I love thrillers!!! Acting was fine but storyline went nowhere. It made no sense to me at all. Was it one big hallucination. Kept waiting for something big to happen. The ending explained nothing. Wasn’t worth my time or the $5.00 rental. Can you tell.........I just didn’t like it👎

One star for the acting

Both actors were stellar in this film. Unfortunately the story couldn’t support them. Yet another film that leaves you wondering how rotten tomatoes can over inflate ratings.

I watched this b/c the trailer looked good. The acting was good and I’ll stop there with the compliments.
My biggest problem with phycological art films, is that they refuse to explain if something is real or not, leaving room for the old “it was all a dream trope...” at which point I have to ask, then why are we here? Why did I waste I over 2 hours of my life for you to NOT tell me a story? As far as I’m concerned, EVERYTHING that happened in this film, didn’t happen, because the movie refused to confirm it. As far as I’m concerned, the main character ate some bad ham and is having a head trip in his grandmas patio... the end. Just saved you $5.99.

I guess I’m just some uncultured troll, but this movie seems to be nothing more than two guys yelling at each other for the whole movie. It’s rare that I turn a movie off without finishing it, but this is absolutely horrible. This piece of crap makes Sharknado look like Ben Hur.

rightly recall the last movie I identified as being the lousiest movie I've ever watched, only that this was worse. This was so bad it's unforgettable. Were I to live to the year 2100 and someone says' this or that' movie is as bad as it gets, I'll reply, 'nope, back in 2020 there was this movie called The Lighthouse...'

Excellent, quirky movie

For those who may be feeling uncertain regarding which experiences are reality and which are hallucinations, it doesn’t matter. You either have two guys going simultaneously crazy or the lighthouse is possessed. Either way, you arrive at the same end point. This movie is highly atmospheric and represents some of the finest acting in recent filmmaking. The plot is thought-provoking and tends to haunt after seeing. Recommended!

I'm not normally one for slow, thought-provoking films such as The Lighthouse. However, Dafoe and Pattinson's stellar performance coupled with the bleak, unsettling atmosphere of this film make it a film very much worth the watch.

The Lighthouse is a simple enough film with a very linear plot. The acting is tremendous, however, this is nothing spectacular. The use of the sailor dialect was unique, and yet that’s the extent of the writing prowess in this film. It’s not a terrible watch, and if this goes on sale, it’d be decent accompanied with a strong beverage or two.

Cinematically it was beautifully filmed. Performance-wise Dafoe + Pattinson both an A+. Story-wise it was confusing, and I do love a thinking-man’s film and script with twists and turns but the script is confusing and hard to follow and left me with a conclusion that makes absolutely no sense unless of course you enjoy staying up at night speculating on what you think the ending meant. It was trying to be Hitchcock and had hints of it but in the end no one can separate from dream/fantasy from reality. I left the theatre genuinely annoyed. It was like wanting that last slice of pepperoni pizza after drinking with friends all night + then someone grabs the slice — frustrating. This is not an “own” film and at the very best only a rental.

Some review complained about this movie being hard to figure out what is real and what isn’t, I never had that issue. It’s a movie about two guys stranded on an island, eventually they both become delusional and the director did a great job of make the movie become more and more crazy. The black/white, birds and other themes reminded me of an Alfred Hitchcock movie. Is this movie outstanding? No, but it was entertaining.

Two Lighthouse Keepers losing Their Freaking Mindset at face value may not be much but the Director of The Witch makes this more Intricate! Anyone who is more into Avengers Endgame and Shazam adventures will probably be bored to tears with this one, but it’s more for the Thinking man movie seer! The End of the movie may Scar you for life!

Yes, the cinenamtogorophy, acting and writing were wonderful. Problem was, I didn't have any idea what was real, imagined, or an hallucination. Some may love unanswered questions that capture the imagination. Me? I need a little more meat on the bone.

The Witch was a powerful opening statement from Eggers. This is just incoherent art house garbage, disguised as a salty sea tale. Never have I seen a starker example of the emperor's clothes. Apparently, I'm not smart enough to enjoy this film, my punishment is that I never have to watch this wreck again.

I really liked it, but the millenials with 0 attention span and wondering where the special effects were walked out. The cinematography is incredible, as is the acting. It's not a mystery. It's not a horror movie. It's the spellbinding story of two men facing a really harsh environment, and one of them is nuts. Or is he? Which one? Lots of symbolism. Very existential.

The Lighthouse is packed with “what?’s”. You are never quite sure what is real, what is imagined, what did you see, and what is going on with the light and the birds. It’s creepy, funny, and absurd but truly a fabulous movie and nothing like you’ve seen before.

It’s one of those “love it or hate it” type of movies. I’m on the loving side. The tight black and white shots Along with a strong William Dafoe (nothing unusual) performance and a surprising Robert Pattinson (I’ll stop calling him Edward Cullen after this one). I won’t spill the beans, check it out and you won’t be disappointed.

The Lighthouse stars Robert Pattinson and William Defoe. Both actors have career bests in this film. Everything about this film is supurb, right down to every nail in the set design. i cant praise this film enough. it is beautifuly haunting and every frame is a painting. this film is very unsettling and digs deep into your soul. while honestly being the funniest film ive seen this year. 5/5.

Willem Dafoe!!!

Never in my life have I wanted to see a film so many times so endlessly. Amazing performances from Pattinson and Dafoe that defy what most film watchers expect, and the suspense keels over you like a rolling tide. A definite watch for anyone who loves Bergman and being scared of the impossible.

I was fairly surprised how heavy this hit me. Opening scene just feels like doom itself is descending onto you. It feels very much like you’re the one losing your grip on what’s real and what’s not, maybe I’m just relating to the characters? That’s not necessarily everything I’m getting from it obviously. Mesmerizing.

Despite my feelings towards it, I think that was the movie’s job. Once, a friend of mine watched Ari Aster’s Hereditary and gave it a 1/10. I asked him why and he told me that he wasn’t able to finish it in one sitting. He said it was too screwed up and scary for him. I told him that if a horror movie made him feel this way, then didn’t it do its job? He then gave the movie a 10/10. What I’m saying is that, despite the aspects of the movie I didn’t like, it still did its job. And it did it with love, care, and historical authenticity. That’s a lot more than what i can say about other movies. Now if you don’t mind, I’m going to lock myself in my bathroom as I just saw a sea gull outside my window. You’ll understand if you’ve watched The Lighthouse.
