Don't think to hard on this one. It is in a class by itself and one of the best movies ever.

If you have a great sense of mild humor you will love it.

After hearing everybody talk about this movie and how great it was, I decided to see it. I was hugely disappointed. It's so lame and boring, wish I could get that time back. The character development was atrocious, the plot was lame, it wasn't funny and simply didn't make sense. Probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

This is a must see and a top 100 film of all time. Amazing concept and nothing better all around for quotes.

This film is just so amazing, I shouldn't even have to convince you because its brilliance should be obvious when the names Joel coen, Ethan coen, Jeff bridges, John goodman, Steve buscemi, Julianne Moore and John tuturro are all affiliated with it. Just watch this masterpiece 3 times and I guarantee you will love it just as I do.

I love this movie, and have watched it maybe 8 times. Brilliant acting, writing, and, well, just plain funny. Movies don’t get better than this.

Anyway, before watching this movie I could’t believe that strong men cried, women could kidnap themselves and that the Germans would try to cut anyone's “chonson" off. What would we do without acid flashbacks?

Such a great work! So great, in fact, I felt like scanning the other reviews to see if I could find a negative one--and the one I found was so bad even THAT was funny (in a not-too-bright Donny sort of way.) One for the ages.

Great comedy. One of my all time favorite movies. The humor and jokes will never get old.

Although there's lots of weird and strange parts in The Big Lebowski (like a cowboy telling the story, for example) this movie still quite amusing! Of course there's more 'parts' in this movie to enjoy than the entire movie. Some characters like the Jesus, and Donnie and a few more people should've played bigger roles in the movie, though. Walter, on the other hand is one of my TOP FAVORITE characters in movies of all time, MAN!!!! He's just really a guy to laugh about!!

A classic cult film !!!

It's not a comedy; at least I didn't even get one laugh from it. I completely have no idea what this movie was trying to deliver, or what's the plot about - if there was remotely any plot at all.

My recommendation: stay away

I know that this movie could have been a lot better than it actually was. The Coen Brothers are smarter than this. The plot is so unstable that I could pick it apart more easily than a castle of legos. If they had developed the script more than they had done maybe I would have enjoyed this movie more. Look I'm not saying that it wasn't funny, what I'm saying is that it's funny, but it has a really bad plot. Even Dumb and Dumber had a better plot than this. If you're into the Coen Brothers or you're looking for a movie that has great characters, great comedy situations, but has a bad plot go ahead.

This movie has great actors turning in wonderful performances. The dialog is hilarious; the actors make the characters come alive despite their limited vocabulary (or, in Maude's case because of it). "The story is ludicrous." But when you've watched this movie several times you begin to see the little details that show you just how brilliant the writing is. Dialog that one character uses that gets paraphrased and reused later. Background set pieces become thematic in later scenes. You'll notice in the opening scene that The Dude writes a check, dating it September 11th, but the next day his landlord comes to him and reminds him that, "tomorrow is already the 10th." The Dude is exactly the type of character who would post-date a $.69 check for 1/2 & 1/2. It's those little touches that really show the Coen's brilliancy, and how much they really love this story.

I have no idea why I liked this movie, but I did. It is so out of this world crazy to the point where fondness just exists. Somewhere... And it is by the Coen bros, that says something right there!

Great movie, a classic, very entertaining and enjoyable. All the actors did a phenomenal job throughout the movie. Can't say enough good things. Each time I watch it the more I laugh and the more it grows on me.

Rented movie off iTunes for a movie night. No regrets what so ever. Not only did the movie download right to my device in a short time period, the movie was excellent. Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, and Steve Buscemi will have you entertained in side splitting laughter.

