The movie doesn’t have as much action as people say it does. They focus more on the emotional state wolverines is in after all his friends and mutants are gone. How they got there isn’t entirely explained. The movie at times feels slow and dragged out. The ending was good. But the villain is quickly forgettable and defeated quickly. I feel like they could of done a lot better with the ending, but overall it was a good movie

A worthy send off for Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine

Wolverine was not suppossed to go out like that. Too much profanity and I did not like that Wolverine had a daughter, it would have been better if he had a son, and if he lead the children in Eden. Too much violence for young children too. Special note, Jackman is an incredible actor as well as Stewart . They should not have made this movie.

Slaughter fest

This movie is a slaughter fest of people of color. From its beginning it sets a tone that I can only describe as racist, and it is followed up by subjecting every character of color, no matter how inconsequential to the plot, to the most horrifying end you can imagine. Aside from this, the constant pain of the protagonist and heavy-handed treatment of it will make you actually wish for his passing. Without a doubt the worst super hero movie I have ever seen. I am a fan of X-Men, Hugh Jackman, and Patrick Stewart...not sure where it all went so wrong.

Watched all the X men movies for the first time just to get to Logan, which I heard was amazing. Enjoyed Last Stand and Future Past immensely.
Personally, however, I didn’t enjoy Logan and wouldn’t watch it again. Cinematically a huge step up from previous X-men movies and makes bold character choices but a little too dark and violent for my taste. Meaningful, but a very sad movie. Depends on taste.

Last year, 2017, was the year for superhero films. A total of six live-action blockbuster superhero films was released, all of which proving to be some sort of success, outside of Justice League. Coming into the year, Logan was never treated like a true superhero blockbuster. While it may have opened to an astounding 88 million opening weekend, the film ultimately didn’t attract audiences in the same way that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 and Wonder Woman did. However, despite not performing the financial heights that its companions reached, Logan is ultimately the best superhero film of 2017. It is an evoking work that challenges common clichés of its genre and is riveting with emotion, gruesome action sequences, and a tender beauty that carries the film as one of the best superhero films ever made.
Many audience members would leap to proclaim that the film’s success rests entirely on its stunning performances by Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart and even Dafne Keen. However, the pure art of the film comes from its screenplay, rightly nominated for an Academy Award for best adapted screenplay this past awards season. Mangold delivers something that few screenwriters are able to achieve-art with realistic dialogue. Often times throughout films, screenwriters attempt to showcase themes and imagery often costing the realism of the dialogue. The dialogue quickly becomes telling the audience what they should feel rather than allowing their interpretation do it. Logan fortunately does not fall into this trap. The story is bleak and fascinatingly dark. It feels like a superhero film unmatched in its adult themes and mature content. Themes such as brokenness and even suicide are explored vividly throughout its 141 run time. It entirely shatters the impression that superhero films can only succeed as light and hopeful, adjectives that don’t represent the masterpiece Mangold has created. With such messages, the emotion of the film becomes all the more tangible, heightened by the almost beautiful story. It is a story that isn’t particularly original or fresh, but still feels exciting and deeply emotional due to the seventeen years audiences have spent with Hugh Jackman’s interpretation of the Wolverine. At the end of the film, it becomes clear that the film is about its lead protagonist. Often times with superhero films and stories of this nature, the focus of the film shifts to setting up further sequels or developing side characters. While the latter is done in droves in Logan, Mangold never forgets the character arc of its lead protagonist, making a somber and poignant finale all the more possible. The film never is considered with additional films or even its predecessors. It stands firmly on its own and is ultimately at its best when the character’s previous tales are not considered. Even with these heavy themes, the dialogue never takes a toll. In fact, it propels from it. The dialogue on display is crisp and smartly written. There are few jokes or attempts at humor within the film, but the dialogue still feels fresh and richly natural. In a genre full of dialogue and plot clichés, it is immensely refreshing to see a large-scale blockbuster take on uniqueness and originality with ease.
While the screenplay of the film is breathtakingly refreshing, it is ultimately the performances of the film that create an impression just as large. Hugh Jackman delivers a finite and tense performance. Even after seventeen years as the popular clawed superhero, Jackman still finds ways to innovate on his performance. He makes the most of the screenplay and delivers a somber performance that is instantly iconic. Stewart also delivers an astounding performance. He balances the screenplay’s dry humor and emotion with ease. Newcomer Dafne Keen is charming even though she rarely speaks throughout the film. Ultimately, it becomes clear that Logan has one of the best cast performances of any superhero film in the past decade.
What would appeal to most casual audiences wouldn’t be the tenderly emotional story. It wouldn’t be the compelling performances made by Jackman, Stewart, and newcomer Dafne Keen. It would be the gruesome action sequences that are conservatively littered throughout the film. Fortunately, though, these sequences are enjoyable but also don’t take the focus off the story. Action is meant to cause emotion, to propel the story to new heights that dialogue-based conversation can’t achieve. Logan is a prime example of this philosophy. Each action sequence caused emotion to rivet out of audiences. Each punch Logan felt was felt by audiences in 2017. This is how action is supposed to be implemented. In addition, the film never pressures the action sequences throughout the film. Between a stellar action sequence and an emotionally pure character moment, Mangold smartly chooses the latter without a moment’s pause. Even though the film is flawed, due to a slightly drab second act, Logan retains its vision the whole way through.
Logan is a unique work of art in a genre that has increasingly become more cliché-focused. It becomes a revolutionary work that challenges and even breaks common ideas of the blockbuster film. It blends a powerfully written screenplay with finite performances to create a work that is a masterpiece-not a masterpiece of the superhero genre-but a masterpiece of film. Despite minor flaws, every moment, every heart-pounding action sequence, and every line of dialogue makes a resounding impact on the audience, proving that Logan is one of the best films of 2017 and is easily one of the best superhero films ever made.

