I loved the whole beginning and middle, but I don't like how the virus was cured without more deaths or something

Disappointing. While the cast is star-studded, the story goes nowhere. Okay, there's a deadly disease that spreads rapidly....and...? If you want a much better version of this story, what Outbreak (1995).

It was worth watching. Watch it with an open mind, it doesn't seem to be regular horror movie so don't think it is. It gives us a possibility of (what if ) so it should be scary/

This is an awesome movie. Loved all the suspense and thrill. It just brought me to the edge of my seat! Would recommend to anyone!

Asleep 45 min into it because it's slow and repetitive!

Severely underrated.

The only reason why I think this movie got popular again was because of the Ebola outbreak and how the Americans are afraid.

Contagion delivers pretty much in documentary style one possible scenario for an outbreak.

In terms of suspense and action it doesn't even get close to Outbreak.

Some real documentation would be more educational and maybe even more thrilling,

We both loved this movie. Not mooshi or corny like the Dustin Hoffman movie. Very much parallel to the Ebola success this week (first wee of August, 2014).

A disturbing film because anything is possible including a worldwide epidemic. However, for the most part, the acting was just okay, the plot dragged in spots,and it was a bit too predictable. I did enjoy Matt Damon's and Kate Winslet's performances.

This is not entertainment it is six separate short reports on how the flu spreads, with some politics thrown in. No central character. Boring. If you want to fall asleep watch this and you will be snoring within 30 minutes.

Great cast and movie!

After Kate Winslet dies, which is early on, there is nothing to keep one's interest. It's terribly slow and boring. Rarely saw a slower movie.

The best part was that they killed off Gwyneth Paltrow early in the movie.

This movie wasn't good for me bc i basically figured out the whole plot before we ever saw the virus. This movie made me realize this virus could happen for real but what i did not get is why the darn CDC people could not find out sooner this was a rabies virus mixed in with something else the pigs had >_> y'all can give this movie a try but believe me this movie isn't as good as the trailer shows you

This movie wasn't for me. It wasn't scary at all and I seriously believe I wasted my time watching it.

I though it was good cause all of that can happen in real life. The ending was pretty good because it showed us how the virus started. My sister said it was stupid but I thought it was interesting and if you really wanna see this movie..either see it by yourself or with a friend in a quiet place because if your not paying attention then you'll get lost and not know what is happening...

Very good acting and believable cast. Very plausible story and can't help but think this could be real someday. For sure, I think about why I touched my face so many times and how many other things I touch that could be something contagious.

Ok, do we ever get tired of 'zombie' movies? I guess I have.

A number of thrillers have been made over the years dealing with mutant viruses of some sort. To me, they all seem a bit sterile. Sure, there's screaming and writhing and stuff, but it just seems that all the movies of this genre lean too heavily on cheap tricks.

I'd watch it again, but there are a good three dozen other movies I'd rather see again before this one.

This is a horror movie if there ever was one, mostly because its plot is completely plausible. Well written, well acted, expertly executed. This film will leave you feeling uneasy at least, it left this MD feeling downright frightened.

Extremely slow and boring!

The only reason it is even getting 1 star is for the couple of touching moments of humanity in the storyline.

I saw this movie when it came out. It was terrible, acting was bad, scenes were really choppy, and I just couldnt stand to watch it. I got so bored with it I just decided to leave because it was so bad. Waste of money.

I felt like I was watching a badly written, hastily directed, and poorly acted daytime drama. Even if it were a made for TV movie, it was still horribly stilted and never once did it draw me into to being emotionally engaged.

because now im that way! this movie's amazing. can't believe how something so simple could cause such a major problem, but im never going to forget to wash my hands ever again! carrying a bottle of hand sanitizer with me everywhere i go from now on! :)

This is the best thriller films I have ever seen. It's not really all that scary, unless you are afraid of deadly viruses. It was better than I thought it would be.

This could have been a great movie. Well acted and a neat subject, but with no excitement. If you want a solid portrayal of mass psychology and societal collapse in the face of an epidemic, this is for you. If you want an entertaining movie, look elsewhere. It's 95% boring dialogue with suspense music to mask the fact that it's boring as hell. Also, one thing I can't get over is the fact that one of the characters is stuck in her house in a mostly abandoned city for years. But she's constantly texting her boyfriend on her iPhone. Even though an abandoned city would have no cell coverage and no power....

Besides the fact that it was incredibly well acted, and it had a great story, one of my favorite aspects of this film was the psychology portrayed in the film. Especially scenes dealing with mob/mass psychology. I thought it was very realistic when one person started running, everyone started running, even though a rational person would see how there couldn't be any food left. The stars in this movie for me were Laurence Fishburne and Gwyneth Paltrow- they were excellent

Not a good one for you. I loved the relational perspective. The performances were excellent.