The Big Lebowski is to this day a worshipped comedy among fans young and old, and for good reason. Lebowski has what every comedy writer/director wishes they could achieve. It is clear that the Cohen brothers are extremely smart people, not only can they craft ingenious drama, but they could also make you laugh. Few filmmakers actually have this sort of flexibility, most stick to what they do best. The Cohen's balancing act is definitely evident in this film, considering that the characters are structured much like a drama. Lebowski showcases a troupe of some of the funniest characters in recent memory. The Dude is a modern legend. My favorite was John Goodman's Walter, there is literally nothing funnier than a unstable war veteran trying to make it through everyday life, Goodman nails it hilariously. Plus the mysteriousness of Donny and Jesus enrich the film with both comedic absurdity and fun speculation as to what those characters represent. I never quite enjoyed a film narrative as much as i did while watching The Big Lebowski. I've become an Achiever! After a couple of more watches, i should be able to attend the nearest Lebowski-Fest to celebrate it!

It may be a cult movie but it's a classic. It's so funny and raunchy that's what makes it funny.

Anyone who thinks this is a hilarious, 5 star, masterpiece, must have been drunk or high while watching it. It was strange, rambling, fairly boring, and heinously short on laughs. What a seriously over-rated yawn festival, and a waste of money on a rental.

Great movie, ever since I saw it a few years ago I thought this was one of the funniest and most original movies ever made, the story will keep you wondering what is going to happen next. The characters are as funny as they can get. I'm glad Itunes decided to add it. I highly recomend it, this one of those movies that will keep you thinking "what the (beep) is going on?"

Jeff and John are a sweet pair in this off the stick comedy about pretty much nothing. If you like strange comedy and great one liners then you will be right where you want to be. The humor is raw and deep, I really liked this flick, and the more I watch...... the more I like. Give it a blow, you will enjoy..

The funniest movie of all time! As stated by so many others, briliant writing and acting. The Coen Bros. movies are so character driven, and The Big Lebowski is their best at this. The Dude, the Jesus, Maude, Brant, and, of course, Walter, are the most definitive roles these actors will ever play. Just outrageously funny with the most quotable lines of any movie ever. And for those poor saps who only rated this movie one or two stars ("didn't get it"--"too much vulgar language"), well, that's just your opinion, man. You're out of your element!

This is definately one of the best movies ever made. When I was sixteen I worked at a pizza place and my boss would put this on literally EVERY night. It got better every time! "Take the four dollars man!"

This is one of the quirkiest and funniest films i've ever seen. John Goodman is totally different than i've ever seen him, and Jeff Bridges is also hilarious. If you want to laugh, watch this movie.( White Russians are actually horrible tasting.)

Impossible to describe, this Coen brothers masterpiece is easily the most quotable movie of all time. It is amazingly funny, yet never tries too hard to do so. An amazing cast, in perfect roles, and Jeff Bridges in my favorite character of all time. The best part of the film is its way to get funnier with each time you watch it, unlike most comedies that lose their appeal over multple viewings. If you haven't seen it, watch it. If you have, watch it again....

This is the funniest movie ever made. It is truly a masterpiece in its own right. If you want a sappy, predictable movie that you'll forget a few months after you watch it then go buy something else. there are so many quotable lines in this movie. it does tend to appeal more to guys than girls. i originally bought this movie in '99 and watched it every evening for 6 months. i wish it could be possible to come up with a part II but it would be hard for the coens to do better.

Quite simply, one of the greatest comedies of all time. The are so many amazing and memorable quotes. You could rent this movie, but for the price of $9.99, it's worth the purchase (if you have the hard drive space). It's such a layered comedy that you will want to watch (and enjoy) again and again.

The Big Lebowski gets bigger with every passing month of weak, poorly conceived and badly written comedies. It takes you to a place you actually want to be: surprised, engaged, laughing and empathizing with The Dude, Walter, Donny and all the other interesting people coming out of the woodwork. I swear, the moving just helps me get through it all. Take it easy, man!

Now while heroes usually don't curse, rarely lay around on a couch, are seldom alcoholic, and have never, until now, ever been so concerned about bowling tournaments, that does not mean that The Dude is anything less than that. He is a simple man with simple pleasures, and all he wants is a new rug because an unidentified man urinated on it when The Dude is msitaken for another Lebowski. Is that really too much to ask?
