Was invited to one of my best friend's birthday parties and we went to the theaters to watch this as a part of her birthday. First time I was allowed to wear dress-up high heels at 8 years old. It brings back a lot of memories. The birthday girl and I were very close, we went to school together and went to each other's houses after school. The friendship was strong until after she moved away. It was after 2012 when we just grew apart so long seven years without seeing her face. This movie will forever hold a part of her for me while watching this movie.

I remember going and seeing this movie in theaters with my dad and little brother when it first came out -- I was only eleven then -- and seven years later, as a recent high school graduate, I can still say that this is still one of my (and my sixteen-year-old brother's) absolute favorite Disney movies. Whenever my friends and I start talking about our favorite Disney movies, without fail, someone will always brings up how underrated they think Tangled is (Mulan and Tangled have always been the biggest favs, but now that Moana has entered the mix, things might change lol). Anyway! All my girlfriends (and quite a few of my guy friends, too) know all the words to the soundtrack and I'll be shocked if Tangled isn't considered a classic by the time I have kids who are all grown up!

Disney, oh Disney, you’ve had your ups and downs over the 49 movies you made before this. While there was a mid-2000s slump of disappointments, after Pixar became a full member of your family, you began to improve, with exciting adventures like Meet the Robinsons and Bolt, and the traditionally animated Princess and the Frog. With these under your belt thanks to the help of Pixar magic, your first CGI musical proves not to be a let down (like what Rapunzel does with her hair), but a raising of the standards for CGI animation as a whole, especially with Rapunzel’s long, long, long, long… long, long hair (thank Disney this movie isn’t as long as Rapunzel’s hair). Our story opens with Rapunzel’s mother being saved by a magic flower that Mother Gothel (Donna Murphy) uses to extend her life and look young. After she accidentally reveals its existence to the guards searching for a cure for the queen, she desperately seeks to get it back somehow, and the queen’s daughter (who she was pregnant with when she was sick and cured) showcases magical hair whose abilities are eerily reminiscent of the flower. To get that power, she pulls a reverse-Bryan Mills, and uses her particular set of skills to take the princess, and use her hair as a magical restorative, and raises her as her own, raising her to be completely helpless. Fast Forward 17 or so years, and Rapunzel (Mandy Moore) wakes up to the day before her 18th birthday, and asks to see the lights that always appear on her birthday (which are actually the king and queen sending lanterns into the sky to get the attention of Rapunzel). After being refused, she eventually discovers Flynn Rider (Zachary Levi) in her tower, after he runs in by accident after being chased by the castle soldiers for stealing Rapunzel’s crown from when she was a baby. After a hilarious interrogation scene, Rapunzel gets him to take her to the source of the lights in exchange for the crown. She boldly goes where no ludicrously long haired princess has gone before: the outside world, and after a montage of feeling good about abandoning her “mother” and feeling bad about it, she gets to the Snuggly Duckling, where a game of cat-and-mouse between her and Flynn and the guards begins, and continues for a while, culminating in another quality Disney climax. The plot isn’t exactly tangled in plot holes, but there is a little more pushing of suspension-of-disbelief than usual. Otherwise, Rapunzel is a great Disney Princess. She may not be as independent and confident as Anna and Elsa proved to be in Frozen, but she adapts eventually (remember she left her tower for the first time ever about 25 minutes in, and only ever had contact with “Mother” Gothel until Flynn arrived, so she was her only positive relationship in her life, and the only other human being she ever had contact with, so it’s alright and realistic for Rapunzel in particular to be a little helpless). Her chemistry with everyone in the film from Flynn to the Snuggly Duckling patrons is priceless comedy and an eye-opening experience to her. We’ve all had eye-opening experiences. All of us have had something happen to us that ripped up what we thought was true and burned the shreds while we’re forced to watch. This is Rapunzel seeing that the world is not the hell-hole that her “mother” made it out to be. Flynn is a classic suave, swashbuckling thief with a heart of gold who makes friends and influences people. All the music does its job, whether the characters start singing in the way all Disney characters must sing in this type of movie. Alan Menken provides a satisfying score while the cast provides wonderful songs that (while not the never-ending anthem Let It Go would be three years later) give us insight into the characters’ feelings and add a layer of fantastical feel-good. And don’t even get me started on the animation. The most expensive animated movie ever made could have just been an awe-inspiring look at how far animation has come since Disney first released Snow White in 1938, but in addition to how far they’ve come in 50 movies and 72 years (as of Tangled’s release), we see an amazing story of an innocent girl meeting the world, and seeing that (while her mother told some truth) everything, like the Weird Al song says, she knew was wrong: the world does have selfish people, but sometimes, the worst-seeming people have dreams too, whether they want to see the floating lights like Rapunzel, or they want to be a concert pianist, mime, or a Pokemon master (last one is my dream, the rest are all from the movie). It actually makes an old Walt Disney quote ring true: “If you can dream it, you can do it.” Walt dreamed animation would bring joy to people, and animation in his name brings joy to those who watch to this day. May Disney give us fifty more classics, and many, many more.

