The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, is an amazing start to the trilogy. The cast is great, all the sets feel real, and it is easy to get caught up in it's epic story, even if you do not know a lot of LOTR lore. The costumes and special effects are dazzling and real-looking, and the characters are interesting and believable. The score by Howard Shore is amazing, and continues to be amazing throughout The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. Definitely watch this great movie.

ok fellowship of the ring isn’t a bad movie it really isn’t. but i just wanted to point out that i was a little disappointed in the battle scenes. but over all this movie is my favorite along with the other two films. i remembered seeing the return of the king in theaters with my family a long time ago and it just inspired me to a lot of the things i wanted to do in life. but this movie is ok! i think out of all three film i have to say that return of the king was my favorite. so the first film didn’t do it for me but i still think its a great film!

These 3 amazing films are by far my favorite movies ever. I highly entertaining high fantasy movie. The first in the trilogy is fantastic. It also includes my favorite scene/area of all 6 films.(6 as including the hobbit). Moria is by far my favorite lol. It so my favorite movie scene out of any movie. But anyway, these films are very very impacting on religion emotion friendship and courage and wisdom. Buy this trilogy and watch a thrill ride of the best movies ever.(fact: these are still considered the best eulogy ever made still. Third movie still on the top 5 best movies ever made).

Nothing more can really be said. This film is a masterpiece - acting, cinematography, effects and score are all top notch. Jackson & co. have distilled the book down to the essentials but that is not a bad thing - it is still rich and alive on screen.
Ultra minor quibble with the iTunes version - for some reason the on screen text at the opening which reads "The Shire... 60 years later" appears as a subtitle, not prominent on screen in the beautiful font as it did in the theater. Strange.
Critics need to back off of great films.

I understand critics and all, but for these films. The lord of the rings was made every single Christmas month for 3 years in a row, give Peter Jackson a break. These were great films by the way, I have all the extended versions on my movie shelf.

Thats all this movie is pure epicness. The acting is incredible by just about everyone the four hobbits frodo not included were the bad ones the battle scenes were epic while it is not completely true to the book they had to change it due to screentime, But unlike Prince Caspian they stayed true to the charecters i would highly reccomend this and the other two.
p.s i bet you didnt know that J.R.R Tolkien the auther of lord of the rings was C.S Lewis' writing teacher and friend. probably why both series' are simialer

My favorite movie. It's epic and known around the world, so why aren't the other two available? I've been checking back almost weekly for half a year now and still can't get them. I understand they're long movies, but at least include the second film, it's usually the most loved and has the most action. If you don't want to add the third movie at least include the second, your sales would be phenominal.

This is the beginning of possibly the greatest film trilogy of all time. Considering this was made a decade ago, the production value is extremely high. The acting is solid, but the movie's main focus is story and detail. It's complex, original, yet not difficult to understand. Even if you don't normally enjoy fantasy, give this series a go. You might be surprised. Also, when is iTunes getting the rest of the trilogy? They're even better than this.

I do wish they had all 3 extended versions, but I didn't even expect to find one!! A must see!! This is a fantastic movie, and can easily stand on it's own for entertainment, and so glad it's on itunes. BUT true fans will want access to all three films of The Lord of The Rings Trilogy, to include The Two Towers and The Return of the King, even if only to rent. The Fellowship of the Ring is beautifully directed and produced, but it's a cliff hanger. Add the others to itunes so we can enjoy them all!

I have the Extended Edition DVDs (4 CDs per movie) and they are amazing! The Extended edition has at least 45 minutes more content that allows for a greater look into the world of Middle-Earth. Plus the the DVDs have the special features. Tons of stuff!
iTunes should at least give us the extended edition. They eventually will so I will not buy until then but I am still rating this movie 5 stars. Click yes if you agree.

Alright, basically The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring is one of my most favorite movies of all time. Frodo Rocks! And so do the Elves. In my opinion one of the best cast selections picked for a movie, period. This movie will be so sick on my iPod. Fellowship is a great buy if you like action and elves.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING is a masterpiece of a movie. What is there not to like about it? We have an outstanding cast, fabulous story, awesome action, marvelous morals, jaw-dropping effects, I could go on. And not to say that it is based off of one of three of the greatest books ever written. Since this film, along with THE TWO TOWERS and THE RETURN OF THE KING is one of the three greatest films of all time, I feel I can't say enough to justify it in an iTunes review, so this is shorter than some of my other reviews. Let's just say that this film is a pleasure to watch, from the set pieces and effects (mind blowing in themselves) to the simple yet intriguing plot and character development. When I first saw this film, I was outraged (having never heard of LORD OF THE RINGS before then) that they ended such a wonderful film on an anticlimatic cliffhanger. Thank Tolkien the series didn't end here. This is one of three films to rule them all...
CONTENT: Much intense action, battlefield, and magic violence (not very graphic); a romantic, though not problematic, subplot; some smoking; much frightening moments and images (abandoned mines littered with skeletons; bloodthirsty orcs; grim reaper-like ring wraiths; etc.).

