A lot of people say this was a horrible movie or that it had nothing to do with d&d. It went through multiple locations in faerun the setting for a lot of d&d campaigns. It uses spells and feats from 5e constantly. As and as a d&d fan when you sit back you can see this movie is a perfect representation of what happens in a d&d game. You can see the players failing persuasion rolls or losing concentration on spells. Accidentally setting off traps and causing chaos while at the same time coming up with crazy solutions to their problems, oh your trapped in a small room about to be eaten by a dragon? Looks like a tpk, well what if we just blow the room up? There’s good acting with only one actually cringy part when the little girl turns into the red wizard, there’s really funny moments as well, when Simon lost concentration on his illusion spell and you see Chris pine singing then stuttering then melting/expanding into nightmare fuel. Not only was that hilarious it changed how losing concentration is played out in my group’s campaign.

In short, the movie is great but don’t go in expecting some high fantasy serious movie like lord of the rings. This is a lot closer to the first guardians of the galaxy in a healthy and vibrant d&d setting. This is one of three movies since covid hit that I whole heartedly enjoyed.

So glad to see this great film in theatre. Lots of fun. Great story. Great production. Great cast. Highly recommended!

Not paying $19.99 to rent a movie, I'll wait until the price drops.

This was the best movie I’ve EVER SEEN!!! It was hilarious a few swears with 3 jump scares but otherwise it rocked.

The people who made this movie truly approached it as a labor of love, and it shows. It’s clever, funny, and incredibly insightful, with a big serving of grandiose adventure!

We were very much looking forward to this show, only to be very disappointed. Truly, a surprising and long-winded waste of time. What the heck happened to these "actors"? Chris Evans sleep walks through the entire movie "acting" (if that's what you can call it) like some self-impressed gomer---so weak! Truly a lame performance. And the dude from Bridgerton---just as bad, although in fewer scenes. Producers, Directors and studios need to stop pandering to the egos of "big name" actors unless they really can act. Don't believe the hype---I cannot imagine how anyone rated this "fresh." Truly a waste of money and time.

I have tried to love all the prior D&D movies. There’re some excellent moments in each prior effort. But this is the first time it was knocked out of the park. Bravo to the cast, each of which had their pick of material for their star power. Can’t say thank you enough. I am hoping for this to be the start of something new. I was happy to pay full price, which is rarer and rarer.

A fun throwback to 80s style fantasy movies that weren’t so serious. Think The Princess Bride and Willow, and you get the idea. Really enjoyed it, and it’s my kids’ new favorite movie. Hoping for a sequel :)

saw this in theaters. it was a lot of fun. lots of good moments and laughs. a must see for DnD fans and geeks in general.

Strict parents growing up and was never allowed to play the game so I cannot offer a review in that manner. However I loved every bit of the cast. I feel like they had great chemistry and the movie was a lot of fun. Considering purchasing as I can see myself watching this repeatedly because of all the humor!

This is an example of what's been missing in modern movies. It's just fun (and hilarious) without trying too hard to make a point beyond a more universal message of friendship and family.

Pay attention, Disney. You're trying too hard.

Great movie I was genuinely impressed, I play DND a little bit but am not in a hardcore group I could see my party having similar interactions during some of the more comedic events .

Better than I expected. Incorporates creatures that I encountered in the 80’s. Good humor mixed in throughout the story.

Saw this movie in theaters and all I can say is wow! every aspect of this movie was so perfectly executed! The cast was perfect, the story was perfect, the pacing and plotting, the visuals, everything! Highly recommend!!

This is surprisingly a great film. Absolutely beautiful designs and emotional character arc. Hope that the studio understands that the first one might take a hit, and keep the sequel plans developing for future returns.

Just a note about the special effects: modern movie viewers have “seen it all” when it comes to computer imagery…or have they? D&D has some of the most unique and entertaining effects I’ve seen in a long time, and they don’t feel forced. They add nicely to the storyline. One of my favorites- the chubby dragon!

I play D&D but watched this with four others that have never even thought of doing so (including my 60 year old mother) and we all loved it. The story and humor are for everyone but the Easter eggs for those of us that play are littered throughout, and only enrich an already fantastic film.

Highly recommended.

I took the whole family. Half knew nothing about D&D, both everyone loved it!

This movie was great. Funny, action packed with great effects and even sad in parts. Can’t wait for the sequel!!

To actually get a D&D movie w/o a Wayan's brother in it! And set in the Forgotten Realms, with references to almost all it's titular characters ... (a Minsc or Drizz't reference would have been nice, but always hoping for a sequel!) And to have a Lord Neverember inclusion ... well, let's just say I've been playing Neverwinter MMORPG for almost 10 years. And if you've ever played it, you'll know that char. Protector's Enclave.

I haven't played D&D since 3rd edition as PNP ... but started out with 1st edition boxed. Really love how on-line gaming (not to mention graphics) have come along so far so fast.

It was really nice to find the hidden references (doubt I've found most of them) to both PNP and MMORPG versions of D&D.

Yep, saw yesterday this was coming to VoD today. I got $25. Wife really has no interest, but loved the movie in theater. And now, I have something to enjoy again and again.

Not an Influencer, not a 'Paid Promotion', not anything but a 54 year old lifelong D&D enthusiast that held higher hopes for the previous D&D live action movies ... and if they never do another better than this, I am finally satisfied.

I heard this was good but never took the time to go see it in the movies. I didn’t know it was so good I should have gone to see it in the cinemas for the visual effects and dolby sound.

As someone who’s been playing D&D for many years now, I had the chance to see this movie at an advanced screening. I went with five friends, two were people that also play and three were people that had never played it at all. This movie had something for all of us. For us longtime players, we loved all the references and how relatable the situations compared to our own experiences in game. For those who didn’t play it’s a fun fantasy adventure movie with an amazing cast that has so much going on beneath the surface. The movie’s message is of found family and what we would do to help those people. My only complaint is that the movie isn’t longer.

As someone who does not play d&d this movie was absolutely fantastic. It was highly accessible to those who do not play and even more enjoyable for those who do! The story is amazing, the characters are lovable and honestly the use of practical effects was very appreciated. Must have movie!

Fun lighthearted fantasy film. It probably won't satisfy everyone, but, even as I recognize the movie's flaws, it really hit the spot for me overall. I already watched it more than once in the theaters, and I'm sure this will be one of those movies where I can say most of the lines along with the movie.

I grew up loving D&D, and this movie had absolutely nothing to do with D&D. I like the actors who were in this film, but this story was very boring. I wanted to get up to leave but hoped it would get better… spoiler alert, it did not!

Pirates of the Caribbean meets Dragon Ball Z meets How to Train Your Dragon. I absolutely love this movie!

My two teenagers and I saw this in The theater. It was not very good and not very bad. A good way to waste some time and then forget it. There were no really funny lines or interactions and nothing really imaginative. In a universe as diverse and creative as D and D, I expected a lot more. Considering the talent of the actors, I should give it no starts. You could tell they were even bored making this movie.

I can’t wait to see how they do the sequel to the movie!

I've never once played D&D and have no idea what the object of the game is, but none of that made a difference as to my enjoyment of this movie. The characters are great, there is plenty of humor, and the battles are pretty great. To top it all off, the Dolby Atmos audio - at least in theaters - was top notch! I highly recommend seeing this movie regardless if you're a die hard D&D player or not.

I expected a sappy story with rough characters and lame humor. I was pleasantly surprised at the execution! Great character development, smart humor, and great special effects. Definitely made for home theater though. Worth the watch!
