Description

From Executive Producer Ben Stiller, long-time friends Alice and Ben find themselves in that inevitable year that all late 20-somethings experience—in which seemingly every person they know gets married—and agree to be one another’s plus ones as they power through an endless parade of insufferable weddings. Winner of the Tribeca Film Festival Audience Award, PLUS ONE stars Maya Erskine (“PEN15”), Jack Quaid (“The Boys”), Beck Bennett (“Saturday Night Live”), Rosalind Chao (The Joy Luck Club) and Ed Begley Jr. (A Mighty Wind), PLUS ONE is “sharp, raunchy, and altogether winning” (SlashFilm).

What a Great Surprise!

I anticipated some great chemistry and dialogue but I was not ready for the range of emotion this film explores. Absolutely enjoyed Quaid and Erskine together. They so complimented each other and their obvious chemistry really sells the whole story. The absurdity of wedding ceremonies playing in the background really was so clever. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Loved it - great dialogue

I watched this because the reviews said it was funny and great, and I found it to be ... funny and great! The main characters are hilarious, and even though perhaps it's a story line done before, it somehow doesn't feel that way because of the clever, funny, cute, charming chemistry and dialogue. I LOVED this movie, completely 100% worth watching.

Good premise and story. Maya..wow she is awesome in this

3 1/2 stars. The story is good and the families on both side are great.
What really stood out was Maya!! She was awesome! Quaid was fine. A guy trying to figure out what he wants. Just the character written for him was all over the place. It was bit too much and found me not rooting for him at all.

A movie about two very unlikable characters

Maya Erskine and Jack Quaid have an amazing onscreen chemistry. Their sarcasm is awesome. I love this movie.

For me the overall the film was just meh. I found Maya adorable, the male couple delightful, wedding speeches quirky fun, but never warmed to the lead actor. Tip: wait until it hits the discount movie theatre or DVD rental box.

The trailer showed some funny moments in the movie and it didn’t stop there. Usually when you watch a trailer most of the funny moments are revealed and you’re caught thinking “that’s it?!!” But not this title.

Might be the best romcom I've ever seen

At a high level, it's formulaic and predictable, but the dialogue and chemistry between the two lead characters is fresh and original, and all of the characters and interactions feel authentic. I love strong female leads and Maya Erskine delivers in spades.

This movie has great chemistry. Jack Quaid is Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan’s son. I watched the movie because he was in it but the female lead, Maya Erskine was the show stealer. Best romantic comedy I’ve seen in years.

Authentic and funny take on young love

One of the strongest elements of this film is how accurately it portrays what its like to date your best friend as a young adult. At first, the two leads might not seem like a match made in heaven, but as the plot develops and they become best friends throughout the film, the audience starts to root for a relationship between these two best friends because it just makes sense: they are great company for each other are going through the same turmoils and struggles in their young adult life.
The unique dynamic between this eccentric girl and this more reserved guy is refreshing and has audiences rooting for a relationship between them. Maya Erskine's physical and blunt comedy paired with Jack Quaid's minimal and deadpan comedy leaves no dull moments in their interactions. And the climax of the movie is one of many moments of great acting by Maya Erskine.
The strength of the relationship between these characters is so great that no matter which way the ending went, it still makes for a heartwarming, funny, and authentic dynamic that is relatable and worth a watch.
If you're in the mood for a more bare bones and close-to-home take on romance between young professionals, Plus One is a must-see.

Much like Jack Quiad, Maya Erskine just didn't sell me at first. I had no real interest in her character, in fact, she kinda annoyed me. Also like Jack Quaid, the silly rambunctious nature of Maya Erskine steadily grew on me. By the end I was in love. And you will be too

This is a great summer movie! Funny, romantic, and fresh in its approach to a genre that’s making a comeback. It’s drawn many comparisons to When Harry Met Sally, as friendship is a key part of the romance (which makes the build that much more tension filled!). Maya Erskine and Jack Quaid have great chemistry and Erskine is especially funny.

I enjoyed this film because it felt realistic. The majority of the comedy is derived from the dialogue which is a breath of fresh air from the usual slapstick humor of today’s flicks. Highly recommend!

In some ways, Plus One is your standard rom-com: cutesy, predictable, and light. In other ways, there is nothing standard about it at all, as the candle-lit locations and PG-storyline are offset by raunchy humor and true to life characters. Acting is also top-notch, with Quaid's understated comedy successfully tempering Erskine's at times over-the-top performance. Definitely recommend if you're in search of a breezy summer movie!

Plus One is a quiet revolution. It’s not in-your-face about any particular agenda, but it does something revolutionary. The writers tell inclusive and authentic stories without any heavy-handedness—just organically and thoughtfully. Then, the actors bring it to life.
If you are a fan of Maya Erskine from PEN15 like me, you will relish her well of comic brilliance. Her timing and delivery, not to mention unrestrained realness, are placing her among comedy heavyweights. Maya Erskine will make you ugly laugh and then, in moments of convincing vulnerability, ugly cry.
As a 30 something who has gone to ten too many weddings, this movie spoke to my elder millennial soul. The stories have weight in and of themselves but the execution was done so carefully that I felt seen in a way no romcom has ever achieved before. Bravo and thank you to the writers, producers, directors, cast and crew.

I was pleasantly surprise when I saw this at Tribeca Film Festival. I didn’t think I’d like Plus One as much as I did but it stole my heart. Maya Erskine and Jack Quaid were delightful as leads and the supporting cast rounded out the film perfectly.

I’ve seen the film in theaters 3 times, and it never stops having the ability to make me smile.
The effortless charm and honest character exploration doesn’t fall into the trap of the generic rom com of two people who aren’t sure if they hate each other or love each other. (WOMP WOMPPPP!)
Instead, Plus One is about two friends who like each other from the start, so we don’t need to see a cliched 45 minutes of two people driving each other crazy. We just get to watch what it’s like to fall in love with a friend. And it’s beautiful.

This is an absolutely fabulous film! Its amazingly funny and incredibly heartfelt. The script is pristine, quick, thoughtful, and Maya Erskine is grade A talent - she is certainly on her way to A-List. Jack Quaid certainly 'representin' the acting blood that runs in his veins! A It's 'the' romcom to speak to a modern generation - a small story about friends & family but with much larger things to say about looking for 'the one' in todays climate and culture. We really laughed hard throughout and yes, even wept up a bit at the important scenes. This is the best independent film I've seen in years. Better than most anything that Netflix has released, Hulu and of course the theater is strictly superhero fare these days. Bravvo to the film makers, actors - this is going to become a classic through word of mouth. Be one of the lucky ones to see it early!

Perfect fun watch!
