Description

Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman play retired, down-on-their-luck outlaws who pick up their guns one last time to collect a bounty offered by the vengeful prostitutes of the remote Wyoming town of Big Whiskey. Richard Harris is an ill-fated interloper, a colorful killer-for-hire called English Bob, and Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner Gene Hackman is the sly and brutal local sheriff whose brand of law enforcement ranges from unconventional to ruthless.

It was a close call between this and Tombstone. But plain and simple, they just don't make them like this anymore. Acting is top notch. It's something you just want to watch over again. A nostalgic feeling and remembrance for the past will leave you wishing other westerns were made of this quality. A nod to Eastwood on a job well done!

Unforgiven is definitely the best Western movie from the last 40 years, and ranks among the Top 5 Westerns of all time. It has everything you would want from a Western- action, drama, and plenty of manly toughness. The only reason I wouldn't rank Unforgiven as the best all time Western is because the story line is based on revenge, although even that is carried out with a sense of right. Otherwise, Unforgiven is the real deal. It's a must for fans of the Western genre or movies in general.

Another great western pops up when I thought westerns had gone by the wayside, and who else can bring it, than Clint baby.
Great performance by Gene Hackman and of course everyone else.
But my favourite part is Richard Harris sharing his views on the difference between monarchy and democracy was classic. Enjoy folks.

This is the best western ever made because of the new feel to westerns it gave. This is a once in a lifetime movie and should be seen by everyone. It is the movie legend CLINT EASTWOOD at his best in directing, and acting! Absolutely Spectacular!

Definitely one of my favorites Eastwood portrays a man in desperate times. He gives fear in his weathered eyes and has the look of a rattle snake before a strike. An outlaw gone good then bad again. Freeman is on point and the voice of reason and partnership. You must see this movie

I'll be honest when I first saw this movie a while back I really loved it but I've watched it again recently and it seems like nothing special. The acting is kind of overdone and the plot feels simplistic. I still like it don't get me wrong but I don't think it's anything special and I definitely don't think it deserved all the awards it got. To this day I still think tombstone and high plains drifter are the best westerns.

I've seen all the great westerns...and this isn't one of them. I can't belive it has a 96% rating. Bizarre. It's not bad, but nowhere near worthy of critical acclaim as every other viewer below me suggests. Certainly a poor example of a classic western. I'm sorry Clint, you are Unforgiven for directing, producing and starring in this movie.

Unforgiven does for Westerns what Goodfellas does to the mafia, deglamourization. In Unforgiven, Clint East Wood brings film noir to the West, with no clear hero and many ambigious characters. Eastwood's character, William Munny, is the consequence of years of gunfighting and murders, a result of his previous role as The Man with no Name. Eastwood masterfully creates a world of the disillusined West, where the law has caught up to those free range spirits seen before in Wesern movies. Along with a stellar cast of Freeman, Hackman, and Harris, Unforgiven is one of the greatest Westerns and the best film of 1992.

The scene I can not get out of my mind is when Money leaves town after wiping everyone out. He is dressed all in black, there is thunder, rain, lightening, and he is riding a while stallion. Death himself, and the camera angles looking upwards. One of the most amazing scenes ever recorded on film.

Clint Eastwood seems to use this film as an apologetic concerning his older, blood-lust westerns. Instead of having the purposefully two dimensional characters of the classic western, you see the multiple aspects to the lives of each of the main characters, showing deeply flawed and complex individuals. Instead of men who never question the idea of taking a human life, every character is confronted with the question and the must come to his own decision. You will not be disappointed watching this film. It truly earned every award attributed it, and only continued to solidify Clint Eastwood's genius as an actor, director, and more. Buy this.

I grew up watching Clint Eastwood filims like The Good, Bad and Ugly and Fist Full of Dollars. Just finished watching Gran Torino. I really appreciate the differnce in his acting in these films. I see many action figures that had hits when they were young, making sequals as if they never aged. Clint Eastwood now plays an older man full of tough grit, not some young buck. Cudos to him for playing his age. Excellent western!!!

Clint Eastwood is a talented actor as well as director. Most importantly, he takes on risks. Such as his sequel to flags of our fathers with the equally respectful and understanding Letters from iwo jima, following the japanese side of the battle. so back in 1992 when the western was as good as gone, clint eastwood visits his roots from his spaghetti western days to create possibly his masterpiece, if not close to it. telling the story of a man drawn back into a life of violence, you see the contrasting scenery and plot. the natural beauty of rural kansas mixed with the brutality and violence that was the old west, and the truth behind the myths of dime novel sharpshooters. the strong characters and suspense of what will happen next will lead you to the end, where you'll shake your head in disbelief at how quick people change. that is all i can say. watch and enjoy what is a classic in cinema.

This is not an epic western. Unforgiven is an adult drama that simply transports you to the late 19th century west. Clint Eastwood's film was honored as Best Picture for its storytelling mastery, in every way. Gene Hackman is at his best! Eastwood just indulges his sense of style and experience with the western genre. Just sit back and enjoy a satisfying and realistic story.

William "Munny" gets an offer of "money" to avenge an act that had no personal consequence to him. In the process we see the tired "money is the root of all evil theme" played out over the course of the movie. Surprise, old Billy boy turns out to be not such a nice guy. What a plot twist. Really caught me off guard! You actually have to see this movie to understand how bad it is, so rent it and try not to fall asleep.

This movie is extremely powerful. Without giving too many spoilers, it shows a man struggling to make up his former life of evil who eventually slides back to his old ways to help his family and friends. It showcases the darker side of the glamorized Old West, and it drives home the point that no matter how good a person wants to be, sometimes it is impossible to escape who you are. To paraphrase "A World Without Thieves", if William Munny lived a hundred lives, he would still be an assassin. His struggle to deal with his destiny makes Unforgiven an action movie with some of the most powerful emotional moments you can find in the genre.

clint at his best.

It's hard to express all the great reasons I love this movie. Just as Silence of the Lambs was to horror, and Saving Private Ryan was to war movies, Unforgiven was to deconstructing the Western Myth Genre. Direction is purposeful and sparse, photography is beautiful, acting is perfect, writing is flawless, editing is excellent, set design is inspiring, and production is without measure. Like The Passion of the Christ, Unforgiven trancends it's makers and becomes a brilliant work that stands on it's own, not so much written and directed, but concieved and born.

I LOVE IT!

Why are they not selling this movie?! All the greatest movies are only for rent and the craptastic movies that no one wants to see are for sale. Any movie with 5 stars should be for sale. That being said... This movie will never be beaten as a western. The story is so legendary so real that you believe you are seeing a part of the past. Everything in this movie down to the moral codes and the breakdown of sanity over revenge are believible. William Money's little speech to the young gunslinger at the end sums up the reality of the world and makes you understand how and why things go terribly wrong sometimes. I urge people to see this film.