For a 13 year old girl I loved it. When it first came out in the movie theaters I watched it *2* times! Absolutely loved it. It had a great story line and amazing affects throughout the film. It had humor, suspense, and love. It was a movie for all ages to love. The only downside was when repunzels hair got cut... I like that part but they cut it really short, I would of liked it a little below the shoulders. Overall thank you Disney for making one of the best animated films of all time. 2 thumbs up!

What if it isn't everything you dreamed it would be?

It will be.
Holy Guacamole. This movie was amazing. When I first saw the trailers, I was really sceptical that it would actually be worth watching. It seemed too "modern" -- and I couldn't bear the thought of my favorite fairy tale being turned into trash to sell to preschoolers. I was thinking warily of the Tinkerbell movies.
However, I was absolutely blown away. Tangled has definitely become a new favorite with me. It still had that classic Disney charm that made me love movies like The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast.
I can't say I'd put it up there with Disney's greatest -- the songs, while very sweet, were not particularly memorable (with the exception, perhaps, of "Mother Knows Best" and the reprise). I adore Alan Menken, but I keep hearkening back to the music of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, or, as perhaps a better comparison, Enchanted.
The animation was wonderful, however. Breathtaking. I could watch the movie over and over just to take in the lush scenery and intricate detail again. Rapunzel's hair is so lifelike, it almost seems to have a mind of its own :)
My three younger brothers -- ages six through fourteen -- are still hopping around quoting lines from Flynn Rider (voiced by Zachary Levi, whom I love wholeheartedly), so I don't think Tangled is strictly a chick-flick. It's not just a kids' movie, either -- my parents and adult sister enjoyed it just as much as I did.
Bottom line: I wasn't expecting Disney to give us anything like Tangled for their fiftieth animated feature, but I can't have been more overjoyed that they did.
And omigosh I just love Zachary Levi. Who knew he could sing?! :)

Best Movie Ever!!!

You can see the gentle hand of Pixar guiding Disney in this outing (John Lasseter, a former director at Pixar, is this film's executive producer). The characterizations are pure Disney, but the moments, especially those without dialogue, are from the sure confidence that came from the opening sequences of " Wall-E," and "Up," as well as the garbage inferno from. "Toy Story 3." This remarkable blending has resulted in what I think is one of the most charming, entertaining, and emotional animated films I've seen. Even my 14-year old son dug it, and he hates anything with princesses in it (he made me walk out on "Enchanted" with him). This movie made me optimistic, even excited for the future of animated storytelling at Disney!

I am not the hugest fan of Disney; I'll readily admit that. However, I want this movie NOW. This is the best thing since anything; there's nothing inappropriate except one obviously drunk funny old dude, mother Gothel's slightly revealing dress, and one kiss. Not quite. The songs weren't as memorable to the movie as say "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" was for Lion King BUT in all honesty that's the main criticism I can give to this film. The animation was great and the lantern scene on the river rivals even the ball room scene from Beauty and The Beast. What's even better is that the movie is based on a fairy tale which honestly brings back the good old fashioned Walt Disney feeling but at the same time its funny with a modern sense of humor. Great story telling and characters really help sell this movie. Hopefully this is the tip of the iceberg and maybe 10 years of criticism and Pixar ruling as reigning champs of animation has finally awoken the sleeping giant.