Excellent movie! I was very impressed. It's weird, I watched about the first half, then went
to bed, and never got back to the movie until many months later and wasn't sure how
impressed I was from my first half-viewing. This time I watched over from the beginning and
realized there was a lot more heart and soul to the movie than was evident in only seeing
the first half! It takes a while to build up but finally gets there and really grabs you at the end.

Logan is a masterpiece. It was a movie that came out with a big bang! The cast were excellent, the dark tone is good, action was exciting, and most of all the story. This movie hooked me from beginning to end and it got me feeling emotional. It's the best Wolverine movie if not the best X-Men movie in the franchise. Watch this movie and goodbye Hugh Jackman, you'll always be my Wolverine.

Ever since I was a little kid, I loved superheroes and their movies. Watching the 2000s Spiderman movies was one of my favorite ways to pass the time, and other films such as X-Men and Iron Man were no exception. With the movie Logan, the X-Men franchise had finally reached its turning point 17 years after its first film. Logan followed through on the franchise’s trend of making R-rated films, following 2016’s Deadpool and is able to have a wonderfully harsh story to boot with it, too. Logan is also able to prove almost single handedly that movies based on comic books shouldn’t be ignored when it comes to worthwhile stories.
Logan features a much more darker story in comparison to its predecessors, and at certain points downright depressing if you watched the previous films or care for the comics. The concept of Logan suggests that the struggles and adventures of the previous protagonists in the earlier movies had been rendered pointless, as all except for Wolverine and a small handful of mutants had met their demise only a few years prior to the semi-dystopian year of 2029.
This concept is something that the film does incredibly and would be picked up on by any movie goer. This accessibility is another one of Logan’s highlights, and only adds onto the list of things superb about it.
However, like everything in life, Logan is not perfect, and people will have issues with the movie after watching it. The villains in Logan do leave something to be desired, and sometimes feel like downright filler, but despite this, they do add tension to the film, leaving them as somewhat divisive.

The story by Old Man Logan by Millar and McNiven, upon which this film was based, is a Mad Max-esque tale where the heroes of the Marvel universe are killed off by a coalition of villains and the country divided among the likes of Doctor Doom, the Abomination (later the Hulk), the Kingpin, and Red Skull. Obviously the film couldn't go that route, not when Fox only had the rights to the X-Men and two failed attempts at the Fantastic Four. But while the film cannot follow the mini-series to the letter, it does a fine job nevertheless of depicting the final days of the man called Wolverine, now a broken shadow of his former self.
For a man whose life is a montage of suffering and loss, the real question left to ask as it comes to an end is: was it worth it? At the beginning of the film, it doesn’t seem like it was. The X-Men are dead and mutants are all but history, a fanciful memory in the eyes of most people, and Logan is driving a limo of all things, taking care of an aging and demented Charles Xavier. His only goal for the future is to buy a boat and get away from everything. But a visit from a strange woman and a young girl named Laura sends Logan’s life off the rails.
Logan is tired, defeated, and largely uninterested in the affairs of the world. He is focused entirely on his retirement plan for Xavier and himself. There are hints as to what has happened to them, and the X-Men, but it's never made the center of attention. This film is tight and personal, it's all about Logan's final adventure, and as he takes on the responsibility of helping Laura reach “Eden.” A journey that turns out to be fairly bloody, as the film's R-Rating allows Hugh Jackman to be the ultra violent Wolverine that comic book fans have been waiting for since the film franchise began.
Patrick Stewart adeptly plays an aging Professor X who is losing his grip on reality, but holding tightly to his sense of responsibility. He effortlessly shifts from randomly shouting radio commercials like a lunatic and waxing poetic about the loss he’s suffered and can’t fully remember. “Logan” is as much Stewart’s swan song as it is Jackman’s, and he makes the most of it.
The breakout star of the film is undoubtedly Dafne Keen as Laura/X-23, Logan’s cloned offspring. Child actors are frequently hit or miss, and this could have been an easy part to miscast, but Ms. Keen is an excellent actor with real presence onscreen, and it’s a delight to watch her play off of Jackman and Stewart. While it is highly unlikely, especially after the merger with Disney, I wouldn’t mind if Fox devoted an entire trilogy to her.
As it stands, Logan is one of the few superhero movies to become a serious Oscar contender, and like Deadpool before it, a welcome exploration of what a superhero movie can be. It’s experimental, and all the better for it.

Having seen Hugh Jackman play The Wolverine since I was a child, I think there could not have been a better send off for a legendary character played by a very dedicated actor. Same goes for Patrick Stewart as our favorite Professor. Both these actors have shown such devotion to their roles and fans and while it pains me we might never see them on screen again, I am so thankful that this movie was so brilliant in its send off of two major characters. And now we have Dafne Keen as X-23, and WOW! Such an incredible performance from a talented actress.
Next, James Mangold did a stunning job of directing a superhero movie where no previous veiwings of other X-men movies are required, which is difficult to do in a Movie Universe like the X-Men franchise. And to add to that, he gave this movie such a great western/apocalyptic vibe that it stands out from ALL other superhero movies, and if its recent nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay is any consolation, this movie deserves all the praise and awards that could come its way.

A MUST WATCH!!!!