There was no climax and it was more like a documentary than a movie

This movie is so good because you know that it could become reality. Great acting, great script. Leaves you wanting more.

This movie is better than most. BUT.. the ending is just awful. There is absolutely no conclusion to this movie. The movie is 95% dialogue with maybe 5 minutes of suspense. A myriad of facts regarding some virus are laid out in a lecture format for pretty much the first half of the movie. I see no reason to buy this movie. rent it .. maybe?

I thought it was a good movie. Shows you just what is possible and that humans aren't the true masters of this world. Also shows how much luck is involved in beating unknown viruses. The ending will show you just how a random event can start an epidemic that can wipe out a large swath of the world. I thought the movie was a realistic representation of what would happen if this were to occur in today's modern world, the good and bad.

Whole heartedly recommend a rent, not a buy though (for me anyway)

Good movie. Better than I expected.

I did not go see this in the theatre because it seemed like it was going to be like all the other movies with the same type of plot. The concept is similar but not the same and definitely better. I found it to be dramatic, intense and it really makes you think. It's a movie worth watching.

I thought it would be an apocalypse type of movie, but that's not what they were going for. They were trying to show what the world would probably be like if such a virus did come into existence.

But I'm a fan of zombies, and so I'm taking a star off because the virus didn't make any! :D

A gripper it is not but the underlying feeling of desperation and sadness that is captured is a reality. Moving from tiny steps to a rush that is truely real in the small climax of the end of a disaster is true to life.

The build up was great but the ending was terrible. Completely fell flat and ruined the movie.

Didn't really like this movie… leaves you with not much hope, always waiting for things to get better in the story line, but they never do.

The movie was good and I enjoyed it but I was still expecting more. Maybe some more intensity, more creepy-ness, better understanding of who the characters were. The last 30 minutes of the movie seemed rushed to me. I would've liked it to be a bit longer.

The trailer is misleading... This is no Outbreak. Really bad directing, could have been so much better. The characters lacked depth, it didn't succeed to bring a sense of panic or urgency, or even a thrill. Kinda boring, actually. Not believable, despite the cast and story potential, and way too predicable. Save your time and money, and watch Outbreak again.

I want my money back this "movie" sucked it ended in the middle of the story and just showed us how the sickness happened and btw people have lived a long time! If this was real the contagion thing would have happened a looonnnnng time ago bottom line is, don't get it

Worst movie in the history of god

While I wasn't expecting Outbreak 2, I wish the film had been a little more grounded in 1-2 characters vs. the wide range that is portrayed in the film. Literally some characters are in only 2-3 scenes in the movie and really didn't seem to add much. Its a very interesting story, basically a modern take on the 1918 spanish flu pandemic, and doesn't seem so Michael Bay action heroish as outbreak did. I did find however that during the last quarter of the movie I was moving the slider on the movie forward because I was getting a bit bored. I didn't really care too much how it ended up after you find out what happens. I guess I didn't have any attachment to any of the characters because you only get to gloss over them from time to time. While I am glad I didn't spend 12 bucks for this at the movieplex, its worth a rent here.

There was no dramatic arc to this movie. Characters came and went, without much effect. The vaccine discovery wasn't even thrilling.

definately not what i was expecting!!

Even with some interesting pathology, I think Contagion could have done better. I love apocalyptic cinematography. Seriously. I'm weird that way. The doctors don't know why. So 26 million people die in this movie. On screen, you see 20 or so minor or major characters die and a few extras run around coughing. Depicted with just a handful of sets with a handful of actors this movie was not at all what I expected.

If you've seen one you've seen them all, they all take the same story .. a lost loved one some magical escape or cure and never a true ending. What was odd and as many other commenters noted was the severe lack of acting yet full of well known actors … not sure if that was supposed to be the movie's "style" … my style is not to watch it again because that is how I roll. :)

The scariest part of this movie was the unnecessarily gross scalp removal autopsy that revealed no information at all. The rest wasn't scary because it was totally implausible. Everyone knows that in an outbreak, the sick should wear facemasks to prevent getting others sick (as they do in civilized Hong Kong), and they should certainly not cough in people's faces as everyone in this movie managed to do. There were a dozen plot lines, only one of which had a conclusion. Heartthrobs like Jude Law should not play sketchy bloggers. The kidnapping? Yeah, right. And why didn't anyone try to rescue her from plain sight? And where did she run off to at the end? And how did the vaccine work if it was mutating so quickly? There were so many scientific and policy holes in this film, though it claimed to consult with the CDC in the making. If that's the case, I prefer to be in Hong Kong during an outbreak. A bit ranty, but I was very disappointed at how wrong the critics got this movie.

Bad Hollywood schlock for what could have been an incredible story. Embarassing.

I could not stay awake watching this movie, and I wasn't even tired. I wish had my money back, I can sleep any time without having to pay for it.

