scene entails, and what good set design and lighting looks like. This film had none of those. I admit, Carano is quite attractive, which is where most of the high reviews here are stating. But, that does not constitute good acting, or a good film. Now, under a different and better director, she may be able to deliver a decent performance, but that remains to be seen.

All I can say is this: Haywire is the first movie I have ever wrote an online review of, after watching in the theater. The minute I came home, I sat down and had to vent my frustrations. Never had I loathed a film for taking away my hard-earned money and wasted my precious time, more than I did with Haywire. I want to spare anyone who is contemplating watching this film the frustration I have had in it's wake. Do not support this film. If you do, he will make other films of equal or lesser value, and unleash it on the unwitting public. Please...save us from that wrath. Do not watch it.

I LOVE action movies. They are fast paced, and have lots of action. This is the slowest "action" film I've ever seen and the action scenes were ok, but there were too few and too far spread out. Not at all what I expected from trailers. Don't waste your money. Honestly, first time I've ever given one star rating and said don't waste your money. TERRIBLE!!!

THis is a very bad movie. The preview looks good, the film is all different. Very slow, terrible acting, and the picture style is weird (but not even artistic). Just wasted $5, could not watch more than 20 minutes.

Although none of the customer reviews say who Gina Carano is or was?... I recgonized her in the movie trailer... She played a Gladiator on a TV show called "Gladiators" and her name was "Crush"... She was then and remains now very HOT...

the only movie i actually felt like i waisted my money at the theater seeing this... it was awful and seemed B rated...

Saw the ad on TV and was like, who is that woman? Major cast, major director and at the helm someone I've never even seen before. I was excited. This isn't the way America does movies. But we should. Someone saw this woman and loved her to the point that she lands at the center of a wide-release film. But America sure taught them a lesson. People didn't go. I did and I was glad I did. I'm guessing this will be a huge rental as a lot of people passed it over in theaters knowing full-well this would be a good evening's romp. OK, maybe it's not really a five-star flick, but it's solid and fun.

This isn't a typical action movie. Everyone says, "Oh it's just The Bourne Identity with a woman lead". But it's not. It's realistic, or it tries to be, and it's slow paced compared to most other action film. The movie doesn't contain a lot of dialogue, and lots of fighting and chase scenes. But really it's a must-see movie that shouldn't be passed up for a random action flick. It's worth renting on iTunes.