This movie is excellent by itself, although it is better viewed as part of a package with The Two Towers and Return of the King. The movie moves at a quicker pace than the book, while sticking to most of the book's storyline and maintaining the book's original feel. It helps that the movie has great acting and special effects. Although I prefer the book, the movie is a great way to enjoy the same story in much less time.

'Fellowship of the Ring' is possibly my favorite movie of all time. Peter Jackson & Crew did the unthinkable and not only successfully adapted Tolkien's books to the big screen, but in a lot of ways improved upon the experience and characters. The cast is perfect - the score is perfect - everything is perfect. I hope iTunes gets the 2nd and 3rd film soon, too, as well as the Extended Editions.

This is my personal favorite of the LOTR movies, but the other two are amazing in their own right. The trilogy is really just one story and I don't like regarding the Two Towers and Return of the King as sequels but as continuations. These films are the best book to movie adaptions ever. Barely ever hearing of The Lord of the Rings, I went in to see this film in theaters the consecutive Friday it was released, to not only be flabbergasted at its greatness, but wanting more! Since then, I devoted myself to seeing the following two films on the first day of release -- a promise I kept.
Peter Jackson's take on Tolkien's fantasy masterpiece not only carries a great deal of the text to full film fruition, but shows the power of film, and proving that nothing is impossible. Jackson's vision is continuous, and never seems to loose grasp of the story that is being told. Using the artistry of John Howe and Alan Lee, The Fellowship of the Ring gleams with a beautiful and dark atmosphere, a length of detail that makes it seem like everyone and everything has its own history, and full of wondrous images one could never imagine.
The acting is superb. With a complex script, each actor has transformed these characters into 3-D people with deep back-story, and people that we feel compassion for. This is one extraordinary ensemble cast. Each actor IS that character, making it seem impossible to imagine anyone else fill that person's shoe in their stead. Viggo Mortensen IS Aragorn. Sir Ian McKellen IS Gandalf the Grey. Elijah Wood IS Frodo Baggins. One could weep with our heroes should one fall, or feel inspired when they achieve victory. A fantasy with this much emotion just seems surreal, but it's completely believable.
Never losing pace, the writing and direction is flawless, making for one enthralling introduction into Middle-earth. The voice over prologue fills even the most uneducated audience member with all the necessary knowledge they need to know in order to understand our heroes' and villains' motives. Some things of course have been omitted for pacing reasons. While not present in the theatrical cut, we do see the passing of the Grey Elves, and get a brief tale of Beren and Luthien. The barrow-wights and their story is no where to be seen (as interesting as it is in the book, there really is no place for it in this film) and Tom Bombadil is absent as well, but thankfully to the ingeniousness of the writers, in the Extended Edition of The Two Towers a little homage is paid to the character. Omissions and changes are always part of adapting a book to film, and the ones made by Peter Jackson, Phillipa Boyens and Fran Walsh are justifiable in every way.
The action scenes are spaced out thoroughly enough for breathing room, plot advancement, and ever-continuing character development. Each action scene is its own, be it the flight to the Fjords of Bruinen, the Mines of Moria, or the showdown at Amon Hen near the end of the film. All are greatly choreographed, each stunt member and actor is full of energy and ambition as they wield deadly weapons at each others' heads and limbs. It really is a sight to behold.
The special effects are mesmerizing. The use of CGI, miniatures/bigatures, and even clever camera angles blend to make one ideal image after the other. The soaring images of Barad-dur or Orthanc seem real when in fact, they only stand so many feet high. The Argonath, two figures of enormous height standing before the Anduin River seem like 300 foot creations, when in fact they are about only several feet off the ground. Simply jaw-dropping imagery.
Howard Shore's score for The Fellowship of the Ring is a beautiful, epic, and complex piece of work that makes one feel like they have been entranced. Even when some of the text seems omitted from the screen, it can be heard through the powerful instrumentation conducted and created by this composer. The use of leitmotifs to symbolize a country, race, or character is stunning.
Overall, The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring is a visionary masterpiece, allowing the world to see what seems like actual history with fantastic elements, equaling the greatness of Hollywood's earlier classics. As the first of three, one who has not seen these films can await the next several hours of their lives to be changed for ever.

I am glad to see that the first of the trilogy is on iTunes. Now if they could only put the Two Towers & Return of the King on here. Would also like to see the extended versions as well.

This is one of the best dramatizations of any book I have ever seen. Tolkein's books are some of the greatest ever written, and now this movie takes them to another level. this movie has almost single-handedly opened up a new genre of fantasy movies.
