It's big! It's really really Big. It's also loud! Really really Loud. Big and loud. Huge big. Deafening loud. One hundred and sixty five million dollars worth of sound and fury.
It's so big, loud, and expensive you may not notice how dull it is until it's over, which, given that it's nearly three hours of Big, Loud, and Expensive, has to be regarded as an achievement of sorts.

I Cried, I was Amazed, This movie is important.

Loved the cameo appearance of Matt Damon, it was almost like "along came mark watney". Matt Damon's character was also haunting, as he tried to kill one of the astronauts he yells "I'm sorry! Close your eyes! Listen to the sound of my voice! I'm here for you. Your family is there. They-they are standing next to you smiling. I-I'm sorry but I just can't stand to watch this. I thought I could, but-. I'm truly sorry!"

I always had this hope that this movie would transcend.. but something(someone) told me not to waste my time. I wish I had listened. The calculations are preposterous. Hearing this Reality that has been shoved down our throats makes me realize how dumbed down we have all become.
The acting was wooden, CGI adequate, and the score heavy handed. If I had just looked at my watch I could have spared myself the emptiness and disappointment of this vacuum in space..

JUST PLAIN DUMB AS HELL!

*Spoiler* if you think finding yourself behind your own home bookshelf is what is at the end of the universe then god help you. Matthew has gone full Tom Cruise and is a real life space cadet now. Void of meaning and the end result of pretentious "art" guising itself as something that matters in any real way besides patting itself on the back for no reason. I hope the 10 year old ghost writer is proud of his work.

I really liked how they portrayed time dilation and impacts of it on the astronauts. I thought the whole calamity on earth however was rather half baked. I also thought the part with the books and morse code was really, really stupid. The whole love conquers the universe seemed like something a bunch of hippies came up with while consulting their crystals. Some people liked the tech portrayed in the film - for me it was so so. The new box robot thing just seemed out of place to me. its like they tried to make something look cool without taking into account functionality. The ships were all right, the acting all right... I just wish they would have focused on the worlds and time dilation.

I rented and didn't watch for 28 days because I'd seen a bunch of space movies recently and thought surely my attention would wander. Wrong! Very much enjoyed. Interstellar is the thinking person's space movie with a few twists and turns, realms and dimensions in space and time, and a theory about our ghosts and Gods for those of us who know there is much more out there than what we see. Definitely recommend.

I'm not at all one to go around bragging on a movie, let alone to go to the trouble of writing a review, but this film was a true game-changer. Matthew McConaughey and Mackenzie Foy's performances together were unlike anything I've ever experienced. The chemistry and bonding between them was so real and raw, and the emotions running high throughout the entire movie kept me in tears. The movie is a bit lengthy, but it doesn't give you a single minute to contemplate how long you've been watching. You're on the edge of your seat throughout the ENTIRE film. Truly amazing job with special effects, casting, cinematography, and everything else involved in the making. I've never seen a better sci-fi/drama in my life.

3.5 stars. Christopher Nolan set out to make a sci-fi epic as beautiful and thought-provoking as 2001. He didn't get there, but I wouldn't call this a noble failure, more like a noble not-quite-a-triumph. It has an awful lot going for it. It often looks stunningly gorgeous. The scenes in space really are the best since 2001. Much of the acting (including that of the two best robots in modern sci-fi) is excellent. Hans Zimmer's Philip Glassian score is one of the most ravishing and haunting since, well, Philip Glass's heyday. The emotional core hinges around a matched set of heartbreaking and humane father-daughter relationships, making it almost uniquely grownup for sci-fi… But it fails down, ultimately, where so many movies do these days, in the storytelling. I don't know if it's the writing or the editing or both, but instead of a soaring epic it often just feels too long and oddly patched-together. Some scenes feel rushed and incomplete, others overlong or unnecessary. The mini-lectures about science and time and black holes and such are perfunctory and yet repetitious. The long visits to the two alien planets feel like big set-pieces shaken out of what was once conceived to be a much longer film. (Don't know the film's evolution, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Nolan originally planned, say, a 4-hour epic, and the money boys forced him to cut it down.) The big, psychedelic climax, which bookends nicely with act 1, is nevertheless kinda too fantastical and sentimental to be effective. The denouement that follows it feels rushed again, and leaves questions unanswered. I like the movie a lot despite its flaws, but I think that, as with Inception, Nolan's ambition was a bit grander than his abilities.

