Rather dated, and not even in a groovy or psychedelic way. My 8 year old had read this children's classic in his 3rd grade class and was disappointed as it didn't seem to capture what his imagination saw. The animation just doesn't translate we'll, and led both of us to thinking what a wonderful remake this would be as a movie or broadway show. See if you must, but I think this one misses - so better to leave the joy from the book to the imagination.

The young boy Milo is bored with the known world until a mysterious tollbooth arrives. Although, this starts out as live action it quickly becomes an alterante, animated world that Milos has to help put back in order. Mel Blanc who is best known for his work as Bugs Bunny and friends & many other known talents lent their voices to this gem of movie. A great film for children that teaches life lessons in a very entertaining manner. This movie is based on a wonderful book of the same name by Norton Juster.

This was the first real book I read all the way through in a single sitting. I was probably 9 or 10 ('69 or '70). It was one of my favourite books. When I finally saw the movie many years later, I loved it as well. Brilliant movie and a must see for kids. I love the word play.

Best Movie. EVAHH.

Okay, so don't listen to the tomatometer.
Listen to the people who love the movie/book.
It's very close to the book, except for the fact that the music lady is missing.
Either way, totally worth the money. LOVE THIS MOVIE.

Alright, I've never wanted to write a review on here until I saw what the tomato meter gave THIS movie. Seriously? Never go with the meter. Listen to what the people on here say about and from there see if you want to give the movie a go. Don't listen to that dumb meter.
I love this movie and remember watching it when I was younger. I'm 23 and For the 7 or 8 years I could not find this movie. and Eureka! I'm so glad we have been re-united. Good, simple and enjoyable movie. (I like it better than some movies today)
You might just like this one too.

I read part of the book but always thought that the movie was so much better. It's so colorful and I love the soundtrack! This is one of my favorite movies ever and I hope that what I heard about a remake NEVER happens because it will be terrible!

My Favorite Movie :)

I'm 24 years old and I remember being just a kid watching this movie just the other day. I watched it so much I broke the vhs tape. I've been looking for this movie for a while now and almost purchased it online but the vhs runs about $25.00-$40.00 which is crazy and then to find a vhs player in this day and age is also impossable. I'm so happy I found it here on itunes and I'm downloading it right now. I hope it plays and is as good as I remember. I believe even though this movie is older every kid should watch it atleast once its very educational and its cartoon will keep kids wanting to watch it. very good movie.

Great Movie... happy it's on the iTunes Store

Loved this movie as a little girl! My Big sister would read me the book because I was too little to read it myself. I had found it on VHS a year ago and bought it to show my 5 and 6 year old. They loved it too!

This was a movie that was a highlight of my childhood. For our 3rd grade school play we acted out scenes dealing with the Dodecahedron and we learned about basic math concepts from this movie. And I read the book at least three times a kid. Great book and great movie!!!

Great film adaptation of an amazing book!

I've been waiting to find this in non-VHS format for _ages_. This movie needs to be shown to every child that has ever said "I'm bored."
The movie is a great mix of animation and live action, amazingly done for a 40-year old piece of work. The iTunes plot summary wraps things up pretty well, but there is so much more to this movie, emphasizing the importance and excitement of living life and showing that learning, indeed, is fun. Sure, 1970 is a bit out of date for today's kids, and the 1961 book is even further back, still, but the moral of the story is still an important one.
Spend the 3 bucks and hour and a half to rent and watch this movie! It's worth every penny, and every goofy second!
