Description

A ticking-time-bomb insomniac (Edward Norton) and a slippery soap salesman (Brad Pitt) channel primal male aggression into a shocking new form of therapy. Together they create a new "fight club" where young men come to relieve their frustrations by beating each other to a pulp. Their concept catches on, with underground "fight clubs" forming in every town, until a sensuous eccentric (Helena Bonham Carter) gets in the way and ignites an out-of control spiral toward oblivion.

This is probably my new favorite movie of all time. If you’re looking for a bunch of shirtless dudes beating the living crap out of each other you’ll get plenty of that, but that’s not the main focus of the movie. It poses a philosophical conundrum which calls into question what it means to be a man in the late 20th century. It is all executed perfectly through smart dialogue and an outstanding performance from Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. Please watch

It works on multiple levels, as stories are within stories. Only issue is, now there are cloud servers with debt on. Mr.Robot tv series deals with this if anyone wants to check that show out. Pitt & Norton are perfect in this.

One of a lifetime movie. This review is being written years after the release of this masterpiece. I have loved this strange and deep movie for years upon years now. I always hope for some type of remake... but it could only be a lesser film. Brad Pitt and Edward Norton are forever etched into the power of this complex and brilliant experience that surpasses almost all current and good movies. Top ten films on a lot of people’s list. Including mine.

To all the thieves and their jackals and the ones who pay them to surround their target to coverup the massive “Great Gatsby” heist called tech and the ideas stolen to get such great wealth, watch this movie and ask yourself this question as you may be one of those who are in on the take, the slowkill, the destruction of the mind so that what was memorized, not written down, cannot be recollected, such as a new way to do math, a better computer, a hack proof computing chip, etc, may I suggest you buy and pay for food-tasters the next time you buy or eat food somewhere? Do you really know the bartender or barista? When you are all thieves, thieves always go to the ones who pay more than the original contractor. You can’t trust anyone because it is your lifestyle and you assume because you are such scum, everyone else is just like you, like the scene at the end of the movie Enemy of the State or The Departed, is your soon to be final showdown, Scarface style. I’d say surrender, but maybe you should just swallow that poison pill inside your tooth, and you know who you are. I will immortalize you as the trash your life was in a book, a movie script and a song, as I am a world class musician too, by the way, all the way back to the original riff for Smells Like Teen Spirit. In death, nothing you can do about that as it will be immortalized and you will always be remembered for the monster your life was and the shame that will bring to your relatives, assuming you weren’t hatched in a pod. Carpe Diem.

This was a really great movie. I had always heard of it but never got the chance to watch it. But recently I saw it at Wal Mart and thought "Eh ok I'll give it a shot." Bought it and went home and watched it. Loved this movie. At first it was a bit lame and then it got better then it just got weird and then BOOM! Twist at the end and that made the thrill and the intensity and the story line even better. In fact, if anybody didn't like this movie at first, I think their mind was changed after the plot twist toward the end of the movie. Really great movie. I recommend it for anybody!!!

I still don't understand this film at all.

The main message of this film was lost to me. Why? I am not sure because usually most films I can either relate to or understand in some manner. Most people will think this movie is completely action packed, hense the name "Fight Club". But what most wont know about this movie is that it has a completely different and deeper side to it that deals living your life to the fullest and not being afraid to die incomplete. This is why people say that Fight Club is a lifestyle, which wont sound crazy at all if youve seen the movie. Watching this movie completely changed my perspective on life. The two main characters are complete opposites which more adds to their individual personalities and morals. And it has by far, THE BEST plot twist of any movie ive ever seen.

This movie is high art. They look stupid on the cover, but this must be appreciated for what it is: a timeless classic. I may be in the minority in saying this, but it is one of the few movies that is as good as the novel it is based upon. Easily the best single thing to come out of the nineties... anyone got anything better? Nose hair trimmer? Nevermind? Bill Clinton? Did not think so. Good luck getting bored of this movie... it won't happen, because every time you see it, you will notice new things, new minute details. Also, it's really good to memorize every line of the movie, or even take matters into your own hands, and start to act it out in real life, for example start fights with random people. One of the most difficult things to do in life: let that which truly does not matter, sliiiiiide

This movie is more than just a movie, its a philisophical revolution against the concepts of consumerism, a flaming bag of dookey on every porch of any guy who defines himself by the shirts that he wears or the Lowfers that he wears on his feet.
Chuck Palahniuk in the novel gave the counter culture one of its strongest manifestos, the equivalent to the Anarchist's Handbook for any special forces agent. The movie was done so brilliantly that the overall message of the novel was not lost, forgotten, or "Adapted" to the point that it was pointless. Artistic License is used with this property as a way of bringing the novel to film, not giving the novel a "New Spin" or adapt it for mass appeal.
I watched the movie, and enjoyed it so much that I read the book. I enjoy both so much that this was one of the first Movies that I downloaded onto my I-Tunes. Read It, Watch It, How every you choose to diseminate the message, enjoy the ride. I recommend this to any guy with a Pulse, PERIOD.