This might be Christopher Nolan’s best film, which is really saying something considering that he made The Dark Knight. And although Interstellar has its flaws, where it does succeed it succeeds so well that its a must-see. It is complex, intriguing, emotional, and impactful. The soundtrack is one of the best you will ever hear. It takes such a unique and different approach to science fiction. It is a movie like no other. Do not hesitate to buy. This is Nolan’s opus.

I don't brag a lot but I am a really good gauge when it comes to reviewing movies because I've seen almost all of them good or bad.
Interstellar is good at best. The soundtrack is too loud in most spots for what we are watching. The story is typical and quite boring and even predictable. Great special effects but that's not too hard to do these days. We don't really get to care too much about the characters. I didn't care if they lived or died. The story wasn't deep enough. Doesn't get into the possibilities of Einstein's speed of light theory except for one sentence. It would've been nice for us to see them return to a realistic version of how humans would live once the earth gave out.
It was a long winded ending and it makes you think if he chose the right cubby hole. Did he?

First let it be said that Nolan is one of my favorite directors, so there is some bias here. However, this movie is among the handful in my collection that I can watch over and over and still get something out of.
The case was excellent. Some of the characters and relationships were a little underdeveloped, but I'll give that a pass considering that movie was already almost 3 hours. The acting was fantastic! Even the voices of the robots bring their characters into the movie in a very meaningful way.
The story is my favorite part. This story uses science and physics as a way to actually shape the story rather than just being part of the situation they find themselves in. For super science and physics nerds there will be a few things that bother you, but the effort they made to stick to the actual science makes up for any liberties they took for the storie's sake.
All in all I can find some faults with this movie when I disect it, but for a movie that you just want to watch and have it challenge you intellectually a little all while still including FANTASTIC sound and music editing (watch the "Making Of" if you can, especially the audio part), huge, engrossing and impressively believable special effects, and a good story, I just have to admit it's a favorite.
Not Nolan's best, but it's great enough that I really don't care, that's a pretty high bar.

A must have👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I had pretty high expectations for this film. I will admit. However, this picture did not pass the space opera test of good drama, decent action, and good story telling. This was like a Russian novel, only not as inspiring or as detailed. The ending came off like a B-grade science fiction movie from the 60s, and was disappointing at best. I would not purchase this movie for my library. However, it might be worth this 99 cent rental.

Get it straight up front, this is not a movie for people looking for cheap thrills or cheasy action. This is a movie that was made for intellectuals to watch and consider. The dialog, from a phisics perspective, was lacking, but from a philosopher's viewpoint this movie was incredible. The film is extremely thought provoking, and leads you to question some of the things that we consider facts. Brilliant acting, and a good plot combind with the subtle intellegence of the concepts and ideas make for a winning combination. But once again, a shallow thinker will not fully enjoy this movie.

Watching this movie multiple times has only strengthened my opinion of it. Everyone has an opinion and they seem to be widely varied. People question the science and others say the plot twist is silly, still others question the characters and the writing. Everyone is so busy looking to find what's wrong that you missed the point all together. This movie pokes at some real issues, issues that maybe the Nolans think we should be looking at now. It reminds us that we're human, that we stand tall in the darkest hour, that we can and should explore, and it warns us against thinking what we know is what is... You missed the beauty, the pain, the weight of it all. Movies like whiplash deserved the praise they received. Bird man was not the best movie of the year. If I had a vote, it would have gone to interstellar, and it really is a shame that this movie was snubbed. So in my opinion, in an era of reboots and shallow trash this movie was a cut above and I place it in my top three favorites.

