The Matrix is an awesome action/sci-fi flick. It's the best of the trilogy and it has awesome action scenes(with slow motion!), great acting, better story than Reloaded(which was okay)and Revolutions(was stupid), and awesome visual effects. The Matrix is one of the best sci-fi movies ever! It's still great today. Buy this movie!

The original marketing of this film before it hit theaters had us begging to know "What is the Matrix????"

When my college buddies and I went to see it, our collective minds were blown !!!

A highly original story with awesome special effects and action , this is an awesome movie , one of my Top 10 films. Note that the sequels are not nearly as good.

When I was quite young, I watched this movie, along with the rest series. This movie literally surprised myself at that time. How can I say... After watching the movie, something was really bothering myself. I couldn't get away from thinking about this film. I watched this movie more than several times. Think, think, and think consciously or unconsciously. Probably, a couple of years passe, I made a reflection on this film with the Japanese novel, Rococo Street. Probably, this comparison does not make a good harmony to most people. In my mind, it was.

Matrix world could be a fantasy paradise to some people, as well as the world in the Rococo Street can be fantasy paradise to some people. In this manner, the comparison was possible.

At the end of my reflection, I wrote about the importance of having strong SELF concept. I did not mean to live in that Matrix world with my choice at all. I prefer current world with real flesh and sensations, with my own self.

However, I thought about that, what if, what if, our current world is a real matrix world? How can we know about that? Maybe, I think if we explore the vast of universe, we might be able to find clues about the answer. Even without the answer, just living in this world is very good for myself, as being my own self.

I think this movie is a good movie for young adults or old adults who haven't thought about that kind of living in computer simulated worlds.

Anyone who likes this genre needs to watch

The Maxtrix is a great movie, but when I purchesed it the sound isn't great at all, why is that?, does anyone know??

I'm not sure how this movie received such high ratings. Without the actions scenes, the dialog is boring and the acting abysmal. If you're willing to wait out the dull parts to get to the actions scenes, good luck. I stopped watching this ridiculous movie about half-way through. Warning: if you rent it and watch it on a computer, the sound level is so low it is difficult to make out much of the dialog. Not that it matters. Terrible movie.

The Matrix is one of the best of it’s genre. It is a mind-bending, intense, terrific sci-fi film. It is spectacular, stunning, and keeps you on the edge of your seat for the whole time. Special effects are top notch as well.

I had always heard how the matrix was amazing and revolutionary. And yes it had amazing visual effects for the time but I feel as if the plot is boring, the action is dull, and the concept has been seen before. It is still a good movie though but it is not a masterpiece like everyone says.

Is the sound fixed for this film yet? I'm really considering of purchasing this film, but not if the sound is still as low as everyone was saying it was.

Probably my favorite film for a lot of reasons. It really changes the way you think about a lot of things.

I swear - I do not know what is wrong with Apple/iTunes. I cannot hear this movie. All volume is all the way up. I even have a speaker system. Can I hear it. NO. Would love to be able to just hear it. Apple you have some kind of problem because about 1 of 15 movies NOONE CAN HEAR.

One of my favorite movies of all time and always will be! It's ok if you don't understand it fully, can be just fun to watch and see where a lot of movies today got their inspiration and technology from.

Think of the matrix as your perception of reality and watch Matrix one more time, blows your mind. This is a must have movie.

I heard that The Matrix had some of the best action scenes in movie history. I don't think so. I guess they were cool at the time, but for me, it just feels like I'm looking at computers. The bullets Neo's dodging aren't really there and I can even see that on screen. Anyway, The Matrix holds up the best in it's idea. The idea of a mind prison is pretty creative. Though, they don't explain it very well. This movie sort of disappointed me in the way that I was expecting some cool looking action scenes but instead I got computers. There are good things about The Matrix too. I've already talked about the idea of the film but the visual styles are pretty neat too. That sort of apocalyptic city looks pretty neat. If that can keep you entertained for 2 hours, I'd say watch it. For me though, it was kind of a drag. It just didn't seem fully thought out at the end. I don't know, the best I can give this film is a 6/10.

This is one of the greatest action, sci-fi, and thriller films of all time. Do not skip this. The Matrix is an unbelievable story where it takes you into two worlds - the dream world (one that contains artificial intelligence), and the real world, where Sentinels prowl in an apocalyptic universe. Keanu Reeves might be in this, but he's still cool as the main character Neo. And of course, to actors Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving, their characters are awesome, too. In fact, it was the first film where I saw Weaving (Before Lord of the Rings). It's a great film. The action is top-notch. Try not to mimic the scene where Neo is dodging bullets. A lot of filmmakers always get inspired from something like that. The sequels could have been better, but this is the real deal. Don't miss out.

I was living in Japan when this film came out. When Japanese friends asked me to explain what it was really about--because I'm American and it's an American film--and which was supposed to be the real world versus the virtual world, I found it impossible to get past their confusion, so I finally said, "It's a film about Japanese society." They actually liked that answer.

Certainly this film altered many people's perceptions of what is real, so it's impossible to deny that it's thought provoking, psychological thriller--and I may be the only one ever to describe it that way I think. You saw the world the next day as more legend than reality; sure, you knew what was real, but you started to wonder what was the reality behind the curtain of reality.

The first film is excellent in terms of the story and how it's told, whereas the second and third films are basically just action films with all the strengths of that genre in terms of great visual creativity and direction, but basically made for commercial success--in the tradition of blockbuster sequels. This first film is about the story.

