You wouldn't think a movie so hilarious would actually have so much substance and a positive message to it. Helen (the main character) is living the good life. She lives in a mansion, has anything she desires. Her husband Charles, is a very prominent lawyer, pampers Helen uncontrollably, and the two have a very good marraige- or so she thought. They have a big fight after one of Charles' promotional dinners, and when they return home, Helen discovers that she has been replaced by a younger woman, and is literally being thrown out of her house. A moving truck arrives to pick her up, and the driver is Helen's cousin's friend, Orlando. He takes her to her closest relative, Ma'Dea (played by Tyler Perry), her aunt, who is living on house arrest, and her uncle Joe (played by Tyler Perry), who is basically alive thanks to his medications. For a while Helen, just mopes around the house, giving up any hope for continuing a normal life. Finally, after consistent persuasion, she gets a job as a waitress. One night she serves Orlando, who she considers to be a thug because of his gruff appearance (he isn't). Reluctantly, she talks with him, and before she knows it, finds herself falling in love with him after one month straight of eating dinner with him. Orlando helps Helen to become strong again, and she learns how to stand on her own two feet and become independent again. THen as Orlando is about to propose to her, she finds out that her now ex-husband, Charles has been shot by a client of his and is in critical condition. Without explaining, she rudely leaves Orlando and rushes to the hospital. Bizarrely, she nurses him back to health, and after getting all of the revenge out of her system, she finds herself falling in love with him again. (Orlando at this point has discontinued contact with Helen). Helen debates which of the two men she wants to be with, and finally, she comes to her senses and marries Orlando. Diary of a Mad Black Women has an excellent plot and a wonderful moral to it. You will just have to take my word and buy this movie to see how funny it is.
