This film crosses a dimension of human existence that is usually considered unimportant in films. But it shows how we think and feel. I loved every breath-taking minute.

Miranda July's second film, "The Future," inspired me to watch "Me and You and Everyone We Know," her first. Both films are funny, heartfelt, and sharply observed. There's a hint of cosmic subtext in the first that becomes full blown in the second. July is a true original and working on her own wavelength. Anyone with an ounce of sensitivity could not fail to be touched by her films. These knuckleheads who don't get it should stick to "Transformers."

Great movie. Whoever thought this sucked and said it was unrealistic must live under a rock or had a boring childhood/didn't have the brain cpapacity to understand this.

Every scene in this movie is unique and its sensibility is entirely gracious and honest. You will see things you never imagined but you know must have happened.

Horrible.

Um, did I get the wrong movie? Because this movie was horrific. Horribly horrific. I'm not sure if it was a case of trying to hard to be creative, indie, what have you... but this movie was a flippin' trainwreck.

I'll tell You and Everyone I know: Don't see it!

I think the characters were all interesting, the acting is great, and the photography is very good; but the movie presents many unnecessary situations to get nowhere, all of them very well intertwined.
I read reviews refering to this movie as a comedy, and I wonder if I saw a different movie with the same name.
Not entertaining, actually quite disturbing.
I would not recommend this movie to You or Anybody I know. The more I think about it, the less I like it.

Absolutely amazing movie!

So I have owned this movie for a few years now and I truely love it every time I watch it. A good tip is to do a little research in the life of Miranda July and you will understand the movie a lot better. It is slow paced, with interesting characters, but once you realize the views of each character and what they are actually thinking you really feel for them and realize the innocence in each of them. Me and my friends so named this movie "The POOP Movie!" and you will understand this once you watch it. It makes me laugh every time.

If you gave this movie anything lower then 4 stars, you truly didn't appreciate it or understand the meaning behind the film. This is a MUST SEE and a MUST HAVE. Enough said.

Miranda July is a true genius!

Miranda July, the writer/director and star of this film, puts together pieces like no other! She's so multi-talented and works between countless numbers of mediums, like music, video, performance, and especially writing. So obviously this film goes beyond normal conventions. It's humorous, yes, but also deeply emotional and sensitive. She taps into the subconscious, our fears, our dreams, and our struggle to manage ourselves in relation to the rest of the world. It's a beautiful film, some say "simple", but the complexity isn't on the outside. Less is more.

This movie, although unusual in subject, is an examination of the human experience. This film probes and examines modern culture and its impact on traditional lifestyles, and how these changes can pervert or improve our lives.

this movie was terrible. it really sucked. it was over-symbolic and nothing was realistic. it was basically like "life realizations for dummies". those about as deep as a paper plate might enjoy this movie immensely.

I love it.

This is a slow moving but heartfelt film following several unique characters of all ages and situations in their individual but similar quests for true emotional intimacy with another person. It is sad, funny, moving, and slightly creepy in a good way. It is not a particularly exciting film, but I think it will resonate with a lot of people, especially people who feel alienated. If you want a thoughtful, emotional drama that steers clear of Hollywood cliches, check this one out.

so if I'm supposed to "praise movies on their own terms" - that just seems a very kindergarten "lets hold hands" and pretend there nothing wrong with this movie and the hype... I liked miranda juy when she was a songwriter - but this was just todd solondz with a serious dose of pretense - sappy one sided characters - it just made me feel like I was trapped in a plywood panelled room in northeast philly and humus ... and not the phony garlic flavored kind, either... i simply found it self indulgent and bland... i was VERY disappointed and I think it was the first time I ever wanted my $5 from an independent movie - i don't care if I saved $3 - I should've gone to see Spiderman.

This movie tried way too hard to be really indie. It succeeded in doing so, and the movie was lost somewhere in the process. The plot situations are more than absurd, and they are not meant to be really funny, they are meant to be artsy, and it doesn't work. It could be a funny movie if taken with a grain of salt, but I don't think that is how it was intended to be viewed, so it is just a really bad movie.

I love movies. I know a huge amount about all movies, known and unknown to the masses. I am quite open minded. I thought this was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It's not kitchsy. It's not amusing. It's not even unique or innovative. Just really awful.

Honestly, I love movies and I have never been so bored watching a movie. If I could return it to Itunes store I totally would. I think that it is an attempt at the six degrees of separation and it is done very poorly. I was tempted to fast forward many times in the middle of viewing this movie. I felt like I was watching a serious Napoleon Dynamite.

Fantastic movie, in the vein of old Hal Hartley (Trust, Unbelievable truth).
Seriously if you don't at least respect this movie for being creative then your just one of those douches that find fault with everything cause you just have to.

While this film is eloquent and charismatic at times, the symbolism is sometimes overwrought and the plot and characters rather forgetable. The characters do explore "taboo" subjects-but in a way that is neither particularly groundbreaking nor enlightening. It's a nice movie, but the truthful, human moments are too often jumbled up among forced scenes and average encounters.

Brave, Unique Story

Miranda makes us focus on simple truths. Her idea of a hero, her theme of a love conquest, and her powerful reminder of how unique we all are despite our shared human nature, are all submersed in the artistically portrayed cycles of action and reaction between the characters in this film. They are all real people, people who resemble who we are. This film reminds us to look around us in our own conquests for hope, understanding, love, and inspiration. The answers to our questions in life are often a lot closer and less dazzling to us than we may think, and the lessons learned while seeking them will help us grow closer to who we want to be.

I went to see this film after all my friends said that it was remarkable. However, I was greatly dissapointed. Sure it was creative, but at the same time I was constantly thinking about WHY these characters were doing what they were doing and I just didn't get it. I think there is an audience for this film, but I don't think its for the everyday movie goer

A simple, great film

I heard great things about Miranda July as a performance artist in the Pacific Northwest. This is her feature film debut, and it is a great one. The characters are strange and situations sometimes become very uncomfortable (and brush borders of taboo subjects) but is also hysterical. The performances she gets out of the kids in this film are amazing, and when seeing this at the Seattle International Film Festival, there were times when everyone around me was laughing til they cried. It's a simple movie, dealing with very specific people (strange only in a way most people secretly are)... and I highly recommend it.
