The whole film I kept wanting to see more of Monet’s work, I felt like I was in a competition between the photographer and Monet with Monet getting short changed. As an artist I typically will view a canvas at a distance then walk up to it to see detail of the painter’s technique, then finally stepping back again to enjoy the totality of the work. The director and photographer seemed transfixed with making their movie as impressionistic as Monet’s work, never taking in even one canvas an artist would. Just one brief impression jumping to another without a proper display of any canvas. The very end we were permitted to see what his final masterpiece looked like. Pretty dissappointing.

Amazing film

I’m particularly fond of impressionism, and always liked Monet’s water lilies. But I knew little of his life, or of the meaning behind his monumental works. Learning of his struggles and what he was expressing in his paintings done in the midst if WW I was a revelation. Anyone who loves art will find this a rewarding and amazing film.
