This is the best Depp movie I have seen!

This had a good cast of actors, and a good story plot, but after all it just didnt go anywhere. nothing was really resolved. I would say save your money and look else where. just to long, hard to understand the british accents.

a hundo stars for depp! that man makes my heart skip a beat. oh and the movie still gives me nightmares. I LOVE it(:

A complete and utter failure to adapt Alan Moore's near 700 page horror epic to the silver screen. Of course what Hollywood should try doing is to NOT adapt Moore's work as it's been proven time and time again that it can't be done.

Of all Moore's work that ever HAS been adapted properly, that's been Watchmen, and even that's had criticisms. But this? The Hughes Brothers, to my knowledge, are good directors. As such, this demonstrates that they probably didn't even READ From Hell, and as a result, they made this ****fest.

For those who say it's not accurate or whatever, it's FICTION based on true events! it's a great movie based on theory of what could be - if u read once in awhile you would know the case was never solved and never will be- movie was amazing  and it's Johnny Depp

I've already seen this movie several times and it's still just as great as when i saw it the first time. my question is, why is it listed under vampire movies?

So I buy this movie off of the vampire movie deals for 5 bucks and I watch. At the end I am stunned that I tunes considers this a vampire flick please if you want a vampire movie get 30 days of night and you know what Jack the Ripper is the doctor the old one who helps Depp's character there I said it I just saved you two worthless hours of a story that goes nowhere do yourself a favor navagate your self away from this page now!

great movie but not a vampire movie

Ok I first of all have to start out by saying that I thoroughly loved this movie!!! The Acting was amazing, the story captivating...and well of course it's Johnny fricken Depp.

The only critisisim I have is not for the movie itself but at ITunes. They decided to make a select variety of vamp movies 4.99 which is cool, but this is definately not a vampire move at all!!! do your reearch ITunes!!

I don't like period pieces, but this one sucked me in and made me care about the characters.

I took a college course on criminal profiling and we spent a little over 6 weeks profiling the victims and possible Ripper suspects - so I was a bit skeptical about the content of the movie. However, I was pleasantly surprised that the writer(s) did not deviate too much from factual events. Obviously, not everything was covered, nor was everything factual, but a great spin of events and theories.

I recommend watching this movie for the pure entertainment value and then dig in a little deeper and study the case...VERY interesting!

By far one of the best depp films. It has action, suspense, romance and chills. I loved it!!

This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The director and producer were so enamored by the gore, they paid no mind to any plot development, they completely destroyed how Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell created the characters and the acting, yes even everyone's favorite Johnny Depp, completely phoned it in. This movie is an embarrassment.

i don't know how the past reviewers could possibly think this is a bad movie. Johnny Depp gave his best performance out of all his movies and this had to be one of the first and last horror films that has a very interesting story given the fact that it is about Jack the Ripper. i recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys mystery/thriller/horror movies and i definitely think this movie is worth renting

I may be in a minority-but i dont care. this movie was Awful, and a total disapointment for a Johnny Depp movie. Yeah, the premise of the story was grim, but even the most depressing or creepy story can be turned into something interesting, with personality, even if it takes place in a depressing place (look at Sweeney Todd), but this movie portrayed the lives of the prostitutes and the city as grimy and disgusting as it probably was, and didnt even consider what people watching the movie would want to see. it was horrible.

Okay, so most people aren't in it for the Ripper acuracy, but I was when I got it. Way off. 95% not acurate. It's a nice thriller, I'll admit, but still not one of Depp's all time bests. I'd rent it.

absolutely incredible movie. pretty bloody but if johnny depp is in it you should expect some blood. great story and wonderful depiciton of jack the ripper. recommend to anyone who loves a good thriller

Puffah! I am a fan of Jonny Depp but even he could'nt (nor Ian Holm) could save this mess of a film. I am not obsessed with Mr. Depp like you bunch of emos out there that call him the greatest actor of all time. If you think this is good, actually read the novel. It makes this mess of modern film pale in comparison to it's glory. Puffah!

This movie is fabulous! i just received it for my birthday and it is soooo good! i like secret window better, but this is great as was sweeney todd! Way to go, Johnny! i highly recommend this movie is you like suspense/horror/psychological thriller movies! Johnny Depp is my favorite actor and this movie does him justice! :)

I liked this movie but the ending...the ending made no sense and thanks to this movie i am now afraid of grapes...also known as grapeaphobia...i think! i liked johnny in it too!

This was a great and thrilling movie; from the opening scene to the ending, it leaves you to the edge of your seat wanting to know more of this terrifying story. Definately a movie to watch.

While entertaining at parts, and Depp and Holm are always great to watch, this movie pales in comparision to the graphic novel on which it is based. Do yourself a favor and check out the source material.

I have seen over 20 of Johnny Depp's movies and this is in my top 5! Depp gives an astounding performance as does Heather Graham. The plot is great and for the most part keeps you on the edge of your seat. It has everything a great movie needs: suspense, romance, action, mystery, etc. If you are into mystery and suspense and you don't mind a little gore, this is the movie for you!!

The acting is all very well done. Depp does give one of the best.

The writing is the real problem with this film. It's a complete mess.

This film is too bloody and gorey. Had it been toned down, I'd probably reward this with 4 stars.

Overall, if you can handle blood and a messy story, then From HeII may be a decent film to rent.