Somehow, I always knew that Disney would eventually put its own unique spin on the classic fairy tale "Rapunzel", but I never would have imagined that the story itself would be told in computer animation, let alone in state-of-the-art 3D. Yes, "Tangled", Disney's 50th animated feature film, had me wondering before its release if the filmmakers could really pull off the near impossible: combining rich, creative storytelling with the latest advances in cinematography. Well, they ended up doing so, and not only did the movie exceed my expectations of what Walt Disney Studios could do both creatively and technologically, but it only strengthened my appreciation for the art of animation. With its breathtaking visuals, memorable characters, thrilling action sequences, and refreshing original songs (one of which was nominated for an Oscar), "Tangled" makes for one animated adventure that no one, young or old, should miss out on. So, what are you doing still reading the rest of this review? Buy it already!

I am a 17 year old who took my 4 year old niece to see this because she's a kid, and I am a big Zachary Levi fan, but I was a little annoyed when i found out that Mandy Moore was the voice of Rapunzel, just because I thought she would just play her as this sweet & innocent, and annoying character. However, I was shocked when Rapunzel had became my favorite character in the entire movie. She is such an inspiring disney character, and adorable, that I felt like a kid again and actually wanted to BE her! She is by far one of my favorite Disney princesses next to Jasmine (Aladdin). This movie is a must-see for any Disney film fanatic.

A famous Disney animator once told me that there never was a movie he worked on that was for "kids." His point was that PARENTS buy the tickets and most of the humor is therefore adult oriented. Sure kids love it too, but the target audience is the money tottin' parent. This work was awesome all the way around. I 'm going to have to invest in a blueray player as a result of this movie, dang. . . . Hope Disney tackles more of the mysterious fairy tales lurking around the world. Good job ALL THE WAY AROUND! We especially appreciate that there was no burping and other bodily functions and sexual references that are so common in other films. Just good clean fun and perfect for a family outing of ALL ages!

For years, I've seen Disney release some 'fair' films, but none of them had the magic of the classics I grew up with. That is, until I saw this movie. Tangled is an amazing movie, so hypnotizing that I went back to see it a second time! It's a great movie for all ages and all genders, with a modernized humor that everyone can understand. So bring on the smolder!

LOVE IT

when i heard about this movie, i thought that it will be like the regular story; "rapunzel is locked away in a tower and her prince charming comes to rescue her, yada yada yada" but when i saw the trailer, it took my breath away; it had action, adventure and comedy and thought "ok, this movie is pretty good," but when i saw the advance screening of the movie in theaters, i was laughing so hard, it's a miracle i didn't buy soda otherwise i'd spit it right out to someone's head. it definitely lived up to expectations. it had romance, adventure, action, some fight scenes, drama, singing and a great story line. the entire movie just flowed together and you don't see that many movie that do flow together. and let me say 3 words: BEST. MOVIE. EVER!!!!

My four year old girl loves this movie (except for the last scene in the tower) and I can actually stand watching it more than once as a father. This is the only Disney princess movie that doesn't grate on my nerves, and the songs are catchy (I have to listen to those in the car nonstop). I'll definitely buy this when it comes out.

TANGLED!

I'm a teen and normally I don't like a lot of Disney movies anymore but last year's Princess & The Frog and THIS movie are officially 2 of my fav. movies! The humor in this movie is great, the animated facial expressions are priceless, the songs are catchy, and all the characters are likable. Flynn's "smolder" is enough to make you want to buy this movie! :D

Too cute

When I entered the theater to see this movie, I expected to like it. I've never seen a Disney movie I've not liked, at the very least. However, I certainly wasn't expecting to love it just as much as I did. It was mad funny and well-written. Rapunzel was never my favorite fairytale, but this has to be one of my favorite Disney fairytale remakes.

