Overall this movie is very cute and funny.The CGI animation is beautiful and the characters are lovable.My favorite is Luis the bulldog.It has powerful messages about overcoming adversity for kids as well.I could've done without the songs tho

When this movie first came out, I watched it about five times a day! This movie has been my favorite ever since 2011 and will be for a long long time. I am going to review this story character by character (out of 10). Here we go.

Warning: spoiler alert.

Blu- The best main character out of all movies. Even his name is just awesome. I think it was a good idea to have this awesome bird smart and domesticated, especially since he's been in household for 15 years. His name is creative. I don't just like this character because he's a hero, I like this character because he (only in this prequel movie) is one of only two Blue Spix Macaws period. He is funny, too. Don't forget he can't fly, because that makes me glad to see that this makes his adventure longer, and the best part of the movie is how he learns to fly. Jesse Eisenberg did an awesome job voicing this guy. Hope if there is another sequel, he will voice Blu again. I rate 15 of 10.

Jewel- the perfect idea was to have this bird as Blu's at first (I guess you could say) "enemy", then his acquaintance, afterwards his friend, now they're married (a.k.a chained to each other birds). This whole story about Blu and Jewel is just plain awesomeness. I like in this story how Jewel is used to the wild and Blu is completely domesticated and they are (this time literally) chained together is good. Anne Hathaway knows how to voice this character like a pro. 10 of 10.

Linda- I think it is cool (not just awesome) how Linda and Blu have been in household for portion of a lifetime ever since Blu was smuggled to Minnesota. That was awesome (and as I said earlier, cool). It's even nicer how Blu and Linda get along together throughout the movie. Now that's what I call friendship. They're so friendly, they even have good fun doing their routine together! She also worries about Blu's safety a lot about flying a plane to Rio when Tulio tries to convince Linda to go too (this was in Minnesota). Don't forget how tempting Linda is to save Blu from getting smuggled (again) throughout the entire movie! She even builds a very big sanctuary named after Blu with Blu living in it! 10 of 10 without doubt!

Rafael- Funny, Friendly, Smart, Good with Advice, Likes Music, Likes Love stories, this bird is all of those and maybe even more than that! He is nice to Blu, especially with his good advice about learning to fly, love, and helping him and Jewel get unchained, and Blu returns the favor by freeing him, Nico and Pedro from smugglers on plane. That is a good example of good friendship. He is very funny especially in front of his wife and kids. George Lopez can act and make it look easy when it comes to Rafael. Hard to not say 10 of 10.

Tulio- Comedy is one of the biggest things that explains Tulio, the expert ornithologist. He is good working with Linda, too.

What else can I say? 10 of 10.

Nico- Nico is musical Period. It's hard to say how talented this guy is at music. Also THE best friend of Pedro. They have never (and I mean never) been 25 feet away from each other for a single minute. Not only that, but they are in Blu's, Jewel's, and Rafael's fiend group. Good job on Nico is what I would've said to Jamie Foxx if I met him. Easily a 10 of 10.

Pedro- Three words: hilarious, musical, and friendly. The only thing about Pedro that hasn't yet been explained under Nico's review is that he doesn't sing; he raps. A 10 of 10

Fernando- A smart but poor orphan who is very friendly and helpful towards Linda and Tulio on finding/saving Blu. He is funny. Fortunately for this guy, Linda and Tulio adopt him at the end, and he still is helpful and friendly to his new parents and birds including the main characters. 10 of 10.

Nigel. A fierce, funny, and tough bad guy. That's all she wrote. 10 of 10

Smugglers- Same as Nigel, but Marcel is the only one who isn't so funny and is actually smart, just like Nigel. 10 of 10 each.

I'm glad they made Rio 2 and who knows how happy I'll be if Blue Sky Studios makes a third movie for Rio. I'll be sad if not. Keep up the good work.

Good animation, good story, good voice acting. Everything is good, not great, in the movie. Nice to see some risk being taken in animation storytelling. This one may fall a little short of greatness, but it still satisfies.

I can't buy it

I LOVE this movie! This movie has a light hearted story, great humor, lovable characters and I felt satisfied watching this movie over and over again. Watch this movie! This is the best movie ever tied with the sequel!

Fun movie, good laughs, good music, great animation. Only downside is the evil cockatiel, a rather hacknied cliched device--the bitter former star happily taking it out on the pretty blues, a bit like the evil teddy in Toy Story 3. O well.

This movie was really great and taught many important life lessons. It was cute, funny, and awesome! I loved the movie Rio and I think you would too!! Also, it is one of those movies you could just watch over and over again. In that case, it would be great to buy on iTunes if you ever needed a movie to watch and you didn't know what to watch. It was not the best movie ever, yet it was great for the kids and funny for the grown ups.