As with all Soderbergh movies, this is grossly overrated. The whole plot is a rip-off and done so much better before.

Contagion is a structural mess that doesn't amount to much. Some award worthy performances can't save this movie from being brainless and devoid of authentic suspense or twists.

I only watched it because of the cast..other then that it's ok, it is what it says contagion. You can guess whats it about people dying and government taking care of themselves and the rich first, people going crazy killing and destroying.

I think it was just boring. The action of L. Fishborne at the end of the movie is so false! Nobody would act this way ! I believe there was at least one producer that did not like the lack of humanity of this movie so they had to put in this cheesy scene with that boy...

I guess one must be very cool (and rich) to produce a movie without any climax in it. The mass of super dupa fency and totally overpaid actors did not help the movie to achieve any thrill that makes me want to see it again. They should not have put so much money on the actors but in a good storywriter!!!

Ex-deadman has to be brain dead to give bad review

This was not Outbreak the sequel. The reality is at any given moment something we can't see with our eyes and have no control over can suddenly show up and take our somewhat well ordered society and thrust us into chaos. Watch this movie if you want to see how.

And the next time someone goes into a coughing fit behind you in a crowded theater or airplane see if this doesn't come to mind again!

Someone should've stopped me from renting this. Yet another virus gone amock on the planet movie. I found myself playing with my iPhone while the movie was playing. Not very interesting and I am not sure why there are so many 5 star ratings on the movie. It was boring.

A really good movie with great acting all around. Makes you do a lot of wondering about how prepared we are for an epidemic.

This movie is actually quite scary considering how realistic it is. The movie presents a very possible and not unlikely scenario in which a deadly virus spreads across the globe killing millions of innocent people while governments are powerless to stop it. It's very compelling and told with such bluntness that it makes you wonder what would happen to you and your family if something like this actually happened. The characters are a little shallow so it's hard to really care for them and it's not the best acting I've seen from these big name stars. In the end, the story drives everything and it's definitely worthwhile watching.

Oh, by the way, those of you expecting a brainless, horror movie - this one is not for you. I'm so annoyed that people are comparing this movie to the Exorcist and Destination 5. This movie is not even in the same category! It'll make you think, though, so maybe it'd be a good change for you ;-)

Yes cars don't blow up! People don't shoot and kill everyone, but it's interesting and scary how we as a society could or may react to a such a virus. Well done movie overall!

After all the promotion and reviews, i thought there was going to be more to the story. It was a realistic movie, and for that I would have given four stars. Unfortunately, my expectations were too high which led to a greater letdown.

Wow - all the players in this movie…has to be good right? Wrong! This has all the makings of a great movie…plot, players, music…but they just don't pull it off…sad, truly sad…it could have been a contender…left me wanting so much more. Just the other day, I told someone, Matt Damon sure knows how to pick his roles in movies - but this is one he should have passed on.

With the cast and realistic story, there was such an opportunity here to show even more of the dark reality of such a situation. As it is, the story focuses too narrowly on too few, and even for those characters we only see their shallower reactions.

I saw this movie in theaters, and it was amazing! Very accurate, and great acting (Matt Damon!) While I was in the theater, the woman next to me was coughing and, thanks to the movie, made me cringe every time she spewed her spit in my direction. Later, after the movie, I ran to the bathroom and proceeded to wash my hands for two minutes-an example of how this movie hits close to home during flu season. A perfect combination of an example of a thrilling sci-fi movie, and what the world would become without some form of government. You'll love this movie (and the nearest bottle of Purell) after you watch this.

I dont like cool explosions or fast paced movies. I love a movie that gives you something to think about and a little suspense. This movie could have been so much better. It's like they cast "A" list actors and forgot about making a great movie. It was A for aweful. They just got lazy in this movie all around.

I saw this movie in theaters thinking that it would be alright with Matt Damon, and that the trailer didn't look too bad. But the movie was just boring. I fell asleep several times during the movie, and there wasn't anything that really made you want to keep watching it. Wish I would have just given the $10 for the ticket to charity instead.

I Saw this movie the first week it came out. It's not the thriller they Try to make it out to be. And the story line of the movie is very twisted. The middle is the beginning the end is the middle and the beginning is the end. I honestly think its a horrible movie.

I walked into the theater expecting a unique, smart, creepy movie. Although the entire idea is really cool, It was just SO VERY lacking. The acting was so awful. There was no climax. The product placement took so much away from it. The realization at the end wasn't intense at all. The characters seemed to be 100% emotionless, as if they were reading off a script. Many scenes that were supposed to be serious were laughable. For instance, the scene where Jude Law's character is tricked in the park, and eavesdroppers chase him. It was pathetic how the scene was built, and that is how i felt about many others. I found myself hoping certain characters would die because of the horrendous acting they had. And when the film ended, it felt simply cut off, with no real resolution.

