Horrible version.

This is by far the worst version of P&P that I've seen to date. From start to finish it was more like a farce than a film version of a classic piece of literature. Worst of all, Greer Garson was so was incredibly miscast in this film. She was 36 years old at that time, and looked every bit of it. Really, it was silly seeing a woman that age wearing big bows in her hair and trying to act like a much younger woman. It didn't work. A lot of the costuming was over the top, as well. Altogether a very unsatisfying movie.

Not exactly true to Austen, but has all the heart!

as many have and will point out, it is not exactly true to the book, or the style of dress. WHO CARES!! Jane Austen would have probably love this version very much because it captures the heart, and doesn't let go. Greer Garson and Sir Laurence Oliver are wonderful as Elizabeth and Darcy. All of the sisters were a delight, as well as all of the other cast. It was wonderful, and will always be my favorite version.

I love this verison because of the beautiful dresses. Wonderful! I love the plot. It does sway from the jane austen book, but its still a pretty good verison. Laurence Olivier is so HOT! He is best Darcey yet.

Best version of them all!

This film is head and shoulders above the Keira Knightly version of a few years ago even though technically that version is more faithful to the letter of Jane Austen this is more faithful to the spirit of it. Plus Greer Garson has more acting ability in her little finger than Ms. Knightly has in her whole body. This script which was worked on by Aldous Huxley sparkles with wit and charm. Laurence Olivier is the best Darcy of any of the film versions though Colin Firth runs a close second. Great movie and worth buying.

great classic film

I have seen all versions, and yes iTunes has them all. The Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle version is under TV and not film, since it is technically not a film but a series. I do like the 2005 version best because it has a broader focus than the others. But Olivier is excellent in this movie, as well as Greer Garson but you do have to like movies from this time period to like them.

Garson is gorgeous!

This is my favorite film adaptation for several reasons. Lizzie has the sharpest wit in this one, Darcy is played with moments of warmth and charm that often seem missing from other performances. You can actually like him. Usually the performances are sooooooo withdrawn and sullen the romantic tension Austin created on the page never blossoms on the screen. And then there are Mr and Mrs Bennett, Mrs in particular is often played as unrelentingly shrill, I almost didnt make it through the much ballyhooed Colin Firth version for the painful sound of Mrs Bennett. She is still a bit silly and shrill here, but just a bit. And who could be more perfect as Mr Bennet than Edmund Gwynn?

plot summary has alot of errors

I have seen every version of P & P. Jane Austen is my favortive author of all time. Although the 1995 version with Collin Firth is a more true to form version of P&P, this version is extremely charming. Austen's charm and desire for the strong heroine to at last win in love is not lost. It is definitely a lighter version - i.e. Lady Catherine's acceptance "test" for Mr. Darcy, as opposed to her disgust at him possibly marrying a woman with no connections instead of her daughter in the novel. As a writer myself, I believe literature is something for each person to interpret their own way to appreciate it. As long as the screenplay doesn't travel too far from the writer's intent, it's a definite honor and a wonderful way to expand the audience.

Wonderful

I love this movie so very much! It has the right mix of drama and romance, if you are into that sorta of thing. The cast is superb and I would watch this movie over and over again. This is a must see for anyone who enjoy a good old fashion love story!

Way to go iTunes!

You misspelled the original author's name. It's Jane Austen not Austin... she's not a city in Texas. LOL Whoever typed up the info on the movie clearly has no idea who she is, much like the cops in New England who didn't know who Bob Dylan was and arrested him for loitering.

Brutal!

Love the story and classic movies, but this is awful. They butchered the story and the acting is horrendous - I want my money back!

Ehh... Where is Firth?

I love most classic black and white movies but having watched both of the other versions of Pride and Prejudice I have to say the original falls flat for me. The 1995 version featuring Collin Firth is by far the best and of course it is not on iTunes. Firth gives perhaps the greatest and most realistic portrayl of Darcy and I am disappointed that in order to watch the movie through iTunes I was forced to choose either the 40s version or the most recent.

Can we get Firth and Ehle (1995)?

I know there are already two versions of P and P on iTunes, but, honestly, the version w/ Colin Firth as Darcy and Jennifer Ehle as Elizabeth is the best all-time! Could iTunes please please please start carrying it?!?!

Best movie ever!!!

I love love this movie. Seen it about a million times and could watch a million more times.
One thing is who ever decides on the cover needs thier eyes checked. That is Mae West on the cover not Greer Garson.

A True Classic!

In spite of the liberties with the storyline (which the Jane Austen purists will detect right off), these characters (the main and supporting) are terrific- and funny. This is one of my all time favorites.

iTunes, can you put the 2005 Keira Knightley version up please?

I just want to watch that one. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing bad about this one I like a good 'ol black and white movie every now and then. But why don't you have the modern version??

Fantastic and DEFINITELY worth it.

This version of Pride and Prejudice is amazing. Laurence Olivier is one the most talented, if not the best, actor in history. He is wonderful and inspiring, especially in this film. Greer Garson is beautiful and completely fits the character of Elizabeth Bennet; she is clever, witty, charming and alluring. The movie as a whole is satisfying and lovely, and I promise you, you will NOT regret buying and watching it. It is a stud classic. :)

don't bother

Bleah. The late 1990s A&E miniseries, and the Keira Knightly film from a few years ago are much better

the best are always the oldest!

Of course, this version does take liberties and strays from Jane Austen's classic in some ways. However, it doesn't seem to matter in the least--the characters still retain their charm, and the small changes actually work for the movie. I love the new version, but this old version is still my favorite.