This movie is in a class all by itself. No sense in comparing it to any other. With no pun at all intended this moving is absolutely stellar. Some complain it’s long. Duh. It had to be. This is film is monumentally panoramic in scope. Scope takes time. Some say it’s slow. You bet it is. I had to be. To slowly let it sink into our shallow drive thru impatient minds and hearts. For the self inflated, self-righteous prig at Rotten Tomatoes who said it is “already slipping away” from his shallow atrophied mind, I think for most of us his comments were gone from us the moment we read them. THIS IS A GREAT MOVIE!!! One of the best movies I have ever seen!

A beautiful film. Who would have thought one could experience such arcane things as relativity, what it feels like, in their living room. Kudos to all involved with this project, truly a tour de force.
It really hits you when they accidentally lose twenty years and see their children's lives go by. Matthew McConaughey is so good in all his work, even when just sitting in front of a monitor watching time pass. Little Mackenzie Foy is worth the ticket: she is remarkable, may her future be bright and award-filled.
Even if you are not a space buff, show it to your kids, they will love the best and most realistic special effects to date and, who knows, they may become engineers or scientists and save us from ourselves. And if anyone tells them Interstellar could not really happen, remind them what the physicists say: Inside black holes, we don't yet know the physics.
Kip Thorne and Christopher Nolan give us some wonderful ideas to chew on wrt that.

Forget the five dimensional tesseract, quantum entangled to a recursive iteration of a girl's bookshelf, and used to send morse code to an old analogue wrist watch - How you can bring that much talent together in one place and so utterly fail, should become the study of importance here.
Weak story, poor acting, and the biggest disappointment since the remake of Annie. I guess special effects, a score by Zimmerman and a few science facts stuck on with chewing gum is all it takes to make it any thing a hit.

The science in this movie is so real even though the film is fictional. Most films go for the special effects but fail to enlist a physicist or scientist on the direction or cutting of the film. For this film, Christopher Nolan enlisted Theoretical Physicist Kip Thorne as the Executive Producer and Scientific Consultant.
Although theoretical, the science in this move was absolutely accurate to all known theory and scientific study. Thorne’s early guidelines that “nothing would violate established physical laws. Second, that all the wild speculations... would spring from science and not from the fertile mind of a screenwriter” were what made this move both spectacular and absolutely believable.
A must for any critic, movie lover or dreamer who believes in the indomitable spirit of humankind.

Interstellar is a long movie. A lot happens. Its got some great visuals, a realistic story, and kept me interested from start until finish. Very Sci-fi which for me was great. This film is magnificent and directed beautifully by an outstanding filmmaker, Christopher Nolan who has made some of the instant classics from the 21st century like the newest Batman trilogy and Inception. Interstellar is the same. This movie blew me away and will surely blow

Interstellar takes you on a visual journey of space, time and memories. The film explores the infinite possibility of life in the universe while humankind, on Earth, lives with the regret of limited existence. We witness human ambition reaching for the stars and taking a voyage into the unknown frontier. One finds hope in the search for a new world while blight overcomes the old. Interstellar takes us on a journey where time is at a premium but, life is precious in it's experience. Time will always be limited and travel to the stars will be challenging. Love is one emotion that transcends time and space.

No words.

A Rational Review

Reading through these reviews, I realized that everyone needs to take one large step back. The five star reviews claim it's the best movie of all time, which is certainly not true, and the one star reviews claim it to be one of the worst of all time, which is also not the case. Seeing this, I figured it was time for someone to be reasonable about this film. Here's the deal: this movie is no Citizen Kane, it's no 8 1/2, it's no The Godfather, heck, it's not even as good as Memento, Nolan's actual best film. That being said it's also not anywhere as near as bad as Troll 2.
This is a perfectly okay science-fiction drama from a pretty good director of popular blockbusters, but it certainly has problems. The sound mix is off, Ann Hathaway's character is underdeveloped, and the end twist can best be described as "Shamalayn-esque." It is a good movie, with some solid performances and pretty good action, as well as believable human drama, but in the end it merely accomplishes what Nolan set out to do, and that's to make an intelligent blockbuster. This being said, however, I think that people tend to confuse a movie that makes them think a little bit with high art, which this is not.
I am not a troll, nor a Nolan-hater, just a Nolan fan that knows this director can and has done much better movies.