Hillarious

When I went to go see this movie with my friends I thought it would be sort of a cheesy little girl movie like princess and the frog, but this time Disney did not disappoint.
Tangled was a excelent. It was a unique twist on the original rapunzel movie and had fantastic music.
All of my friends that went to see it with me are fourteen and we all liked it. This movie is awesome!

The single BEST movie of 2010

When I saw this movie opening day in 3D, it blew me away! It instantly became my favorite movie of 2010. Yes, even better than hit movies like Toy Story 3 and The Social Network. It's plot was teriffic, the songs were well written and catchy, and it was very funny. Not to mention that the animation was incredibly beautiful. If you have the means, watch Tangled and you will be surprised!!

Disney's best film in a while.

"Tangled" takes you back to the golden days of Disney with a slight pinch of modern day humor. While at first one might find this a chick-flick, audiences of both genders and all ages will fall in love with this.
The story is a great expansion from the old "Rapunzel" tale we all knew as kids. You learn the reason as to Rapuzel's (played by Mandy Moore) captivity in the tower, how her true love (played by Zachary Levi) found her, and what happened after she 'let down her hair'. It's filled with original, and fun ideas.
The voice acting was nice too. The dialouge between Rapuzel and Flynn Ryder is zingy, and the songs are sweet and humorous. And while the horse and the chameleon don't have a voice, they have all the best lines.
The animation is a sight to behold. Many of the scenes are filled with intiguing detail and will leave you speechless. The scene of the lantern festival when the kingdom releases the lights into the night sky will have the garbage incinerator from "Toy Story 3" eat it's heart out. (Great film though)
Overall, I'd have to call this Disney's best non-Pixar film in nearly a decade. It's a smart, witty, clean, heart-warming good time for the whole family. Two thumbs up.
"You smell that? Take a deep breath through the nose. What are you getting? Because to me, that's part man-smell, and the other part is really bad man-smell. I don't know why, but overall it just smells like the color brown. Your thoughts?" - Zachary Levi as Flynn Rider

Disney at its best ever.

Great movie. contains all components of the perfect family film. Love the movie. This film is for all people of all ages. Its funny, sad, thrilling, suspenseful, and amazingly romantic. This is Disney studios at its best. I don't believe there will never another film half as good as this. Ihope they make a sequel.

Good for Disney--they still have it in them!

Despite being grown adults, my friends and I are always up for a Disney movie that reminds us of being young, so of course we made plans to see "Tangled" on a Friday night. The theater was packed with adults--at least half of whom did not have any children with them--and it's easy to see why. I knew it would be cute and fun to watch, because basically I'm easy to please in the cartoon category, but I wasn't expecting a genuinely well-done film that almost rivals classics like "Aladdin" and "The Little Mermaid". Don't get me wrong--the film does boast modernized animation and slapstick comedy that have been necessary to keep today's kids entertained, and it isn't quite as old school as last year's "Princess and the Frog", but I have to give Disney credit. They still know how to tell a good story, tug at the heartstrings, and pair it with heartfelt music that everyone loves. The morals are still as present as they were twenty years ago, when I was little, and holy cow, the visuals are gorgeous throughout the movie. The scene with the floating lanterns is truly breathtaking, with brilliant colors and striking beauty that mesmerized me completely, so I can only imagine what the experience must be like for a child. I can guarantee that there's a little something for every member of the family in "Tangled". Every age, every taste, and every mood will be satisfied here, and I couldn't be happier that Disney remains capable of making quality movies for kids. Trust me, in our world, younger generations aren't always as lucky with the cheap media they're exposed to, but this is one pleasant exception. Enjoy every minute of it!

Incredible Achievement by Disney

Our 4-year old daughter was hooked by the trailer, but after seeing Tangled, our whole family fell in love with it. A great story, wonderful characters, uplifting themes, and a perfect blend of humor and heartstring-tugging create a Disney experience that rivals the glory of the classic Disney animated movies of the late 80s and early 90s. Coupled with a truly engaging, colorful, masterfully imagined CGI landscape, it's a feast for the eyes. Disney made the retelling of the classic Rapunzel tale modern, hip, and hysterical. See this movie with your family!

Great movie