If you're really into action and not too picky on the details, then watch all three, but if you want to see a great, highly original, creatively made film then the sequels would only be a disappointment. While the action in this first film is weak, the story telling is strong, whereas the sequels are all about the action.

If you saw the sequels first on television, don't be turned off from seeing this first film, because it is excellent.

Love the show but where is the volume button?

5 star show with a 1 out of 10 for the volume.

It made me feel like I was going deaf. Yeah...I am a little hard of hearing but nothing a good speaker or headphones can't address. But this one from iTunes has almost no sound.

I have several Tv shows, lots of iTunes movies and none even come close to the lack of volume I have encountered with "the matrix."

My recommendation is to save your money... Don't buy this one.

This is the very best SiFi Movie I have seen in years, BUT...Why is it missing 30% of the file. The original was shot in 70mm so converting it to widescreen format means that you lose 30% or 15% of the movie on each side. Totally unacceptable! And the original was recorded in digital audio which is the equivalent to 7.1 surround why is this only 5.1 surround?

I have seen this film more times than I can remember. I would say 50 times or so. The more I watched it, the more I saw of the movie. After about the 20th time, I stopped watching the focus of the picture and started looking around in the background. You will be amazed at how much there is to see that does not catch your attention the first couple of times you watch the movie.

This is an incredible well-thought out film that is extremely rich in detail. The action is amazing. The storyline very applicable to society as it really is.

I wish they made more movies like this one. The second and third movies of this series pale by comparison.

I want to buy the HD versions of the whole trilogy, but they're only available to buy in SD.

The movie is great. Reloaded is pretty good, but the third and last, Revolutions, is not worth watching. Better to just watch the ending of that one.

The Matrix is my fav movie of all-time, so I excidedly bought this as soon as I got my account. Unfortunately, this is the 2004 version of the film, released with The Ultimate Matrix Collection. You may get a better transfer than the original 1999 release, but the Wachowskis went back and changed the color tones in order for it to look more like the inferior sequels. What this means is all of the scenes that take place INSIDE The Matrix now have a very sharp, ugly green tint to them, taking away the realism and grittiness. I realize this is strictly an aesthetic problem, but I hate it when any film is tampered with. Most people probably won't have a problem with it, but I wanted everyone to know: BUYER BEWARE!

This movie may only be 9 years old but it is simply a classic. Amazing movie with one of the most original sci-fi plots ever created.

I am so glad that the original Matrix is now available to buy, not just rent. In my opinion, it is one of the greatest films of all time. Nice work, iTunes. Now we need The Matrix Reloaded and then we have the perfect 3 movies of all time on iTunes.

1999 Was supposed to mark the return of Star Wars on the big screen, what we got was a mess. 1999 IS the year of the Matrix!, and to have it only for rent is as disapointing as seeing "that" Star Wars movie. Please, Please, Please, have it to buy.

Fix your business model, Jobs. Renting is a flop! How many times do your customers have to tell you that they don't want to rent, they want to buy. Even the ones that are willing to rent find the 24 hour restrictions onerous and irritating. Does Kawasaki have to explain this to you? You won't be the only game in town too much longer.

this is one of my favorite movies. and btw people need to stop rating movies based on the fact that you can only rent them. iTunes isn't reading these. The Matrix is a really impressive movie. The action is just amazing. The story is a little far-fetched but very engaging. The acting isn't spectacular, but it doesn't really need to be. Keanu Reeves has enough presence and action persona to carry the movie. The exception is Hugo Weaving, who is very good as the villain Agent Smith. The Wachowski Brothers then-revolutionary special effects still hold up pretty well today. This is definitely a winner.

If The Matrix had not come to screens back in 1999, we'd be stuck with awful Star Wars clones and sequels. While the acting is a hit-or-miss issue, it serves its purpose for a more grounded vision of the future. The visuals are still ground-breaking after nearly a decade, inspiring many classic moments like the bullet dodging scene and the mini-gun scene. Perhaps its greatest strength, however, is its overall originality. Its plot, structure, visual design and characters were all a revelation and will put the film rightfully in its place in cinema history. Buy this movie now!!!

ok i have been buying things from i tunes for a long time and never really said anything because i never though i had to but i have had it with renting movies.

a while ago steve jobs said he was unimpressed with the sales of movies. ok whatever. then he said he was going ot make movies rentable. now i thought this is just great because when it comes down to it i just want to rent the movies i have never seen before and buy the ones i have. now it seems like oh i duno the day after the renting thing starts itunes gets a TON of great movies some i would LOVE to own but i can only rent them. thats fair put out older movies and be unhappy with sales then make all the good movies rent only and say that you will offer the movies to buy how nice is that and i love this movie you should BUY it an idea

The Matrix... one of my all-time favorites, obviously five stars, but I am really upset that it can only be rented It's just not smart of iTunes to do this. Back to the movie, it's amazing that they could do something this awesome in 1999. One last thing, I watched the bonus features on Matrix Rev. and I saw two people from the hit Discovery Channel show Mythbusters, Adam Savage and Tory Belachi (sorry probably mispelled). I was shocked when I saw them though the show says they had experience so I guess I shouldn't be too suprised.

I agree with ALL the other reviewers, this is one of the few All time greats, and certainly the best of the trilogy, but why would we as consumers pay HUNDREDS of dollars for portable video equipment only to find the only venue we have to place content on the above mentioned multi hundred dollar machines, we cannot PURCHASE it, I work in heart surgery, and may not have a chance to view my movie, so, wasted time downloading and wasted MORE cash trying to rent a movie that SHOULD be purchaseable to ALL of us DEVOTED CONSUMERS, laying out hard earned cash to do so!!!
