Description

Where the Red Fern Grows is the heartwarming and adventurous tale for all ages about a young boy and his quest for his own red-bone hound hunting dogs. Set in the Ozark Mountains during the Great Depression, Billy Coleman works hard and saves his earnings for 2 years to achieve his dream of buying two coonhound pups. He develops a new trust in God as he faces overwhelming challenges in adventure and tragedy roaming the river bottoms of Cherokee country with "Old Dan" and "Little Ann." The movie follows the inseparable trio as they romp relentlessly through the Ozarks, trying to tree the elusive "Ghost" raccoon. Their efforts prove victorious as they win the coveted gold cup in the annual coon-hunt contest, capture wily ghost coons and bravely fight a mountain lion. Through these adventures Billy realizes the meaning of true friendship, loyalty, integrity and heroics, in this timeless and poignant coming of age story.

Where the Red Fern grows is an amazing story. I really like it but I do suggest reading the book first. One compliant that I do have is how you can tell how old the movie is (poor quality) but I did pay for the lesser quality version.

I have seen this movie so many times, I have lost count, and I still cry from beginning to end.
What a wonderful story and a wonderful peek into the lifetime of that era.
All the characters are great, and the dogs are wonderful, too.
There are some obvious gaffs in filming such as continuous boom mike appearing in many still shots. It kind of shoots the mood, and reminds you are in a set. Otherwise, the actions shots hunting are great.
Definitely, a "must watch" for everybody.

im in the 7th grade. Our english class had to read this as a state requirement for this year. I absolutley love the book...and the movie is amazing too! The lessons i learned in this book will help me through the rest of my life. But the #1 thing i relized is that everything happens for a reason...have faith that god will guide you through. (after reading this and seeing the movie i went home and hugged and kissed my dog! it taught me what loyalty and determination really mean!)