Absolutely Astounding.

A spectacle from start to finish, Christopher Nolan's Interstellar is an awe-inspiring space epic with such ambition that it can't be contained in three dimensions. Emotionally riveting and dramatically satisfying, this film rides on hard physics and science but ultimately prevails through intimate sentiment. Interstellar presents a future Earth on the verge of apocalypse, where food has grown scarce in the emergence of a devastating crop blight. Cooper is chosen to embark on a journey to find a new world for mankind to inhabit, but time is not on his side, and he may have to decide between the fate of the human race and seeing his children again.

I have never seen anything like it. EVER. When it isn’t intense, its dramatic. when it isn’t dramatic, it’s touching. and when its not touching, its awe-inspiring, beautiful, and a spectacle of human achievement. When i first saw it, half way through i was wondering how in the world only two men were able to write it. Buy it, even if you haven't seen it. you will NOT be disappointed.

One of the best films I've ever seen- no exaggeration. I think that everything from the science (which admittedly some of which is highly theoretical- nonetheless thought provoking) to the visuals, performance, and sound design of this film kept my attention through and through. I came back for 2nds, 3rds and 4ths in theaters. I can't wait to own this beautiful work of art, give it a chance if you're looking for one of the best science fiction films in recent memory, as well as a thought provoking and emotional story. A+ for me.

One of if not the best science fiction drama of all time

This is why I go to the movies. Interstellar had everything a movie needs. Top notch acting by Matthew Mcconaughey and the rest of the cast, realistic Academy Award winning special effects, a emotional musical score by master composer Hans Zimmer, and most importantly a potent emotional and inspiring story that doesn't let go even after the credits roll. Christopher Nolan might be loved for the Dark Knight Trilogy but I'll always remember him for this masterpiece in the same league as 2001 A Space Odyssey.

Amazing Movie--A Must Watch!!

Having Seen many science fiction movies, this is the best one I have ever seen. This movie has a deep correlation to 2001: A space odyssey. Interstellar has actual science woven in deep to the movie which gives an actual sense of reality while staying in the Fiction category.

Brilliant

Some have loved the film, others hated it. I, for one, put myself into the former category as it appeals to imagination, heart, and science with such a mixture of perfect unity that it can’t fail in my estimation as a great film.
Of course, Zimmer’s score is brilliant and is equally blended with Noland’s stunning and breathtaking visuals, that both eyes and ears are swiftly and violently sent into the "dying of the light."

Amazing.

The science behind the making of this movie just the beginning of why it is a great film, especially after all the inaccuracies behind the film “Gravity”.

Director, Christopher Nolan has taken another leap for filmmaking in a very massive and heart touching experience. Interstellar was the greatest film of the year in its strong and exhilarating fashion. The film takes us on a lifetime journey of the love between a widowed father and his children faced against a conflict that forces him to journey across the universe in search for a new home for humanity and leaving his children behind. Matthew McConaughey brings an illuminating performance as Cooper an adventurous and emotional father, brings out his true heart as a father in the film. Aside from being a Science Fiction film, the film focuses on the transcendent love between Father and daughter and not only takes a direct aim for the mind but aims for the heart in a grand emotional experience.

This movie comines what we know if our universe with theories of what we hope to discover one day. Hence to an untrained eye the end of the story would be hard to digest. The scenary, soundtrack, and human emotion is so great that even a non scientific mind would be interested in watching.
I would recommend it to all people.

Christopher Nolan has made perhaps his finest film to date. If you're looking for a shoot-em-up, stereotypical action flick, don't buy this. But, if you want an intellectually stimulating, original, well written, family-friendly film, this is an absolute must have. Throw in a fantastic score from Hans Zimmer, along with possibly one of the greatest movie scenes ever (the Docking sequence) and you have an all-timer on your hands. Enjoy ;)
