This movie is one of our families favorite to watch at Christmas. I was very disappointed that this purchase didn't include both versions of the movie. The version with the extended scenes is the best which this unfortunately didn't include. I would love to get a refund but apparently that isn't possible. The movie with extended scenes is a 5 star, this version is 3 stars in my opinion.

Belle’s song “When Love is Gone” is a critical scene. It fleshes out more of what Ebenezer sacrificed for his greed, and the closing song is a counterpoint to it. Disney: Please fix this egregious oversight. Please include the scene in the next BluRay release of this movie. You’ll sell a ton of them. I won’t pay for this movie until it is sold complete.

I own the VHS and blu ray copies of this fantastic movie but I am sad to say that they have cut out "when love is gone" from the blu ray version and many other versions, it's not apples fault they were given this version of the film to sell, the song was apparently cut because Disney thought that the song wouldn't appeal to kids.
Growing up watching the VHS version (which had the song) I did not like the song that much, but as I grew older I developed an appreciation for it and it's beauty. I realize now how much more the song adds to the movie. Disney needs to release a version of the film that has the song, also apple needs the get the soundtrack...

I remember seeing this movie as a kid. I would watch it religiously every other night during the week leading up to Christmas day with Hot Chocolate and ginger snaps. Every song, every laugh, and every lesson never get old.
If you’re looking to show your kids something great for Christmas, you just can’t beat this movie. The acting is superb (Michael Caine is without a doubt a superb Scrooge-and no matter how many other Scrooges I see on the big screen, they will always be compared in my mind to Caine’s performance), the songs and the score are catchy and inspiring, and the movie never loses a beat. As Rizzo says at the end, “Nice Story Mr. Dickens.” To which Gonzo (Dickens) replies, “Oh Thanks, if you like this you should read the book.” You and your kids will love this movie, and it’ll become an instant classic in your home during the holiday season. We have watched this movie for years as a Christmas tradition. Loan our VHS to someone and it was never returned, so we thought we would just purchase it from iTunes. Our tradition has been destroyed with the omission of one of the essential songs and themes of the movie, "When Love is Gone."

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! Im 24 and I watch it whenever it on television. Then this year I found it at KMart and bought it. The one thing I didnt like about the movie whenever I watched it in the past was the song "The Love is Gone". I just thought it went on and on and on! When I watched the movie this time I watched the widescreen version and when it was getting to the part I was plesantly surpised to find it just skipped over it. I love this movie. Song or not people need to get over it and give it 5 stars. You will never find a better Christmas movie. When I have kids they will have the joy of watching this every year like i did.

I am a very lucky girl, having own this movie on VHS. I am a Muppet collector, which means I search everywhere I can for a trace of anything Muppet. When I was at a yard sale that my friends' softball team set up, I was browsing at videos and I found "The Muppet Christmas Carol". I had bought it and I watched it instantly. I laughed and cried. Honestly, this itunes version doesn't have the song "When Love is Gone", which doesnt bother me cause its not one of my favorites. A must have!!!

Five stars for the movie... 2 stars for iTunes... 6th movie I've bought from iTunes and they all without exception have something left out... Some are part of the main plot! This movie, the song where scrooges girlfriend walked out is missing... That music is played throughout the movie so when you take out the song you blow the context!!! Cmon iTunes, the song was 2 min. long...

I love this movie! There's no reason to change it.

The Muppet Christmas Carrol is a classical movie about the importance of Christmas. Most fans agree the best song in the movie is "The Love is Gone". I was rather disapointed to find out the song: "The Love is Gone" was removed from the movie. It was wrong to not inform buyers the missing scene from the movie and demand full price without proper notification.

So glad iTunes added this, so I can watch it wherever. But who are these people who like 'When Love is Gone', the worst song in the film? It was eliminated in the widescreen version of the film, which was a relief to my family, since we'd worn out that section of our VHS copy fast-fowarding through it. Glad to see the digital version doesn't include that terrible scene, although Michael Caine singing is pretty hilarious.

