Simple story of a boy becoming a man down on his luck trying to find his niche in the world. I always love watching this movie and dreamed of being the one behind the controls of a Gunstar, now I'm a pilot!

Great movie

Greetings, Starfighter. Although I'm one year younger than this movie, I absolutely grew up with The Last Starfighter. Aside from The Empire Strikes Back, I have probably seen The Last Starfighter more than any other movie. It has a timeless hero's journey story, but told with the help of a video game. Although I might be a bit nostalgia-biased, but these 1984 computer generated special effects still look good even today.

I loved this movie as a child and now, as an adult, it still holds a special place in my heart. If you are looking for a nice simple adventure story than look no further. Catherine Mary Stewart is one of my favorite actresses to this day and this movie never fails to put a smile on my face. However, one thing I do have to caution you on is the graphics. By today's movie goer standards, the graphics are poor but for those that grew up in the 80's they will sure to bring back memories of simpler times.

being born in the 80's this movie was the best

I watched this movie as a kid back in the late 80's and 90's one of the first video game movies ever made. Its funny to watch this movie but this is like looking in a history book and living in the 80's and early 90's.Just brings back so many Happy Memories.

Loved this movie!

What a great movie. I remember seeing this in the theatre and being amazed at the CGI... Well, the CGI seems quaint now, but the story still holds you. Guess what, you don't need cutting edge special effects when the story is good (Are ya listening George?)
Best exchange ever:
LS: "It'll be slaughter!"
G: "That's the spirit!"

One of my all time favorites!

What is there to say about 'The Last Starfighter'? I first saw this movie when I was only six, and ever since it's been one of my favorites. When I was younger, whenever I saw it on I would try to watch at least part of it, and I know it perhaps a little too well. It's an enormous amount of fun, and the characters are a lot of fun to get to know. Centauri and Grig were incredible supporting characters, and Louis was a hilarious little brother. As someone said, the best line in the movie is at the end, but there are some other great lines there too. Lines that will make you laugh, make you smile, and may even make you cry.
This movie led to the (graphic) technology Hollywood uses now in movies, and without that Cray X-MP supercomputer in 1984 (and this movie it helped create), then I'd say we might not have that technology now. The visuals gave us a good number of new things to imagine, and that movie certainly gave us a lot of dreams.
I will also say that the (orchestral) soundtrack is amazing. Once you hear the main theme, you won't ever forget it. It has a tremendous amount of power, and the orchestra playing it put a lot of heart in to giving us something great to listen to, with or without the movie. The main theme is great.
It's a shame Robert Preston and the actor playing Grig will not get a chance to be a part of any sequel, but I would certainly say that they did quite a job in the original.

In the summer of 1984, I read a little paperback book based on a new movie that was being released that same summer.
I was 16 years old and with every page I turned, I just couldn't wait to see that movie.
The problem was, I was away at overnight camp for the whole summer! (kinda like Meatballs without Bill Murray).
When the summer ended, I had long since finished the book and I returned home to the big city.
One of the first things I did was get myself to the theatre.
The Last Starfighter was one of those movies that I've since seen so many times, I practically know every line, word for word.
For me, it never gets old.
As others have pointed out, it was actually the first movie ever, to use CGI. Massive Cray super computers that took up small rooms were used to create the amazing special effects (for the time).
Who wouldn't want to save the Star League with hundreds of worlds, including Earth?!
No matter what, this movie will always bring a smile to my face.
Thanks for bringing it in HD, iTunes.
Now, if you can just get the Starfighter Game for my iPad!

Not so many people are aware that The Last Starfighter started it all... CGI for making movies. Dollar for dollar for both making the movie and paying to see it, this may be THE, or one of the best movies for entertainment ever made! It is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I've been a movie watching "nut" for fifty-five years or so! Thanks iTunes store for making it available for download!

It's thin on plot, the graphics and special effects are ancient by current standards, the characters are pretty one-dimentional. It's everything you expect from one of these old classics from the camp generation. I never fail to walk away from this movie feeling inspired to fight the Kodan armada and Zur or wishing for The Last Starfighter II.

Great movie for kids to believe in....

This movie is one of my favorite movies of all time. When I was young and first saw this movie, I actually hoped that the Star League would recruit me to be a Starfighter. I'm so glad that iTunes got this movie.

I can't believe they have this movie on here. Lol. The last star fighter is a great little movie. It has that child-like feeling where a kid playing games imagine's the ships and universe becoming reality. It's humorous at times, but a good clean flick as well. Not bad.