People say they can't talk about this because of the first two rules of Fight Club. Although that's true, another reason is probably because this movie really has no progressive plot. I'm not saying there's no story. It's a great story. It's just that the way it's told, there really is no way to describe it.
So let me say how it changed me:
-I went generic brands for a year.
-I made soap.
-I came in touch with The Hypnotist.
-I became narcaleptic for a short time.
-I became an insomniac for a short time.
-I people searched Tyler Durden until I was sure I was safe.
-I cried in fear of my friends.
-I went to an AA meeting to watch.
This movie is different from any you'll ever see, and it will change you for the worse.
See it.
-Brad

This movie isn't really about fighting, although a good deal of it takes place. It's really one of those "trippy" films but with a humorous as well as grim tone. It evokes many philosophical viewpoints a well, especially Nietzsche. The story was really never intended as anything groundbreaking by the author, but it being made into a movie made it an overnight success. Norton plays his part as a disenfranchised corporate toady well, and Pitt embodies the loose, nihilistic, and zany Tyler Durden. Whatever this movie costs, your life will be poorer for having not seen it, so cough up.

First of all, this movie introduced me to Edward Norton, my new all time favorite actor, as well as showed me how movies can actually be GREAT again. I'd watched this movie not knowing the story and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. If you're looking for a movie that has everything, this is just the one for you. Amazing plot, stays true to Chuck Palahniuk's book, and, of course, has made film history. BUY FIGHT CLUB.

Now I'm a female, and I'm not the one to typically write a review -- I usually read them. I feel like this is such a worthwhile movie that I feel obligated to write one in praise. I first rented the movie here on iTunes; skeptical on whether I'd like it or not. I loved it so much I went to FYE the very next day to shell out $10 for the DVD. Since then, I've watched it three times.
I don't understand how a woman wouldn't like this movie - what's better than Brad Pitt shirtless beating on another guy? Not only that, almost every line in Fight Club can be a quote. It also is a little eerie and has a sense of mysteriousness to it. I learn new things about this movie every time I watch it and a different outlook on life each time.
Simply amazing would be an understatement, and words can't describe how great this movie is - just buy it.

This is the best movie I think I have ever seen, it has suspense, mind games, blood, guts, fighting, explosions, and the best acting I have ever seen before in a movie. I recently read the book and have found the two to be very close, which is rare in today's movies. They differ only slightly, mostly chronilogically, but in my belief the movie beats the pants of the book. It is probably the best book to movie ever. I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!

I love this movie, but have never been one to be absorbed in its cult of young boys repeating the words of Tyler Durden and applying it's values to everyday life. To me, this movie has a very different message. It does not infer that it is okay to express your frustration through beating up your friends and neighboors. It does not condone buring you hand with lye. Rather, it brings our attention to a society wound to tight, and focused on all the wrong things. One of the best lines;
TYLER:"Do you know what a duvet is?"
JACK: "It's a comforter."
TYLER: "No, it's a blanket, just a blanket. Now why do guys like you and I know what a duvet is?"
Summarizes everything that is wrong with our generation. Now this review is turning out a bit angrier that i would like, This is a masterpiece of a film, funny, well-acted, engaging. I myself have watched it over and over and over and over. I don't care if you rent or buy, just see it, it is a classic.

I'm not going to lie to you. I love this movie. I saw it for the first time ever last summer (2007) and in one month alone, watched it 32 times. I've seen it just over 60 times altogether, I've read the book 12 times, and I own a copy of the screenplay. The movie is fantastic not just because it has a great story, great characters, and two of the most incredible actors of all time, but because it has a message.
We meet the narrator, a thirty-something worker for a car company, and find out that he has insomnia. He is completely dissatisfied with life, and tries to fill the void by buying things that he feels define him as a person. That complete him. It's only once he meets a "single-serving friend" named Tyler Durden (under some very odd circumstances) that he realizes that buying things he doesn't need is not the answer. Tyler explains that society as a whole has become nothing but one mass consumer organization obsessed with celebrity magazines, television with 500 channels, designer clothing, and materialism in general. So him and Tyler start up a group that is used to express their hate for the world around them and the fact that no matter how hard you work, everything you accomplish will eventually be forgotten. A club that uses violence as a form of psychotherapy. A fight club.
Tyler, however, has bigger plans. Tyler wants to bring society into the next Ice Age. The only possible way this can be done? By moving fight club out of the basement and turning it into Project Mayhem...
This is based on the first book that Chuck Palahniuk ever got published. It was also Jim Uhls' first screenplay, and amazingly, Chuck actually liked the ending of the movie better than what he wrote for the book.
You won't be missing out on anything if you haven't read the book either, because this is a rare case in which the movie is just as good as the book for its own reasons and vice-versa. Highly recommended. 5 out of 5.