I was watching this last night during a blackout and noticed for the first time that "The Love is Gone" is missing. Yes, it's true. That important scene when Scrooge's fiancee sings "When Love is Gone" is, indeed, missing from this version, but it's not true that iTunes cut the scene. This version is the widescreen theatrical version, which does NOT have the scene to begin with. If you want the version with that scene, you need to get the fullscreen version (aka the extended version). The recent DVD re-release of Muppet's Christmas Carol (2006 Anniversary Edition) includes both the fullscreen and widescreen versions of the film, and it's only on the fullscreen version that the love song is included. Unfortunately, what this means is that there is no widescreen version of this wonderful movie with that all-important scene. If you want to see it, you have to go with fullscreen. Apple didn't intentionally cut that beautiful part of the movie out--the only mistake was that they only offer the widescreen version for purchase. While that is usually preferable, in this case where it's the extended fullscreen edition that everybody wants and is familiar with, they should have bought the rights for the fullscreen version. Aside from the love song issue, this movie is absolutely enchanting. I watched it multiple times when I was a child (to the point where I memorized the dialogue verbatim), and I bought the DVD re-release last Christmas (the 2006 Anniversary Edition) and was pleasantly pleased to find that it was still fresh and enjoyable. It could still tug at my heart strings the way it did when I was a girl. This movie's an absolute joy to watch, and Michael Caine is fantastic. It's surprisingly faithful to the book (which will appeal to adults), but it has the humor, levity, music, and the muppets that will appeal to children. The movie is fantastic, but take care to make sure you buy the version you're looking for. The fullscreen extended version has the love song and the widescreen theatrical version does not.

Concerning the missing song...

 –
Justin "The Claw"
 –
2007-02-27
I'd just like to clear up this up for future reviewers...
The song "When Love Is Gone" was not included in the theatrical cut of the film due to pacing issues. It was included as a special feature in the pan & scan releases of the film (on VHS and DVD), but since the widescreen version (featured here and on the recently release special edition DVD) was probably taken from the original film reels of the theatrical cut, the song would have been left out.
I hope this satisfies any curiosity about the missing scene.

To all those complaining about the missing scene

 –
David Luzader
 –
2007-02-24
If you were to go out and buy this movie on DVD, you would find that the same scene is missing there too. The fact is, very few people liked the song and the studio saw no reason to keep it in. I think it flows better without that scene and I find it still as enjoyable as I did when I was a kid.
It is one of the best versions of the story that anyone can really enjoy. It is one of the original muppet movies, and the added talent of Micheal Caine just makes this movie classic. If you want something you can share with family and friends alike for all the years to come, then pick up this movie.

A classic film seen as it was in theatres.

This is a wonderful movie. I love every moment in the film. I should add somthing about the film though. Many people have been complaining about the lack of the song "when love is gone" from the movie. This is because the film did not originally have this song. It was cut in theatres. They added the song to the VHS of the film, hence why it is not on the widescreen version of the DVD either. That is also why iTunes does not warn about the cut either.

Why is it so highly priced?

I can't believe iTunes released this movie! everyone should download it, because it is without a doubt the best christmas movie EVER. Sure the Grinch is good, and rudolph is great, and everybody loves Frosty, but a Muppets Christmas Carol takes the cake. It brings the old classic into a fun and innovative light, different to what I'm sure your used to. If your looking to bring back the kid in you this holiday season, you've found the right movie.

This is a fantastic telling of one of the most beloved Christmas stories ever written. After seeing this version, I can't imagine anyone but Michael Caine playing Scrooge. He really shines in this role and his singing is a rare treat. As for the Muppets....Long live Jim Henson and his beautiful vision of the kind of world where we would all have a friend as faithful and true as Kermit. Great music, great acting and a movie that kids as well as adults will love. This is a "must see" during the holiday season.

