Praise Odin! If you are a fan of the actual
Viking history and mythology this is the movie for you. The director had 4 historians consulting on this movie and shows. It is by far Robert Eggers most accessible movie while also including amazing cinematography and symbolism. Also it highlights the violence of the time without glorifying it. 10/10 would recommend.

Great trailer. Mediocre movie

Amazing actors. Good dialogue. Super slow plot. This movie is so dull and unexciting; it’s like watching Braveheart after you’ve taken a bunch of melatonin.

Northern Tale of Legends and Myth

Robert Eggers masterfully weaves an epic, inspired by the legend of Amleth. If you appreciate the history of Northern Europe, Northern European mythology, or you miss stories of strong heroes and great men you should see this movie. This film explores the positive traits of fatherhood, the honor between a father and son, the destiny of strong men, the mystical and wise nature of great women, and the cold power of the unforgiving lands of the North. It's inspiring, disturbing, exciting, and impactful.
As for the negative reviews here, whether they're explicitly stating it or not they do echo the sentiments of people who seem to hate this movie because of the cultures it represents and the archetypes it explores. I would dismiss their uninformed gripes and vague complaints as misandry and possibly racism.

Masterfully filmed by Robert Eggers, who is quickly becoming one of the hallmark auteur directors of our era, it has everything you’d want in a brutal art house Viking epic while telling an old tale in a fresh, visually and audibly fascinating way.
I won’t ramble but the actors were all top notch and Alexander Skarsgård put in a career defining performance, he really put in the work to make that character feel real and it really pays off. Same could be said for all the actors. With the brilliant script, score, acting and filmmaking at work it all gels together into an immersive and believable experience. Worth a rent but if you’re a fan of Vikings, Conan, Gladiator, fantasy genre in general, etc.. you’ll love it buy it!

This movie is mystical, dark, and super violent. I’m not surprised at all that some people don’t like this movie. That said, I absolutely love it! The attention to historical accuracy is insane and the performances and cinematography are incredible! This feels like one of the sagas come to life and I was enthralled by every minute of it. If you haven’t seen it yet don’t expect a normal action/revenge flick. The closest movie I can think to equate it to is The Green Knight though a bit less weird and a lot more blood. This movie is really something special and we need more like it.

I watched this theaters & like many I couldn’t wait to own it. I definitely recommend watching this in theaters first because it’s an AMAZING film to experience in RPX, & because we need to support more original films. This movie was new & innovative & unless we support it, Hollywood will just keep making remakes.

The Northman is a very loud and an extremely wild movie from start to finish. It gets going almost immediately and hardly ever slows down with the brutality. There really isn’t a single uplifting moment in this entire film as it is literally filled with screaming, killing, and fighting.

I was so excited to see this in the theaters. I really wanted to like it. There was so much potential for it as well. I suppose I was expecting more of an Epic. It has amazing visuals, and great acting. The story does seem to be true to the period. It aligns with beliefs and traditions during that time, which of course also means quite a lot of violence. The story suffers a bit due to pacing. At times it I felt like it was trying to say more, or provide some sort of lesson that is often attributed to myths and legends. But, I was over thinking it. I realized while it may have been trying to say something, it ended up not saying much at all. Frankly, it was a bit of a let down. I cannot see wanting to watch this again, bc it’s not very re-watchable.

I’ve loved the Viking show and when it first came out and I fell in love with this movie right when I heard the Alexander Skarsgard was going to start it. This movie is epic! Its historically accurate, its incredible to look at, all the set pieces and all the costumes and know that this is pretty accurate. This is a window view into the Viking age and it’s quite an amazing experience I saw in the theaters twice and I highly recommend this film granted this is a drama doesn’t have the most action so for someone that may want something with a little more kick to it, I probably wouldn’t recommend this movie for you but for someone like me who wants to learn about the Viking culture who wanted an idea of what that world was like this is the perfect movie for you and I highly recommend it.