BUY IT!!!

I read a review here where someone said 'I don't know any girls who would like a film like this.' Well if anyone agrees with that or thinks like that, in regards to this film, then you missed the whole point of the movie. Don't let the title of the film or reviews like that deter you from seeing the film. The story line is fantastic and really makes you rethink about how you are living your life right now. I read the book first and it was great, I finally saw the film about a couple of years ago. The film brings the book alive, David Fincher and Jim Uhls are amazing! They really understood what they were working with. Edward, Brad and Helena were perfect for the roles they played. The book and film are so much more than just the fist throwing and blood.

I assumed the already had this movie a while ago.

Finally!
When I first saw the trailer for this film back in 1999, I didn't think this film would go anywhere. When it came out on video, a friend of mine had me sit down and watch this film. I'm glad he did. Lots of twists and turns will keep you interested, and the movie sticks, for the most part, to Chuck Palahniuk's novel (spoiler: only the ending is changed).
Simply put, this film is just awesome! =)

Finally!!!!

When I first heard about this movie it was from a friend who said how amazing it was. Now I can admit that in the beginning i thought this movie would be pretty good at most, but boy was I wrong. This had to be one of the best movies I've ever seen. How it didn't even get nominated for best movie in the Academy Awards I'll never know. Edward Norton plays the role of a man who can't figure out what is wrong with his life. He can never sleep and never seems to love anything he does. One time though he has an encounter with a single serving friend (you'll find out about that when you see the movie if you haven't seen it yet) named Tyler Derden (Brad Pitt). He teaches him how everyone had a dream at one point or another but then after their dream fell through they would have to get a job they hated. So to break away from the society in which seems perfectly normal. Tyler and Edward decide to start a Fight Club. The movie is one of the best ever that has amazing twists and turns in the movie. One of the best movies ever. A must buy on iTunes

Fight Club is one of the greatest achievements of modern film making. It has a superb director who ties everything that happens in the movie together. This is one of those movies where a seemingly unimportnat even comes back at you and you realize it had everything to do with the twist at the end. This is one of the only movies I have ever seen that made eveything relate back to the ending. From the way that characters interact, to the the implications of the fights they have. This movie is a must buy!!

Everyone should see this. Period.

If you haven't seen this movie you NEED to, even though not everyone will like it. The storytelling, cinematography, acting, and jest about everything else pushes this past a film and more into a work of art. Men especially will relate to this movie, which is partly an examination of suppressed masculinity in the postmodern world.

great movie

This is in my top 3 favorite movies of all time. The movie is brilliantly adapted from the book. Norton and Pitt are phenomenal in this. The directing is amazing, and many lines come directly from the book. At first it seems like a movie about guys beating each other up (which, how can that be bad when it involves brad pitt shirtless?) but it's so much more. The psychological part of this movie leaves much for discussion. But if you are one of those people who want to just sit back and watch some cool action scenes, you can do that, too.

This is by far the greatest movie ever made, shedding some light on the most animalistic tendencies of humanity, and the fragile state of reality that we all live in. Dont just rent this movie, BUY IT!!!!

Absolutely perfect!!!

I will admit that when I first heard of Fight Club back in 1999, I was not at all interested, what could possibly be interesting in a movie about some guys hitting each other, right? And I don't mind admitting I was wrong. This movie is NOT about some guys fighting in a basement. This is about "not being the rock stars and movie stars they promised we were going to be". This is about the ability to find meaning in the strangest of places. This movie may very well be one of the smartest things produced by Hollywood in the 90's. A lot of philosophy masked in catchy phrases. Give this movie a shot, you won't regret it.

"Fight Club"...that's all you have to say. Nearly perfectly merges brutal beatings and clever social commentary in a real mind-trip of a film. Norton, Carter, and Pitt all turn in good performances. One thing, the revelation at the end of the film is so huge that it is virtually impossible to match the sensation of watching it the first time. I really wish that people obeyed the first two rules of fight club, because the secret was spoiled to me before I saw it. Keep that in mind: TYLER IS TALKING TO THE AUDIENCE WHEN HE SAYS NOT TO TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB. He's telling us this so we won't spoil the ending.

I am Jack's perfect movie

This movie is flawless. However, I will feel guilty buying this, because buying a movie on the internet and downloading it onto your ipod goes against pretty much everything this movie tries to teach you. And it is about time itunes got this. Now they just need American Psycho!

On of my all time favourites. Fight Club brings you on an action packed, psychological journey. The characters are so well developed, and the actors are top notch. Pitt, Norton, and Bonham Carter are perfect in this. I don't know how else to describe this movie except as totally B.A.

It's about time.