I'm the type who has to experience "A Christmas Carol" every year, whether as a movie, a play, or the original book. I'm hooked, and I have been for decades. So, when I say that this is one of the best versions I've ever seen, it means something.
"The Muppet Christmas Carol" has everything: the warmth, the humor, the chills, the sadness, the hopefulness, everything.
Michael Caine does a wonderful job as Ebenezer Scrooge, and Kermit the Frog (of all people) is actually a very believable Bob Crachit. Gonzo the Great does a bang-up job playing Charles Dickens as the narrator. The Ghosts are beautifully created and performed, as we've come to expect from the Muppet puppet designers. The dialog is generally faithful to the book, with appropriate humorous asides from the various cast members. The musical numbers are catchy. Everything combines to make watching this a very enjoyable experience.
If you like or love "A Christmas Carol," you owe it to yourself to own this movie. Get it; you won't be sorry.

The Muppet Christmas Carol has been one of my favorite holiday films since it was released in theaters. For a Dickens college course term paper, I wrote about film adaptations of A Christmas Carol (when I told the instuctor this she asked if I was going to be viewing this film and it was already on my list of films). From research, I found that this is one of the most faithful adaptations to the book, mostly due to the inclusion of Dickens played by Gonzo. After watching the film for the paper, I had all the songs stuck in my head for the following week (and this was in April/March). When I saw that the film was avaliable on iTunes, I immediatly bought it. However, one of my favorite songs, "When Love is Gone," has been removed from this version (hence the four star rating). Overall, I am happy with my iTunes purchase but would have prefered to have the song included.

It's not christmas without it!

My sister and I watch this movie every holiday season. It warms our hearts, makes us laugh, and gets us in the spirit each year without fail. Michael Caine is the ultimate Scrooge, and the rest of the roles are perfectly cast as well (Hello, Gonzo as Charles Dickens!). The production design somehow maintains the victorian feel of Dickensian London while being true to the muppet aesthetic. Some really festive music, too.
Best viewed with hot chocolate, a warm fireplace, family and the young-at-heart.

Awesome!!!!!

Having read the book, I was surprised to see how true to Dickens this version of the story really was! and Hilarious to have Gonzo be Dickens and tell the story!
FYI, though, the DVD of this has this widescreen version, and it also has the full screen extended version which contains the "When Love Is Gone" song sung by Belle when she says goodbye. This iTunes version probably does not include that song.

This is played as a tradition at our house while putting up the tree(not a whole lot gets accomplished). As mentioned in the other reviews, it is chock full of humor for adults and children while maintaining the integrity of the original story. Christmas just wouldn't be christmas if I did not see this movie!!!

It just isn't Christmas without the Muppets! I'm happy that this movie has been released on iTunes. I remember seeing this movie when it first came out in theatres and absolutely falling in love with it. Michael Caine is the ultimate Scrooge, and he along with all of the human actors play well with the Muppets and are truly memorable. The performances of all of the puppeteers, too, are terrific, especially Dave Goelz as Gonzo and Steve Whitmire in his first movie performance as Kermit. And, oh, the music! The songs are absolutely wonderful and never get cheesy, and the score is simply beautiful. If you like the Muppets, Christmas, or just hilarious and heartwarming movies, get this!

A CHRISTMAS CLASSIC

I LOVE THIS MOVIE! First of all, it filled with clever humor for adults and cute puppets for the kids. Second, the music is absolutely fantastic! Paul Williams was at his best writing this festive and catchy music. Michael Caine is a phenomenal Scrooge and it is amazing how seriously he takes his role even as he is surrounded by Muppets. "The Muppet Christmas Carol" has been a part of my Christmas movie-watching tradition for my whole life, and it will be forever!

If you liked older movies of this Charles Dickens classic, you'll love this one. As heartwarming as it is funny, it's fun for all ages. The songs in the movie are very catchy and the Muppets peform their roles with great comedy and fun. This is a must have for anyone.