If you was wondering if you should buy this movie...I would say rent it first. It was an extremely dull movie in my eyes, and I would not watch it again.

"Contagion" is definately a wake up call for America.

This is a really great movie with a very thought-provoking plot. It really changes how you look and feel about certain things. I still touch my face less (you'll understand after you watch it) than i did 2 months ago when i saw it! If you want a VERY realistic-feeling movie with an apocalyptic plot than this is definitely it. I feel as though this movie portrays what would happen if such an event took place with perfect accuracy!

Perhaps seeing The Exorcist as a child ruined me, but it was so slow. By the time it got going, I figured it out. Sadly, I wasn't trying to.

When I went to watch this at the cinema I expected to see "Outbreak 2.0". What I saw was something better. A tight plot, a great story, and the fear factor that can exist in the real world. Not only is it a "What If?" film, it's a "Has Happened And Could Happen Again" film. Kept me on the edge of my seat...and that doesn't happen often. Not a great movie, but definately worth the money I spent.

If you walk into "Contagion" expecting a jump-out-of-your-seat horror movie, then you'll probably be dissapointed. This film is, in my honest opinion, an accurate depiction of what the world would be like after it was hit by a killer virus.

It would take up nearly my entire review to give a synopsis of this movie, given that the movie has multiple plotlines; much like Steven Soderbergh's "Traffic". A simple way to put it is that when Gwyneth Paltrow returns to her home from a buisness trip to Hong Kong, she dies of an unknown virus. What happens next is a worldwide epidemic where millions of people die just by touching something or someone, and you see through the eyes of multiple unique people how the world changes as a result.

The techincal aspects of this film are just marvelous. The cinematography itself manages to create incredible dramitic tension, and is very smooth; a huge relief from all the action movies with very fast, super shaky camera work where you can't really see whats going on. In here, you see everything, and it's fantastic. Cliff Martinez gives us a very creepy, atmospheric score that blends in seamlessly with the drama.

I can understand why a lot of people wouldn't enjoy this, given that the trailer itself made this out to be an edge of your seat, scary thriller; because let's face it, people just want to see, action pakced, illogical movies (and rapping penguins). Now believe me, I love action movies as much as the next guy, but I honestly wish that we had more films like this; films that you have to think about in order to enjoy, instead of just going "WOW" after a huge explosion.

Overall, I can see why people would prefer something like "Transformers" or "Twilight" over "Contagion". This movie is a love letter to guys like me, who are not looking for JUST cool explosions or car chases, but TRUE, honest to God filmaking. I just loved this movie to death. (Pun not intended) Two "Contagious" Thumbs Up!

"Contagion" is one of those movies you wish would come around more often. It's a dramatic, tense, thought-provoking film with a gripping premise and a talented all-star cast to back it up. Sure, some of you may argue that it's nothing more than a glossed-up version of the 1995 thriller "Outbreak", and I would agree that (in a lot of ways) it is, but there's much more to it than meets the eye. The story revolves around a strange new virus that seemingly emerges out of thin air and begins to spread rapidly amongst countless civilians all around the world. Soon, the contagious and deadly disease becomes nothing short of an international crisis, resulting in millions of worldwide deaths and a pressure-mounting race to find a cure. Does the movie itself end up being as fascinating and suspenseful as its plot? Well, yes and no. While I was most impressed with the majority of the performances of the main cast (including Matt Damon as a grieving husband and protective father, and Kate Winslet as a doctor determined to find a cure for the virus), there were a few actors who I wish I could've seen more of. Gwyneth Paltrow, for example, is barely in the film at all, although she does end up playing a somewhat significant role overall. However, I was perhaps most disappointed with Marion Cotillard's character, whose storyline abruptly finishes before we can even discover what happens to her. As for the pacing of the movie, it could've been a tad speedier at times, especially near the middle. But in the end, I was absolutely pleased with "Contagion". Its dark theme, eerie score, and convincing performances completely captivated and entertained me the whole way through. I'd even go as far as saying it's better than "Outbreak". Now, I understand that this film isn't for everybody (judging from the many negative reviews I read from other moviegoers online). So let me say this: If you easily get bored watching movies that require a slightly substantial amount of thinking and contain more atmosphere and character development than you can handle, then this flick obviously isn't for you. Now that that's out of the way, I'd highly suggest renting "Contagion" if you wanna watch an intelligent, unsettling drama that'll leave your heart pounding out of your chest well after it's over. Also, only buy the film if you've already seen it and you like it.

Contagion is a well executed disaster movie without zombies. It features many great a-list actors/actresses and none of them are safe! Also there's no scenes with the president telling the people to panic and to hide. It's a realistic thriller that will scare you because an outbreak like this is very possible. It also freaks you out when there's one guy in the theatre coughing relentlessly