I love movies that has someone singing, in this case, a cast of birds (well sung by Jamie Fox, Ann Hathaway, and more). I could not help but to enjoy all the scenes and comedy that Rio brings. After the movie, I was just happy and giddy all over -- I went out and bought myself a Rio soundtrack!

Stupid weird in muture

This is a movie that all kids will love and they will never ever get tired of watching it. It's one of the greatest animated movies of all time. CAN'T WAIT TILL RIO #2

I'm an 18 year old guy, so I dont watch very many animated movies anymore, but I decided to give Rio a shot. After seeing it I can say with 100% certainty that in my opinion Rio the the best animated movie I have seen. Growing up, Ive seen many Disney and Pixar films, but honestly I dont think either will reach the level that Rio has achieved.

From the spectacularly rendered CGI animation, to the amazing cast of actors who fit the characters exceptionally well (such as Jesse Eisenberg as Blu and Anne Hathaway as Jewel), and the upbeat Brazillian soundtrack, Rio is a movie that will instantly become one of your favorites.

This movie doesn't bring anything new. It shows in a visually funny cartoon just the stereotypes that everyone has about Brazil. This country is more than samba, carnival, nude girls and Copacabana Beach. Also, there is not Flamingoes in Brazil.

I was busting up repeatedly while watching this movie. It's a love story bursting with color and flamboyant characters. The songs are a lot of fun and the jokes really made it a home run.

Great movie for anyone, colorful, story is great but a bit easy to figure out and music is great. The music just goes with it so well especially at the party. Recommend to anyone to at least watch it once.

At first, I wasn't sure about this movie but once I saw it, I absolutely loved it! A great movie about friendship, love, and just all around fun. It has some hidden messages in it, like the illegal trade of tropical birds and some cultural messages, like the festival of Carnival. Really enjoyed this movie and I am sure you will too!

My 5 year old daughter loved it. It had "feel good" music with great beats. We left the theater smiling and she smiled the whole way through. They did a great job on this film. We have been waiting for it to come out so I can put it on her ipod.

Honestly one of the best movies of the year. My family travels to the movies frequently, and i found this movie to be quite a suprise for the trailer had led to to believe this movie would not be that great as many others. I found that this movie blended the right amount of appropriate comedy, action, adventure, and romance into the story to even keep younger kids interested. I would recomend this movie to any who want a good time with their family or friends. I would also recomend this as a date movie for any of those wondering :)

Rio is a bright spot in the animated section of 2011, however the story is a bit bird-brained if you know what I mean.

The animation is gorgeous as it renders luchious Brazillian rainforests, colorful tropical birds of all shapes and sizes, and the bustling (strikingly accurate) city of Rio de Janerio.

Jesse Eisenberg stars as the last male Blue Spix Macaw on earth who must travel to Rio to meet his potential mate, tthe lovely Jewel, voiced by Anne Hathaway, in order to save there spcies. Both actors do a wonderful job voiceing thier characters and I hope to see Miss Hathaway do more of this stuff. Other voice actors include George Lopez, Jamie Foxx, Leslie Mann, Will.i.am, Tracy Morgan, Jemaine Clemate, Tracy Morgan, and a few others, all of whom did an equally adequate job.

The songs were very good and quite catchy in a few spots, most notably the numbers Hot Wings and Real in Rio (to my contempt Itunes doesn't provide a few for individual sale...). John Powell provides a wonderful instrumental score to follow up his award winning score from How To Train Your Dragon. He is indeed the king of animated scores, listen for that as well.

My only complaint, and its a rather big factor,is the plot. Though the imagry makes your eyes "pop", the story regretably falls flat on its beak as to what could have been a truely fantastic film. The plot is so utterly generic it pains me to see such great animaton go to waste on it. Lets face it, who hasn't heard a story about a bird who couldn't fly, an endangered animal who must save his species, and at the same time evade poachers and learn the meaning of: love, family, freindship, bravery, yaddayadda. Its all been done before. Its too bad Carlos Saldahna could not stray further away from what made his Ice Age franchise so appealing, and yet so repetitive, to make somthing newer. A few characters, who some have mistaken as required to the plot (ie: Luiz, Pedro, Nico), are abosolutely uneccesary other than by providing means of a cheap laugh during a slow moment.

Other than this Rio is good for kids, but adults my find it a bit trying at times.

The story is fantastic. The colors, the music, and everything just makes you want to get up out of your seat and start dancing Samba. The characters are great and the movie is something you can't go wrong with.

Great movie.

I took my 2yr old son to see this movie when it first came out and he couldnt sit still! He was sooooo excited and couldn't stop singing and dancing to the great music in the movie! This is definitely a great buy. I even enjoyed the movie myself:-)
