I do prefer the original. Though this will always have a special place in my heart.

I like the movie and I don’t know Netflix and also high school we watch an every break we need to like take a break after recess lunch and we see big things happen and Charlie was the last one and Willy Wonka I don’t care if I shout out but it’s my favorite though and also every song it’s the same thing the trolls or I don’t know what they’re called but on amazing!!!

I rewatch this movie whenever I’m feeling down and this never fails to put me in a better mood I just simply love it

I didn’t like this because of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton. I also like this because it has some similarities to the book. For example the Oompa Loompa songs in this film are the ones in the book. The nut sorting room scene is like in the book. I love both this film and the original.

Willy Wonka in this movie is an absolute ICON and everyone needs to know.

The opening title is just so beautifully Tim Burton and I love it. Well, the whole movie is very blatantly Tim Burton, but that opening sequence with what sounds like children harmonizing is just so captivating.

Charlie is such a good boy. He reminds me of how I was when I was in elementary school- optimistic, empathetic, imaginative, and kind. He absolutely deserves the chocolate factory.

Willy is just so adorable in this movie. I just want to hug him and protect him from anything that tries to hurt him. He’s awkward, introverted, sassy, intelligent, and a bit diabolical. I do like his added backstory and how it was wrapped up, even if it was a bit predictable. He somehow reminds me of both the kind old man who lives down the street and the preppy teenaged girl from high school(what? He IS kinda effeminate- and the hair is NOT helping). Long story short, I would die for him.

This review’s gotten more than a little long, so I’mma cut it off. Still, it’s very obvious why this is my favorite movie...

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is one of my all time fave films and is a good remake of the classic with Gene Wilder. I think some parts are dark (Johnny Depp’s Willy Wonka is portrayed as weirder than the Gene Wilder Wonka in the 70’s version) but that’s just Tim Burton’s style. The music is really good (not just the Oompa Loompas singing “Oompa loompa doopity doo I got another puzzle for you.”) and every song is based on like a 70’s disco song or an 80’s rock ballad which is really nice. The effects are awesome (especially the chocolate river) and the acting was good but Gene Wilder will always be Willy Wonka

Depiction of Oompa Loompas basically is almost entirely based in stereotypes about Indiginous People. Not even close to acceptable.

Also, Johnny Depp just doesn't work as Wonka. The older version of this movie is way better.

Ok. I understand that they wanted to make a new version of the original story which was actually called Willie Wonka and the chocolate factory but why would they give that position or creating producing and or directing the movie to Tim Burton. He is scary beyond all reason, and when “The nightmare before Christmas” became a movie under the title of “A Walt Disney Film” that is just the exact moment to stop, take the remote control turn off the tv, and or throw it out the window. His short films and creations he makes are so overrated that I wish I didn’t have to believe the fact that people and children like him and his productions. Nothing but a mediocre screw up TRYING to create something that anyone and everyone should actually- could be fond of. What a loser. Can’t believe that anyone likes him. The movie is below ok and only some can actually understand the darkness or the purpose that willie allowed people to visit the factory. I also don’t know why Johnny would even have the slightest bit of desire to be in at least ONE of Burton’s films. For example, the Corpse Bride. Never seen it, (never will) but from the looks of the trailer, it’s stupid and weird enough. He should just leave the whole Disney brand forever and then I’d be happy and satisfied to myself. Buying or even renting this movie would be a complete and total retarded rip-off.

I personally loved this movie because.... well,I love because I love chocolate 🍫, and when I saw that place in the movie that looks like(or is)a garden I said to myself “I wish I can go/be there” when I watched this movie I remember saying” what will happen

i like the movie so much more and i love johnny depp and his willy wonka character and i love charlie bucket and there my two favorite characters is willy wonka and charlie its a good movie its a little dark but i like it anyway

Not bad the original I liked but it just the singing drove me crazy and when they entered the factory with a bunch of candy the music sounds like a horror movie

But the only thing that sucked about it was how the other children lose the same way well 90% of he time

It’s a great family movie that brings to life the magic of the book. Wonderful acting.

The original was a classic movie that a lot of people love, but this....is good on its own. It is a remake, I didn’t expect much, but I was surprised to see how it was very close to the book. This, and Johnny Depp didn’t do too bad in this. It wasn’t like his other roles, but it was a pretty okay movie overall.

I get what they’re trying to do here. Take a classic (Gene Wilder version), inject it with stimulants, give the actors whiter teeth, and off we go. Johnny Depp is predictable and doesn’t let us forget it’s him underneath all that makeup and goofy hair. The sweetness and charm of the original has been replaced by the sheen and stench of modern day Hollywood. Typical. Next thing you know, they’ll be doing a remake of Mary Poppins with Miley Cyrus as the lead. Do yourself a favor and avoid this.

This is a movie that has everything you expect. Beautiful, beautiful scenery and outstanding performances. I seriously disagree with everyone who thinks Johnny Depp's acting is weird and dark. Plus it's less nightmare overdrive than the original.

I think this movie is great because i really liked this shrinking chocolate bar scene where the candy bar disappears and reappears again.You should see it ,definitely worth it.

This movie is great! The 1971 version wasn't as good, like they weren't geese... They're squirrels and where in the book did Charlie and uncle joe have the bubbly drink? This movie is more realistic and better overall.

For all of you that say this is a horrible remake, I think that you don't realize this isn't a remake. Tim Burton made his own version based off the BOOK not the previous Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie! I love Tim Burtons style and I like the modern movie effects that they have today.

Johnny Depp is known for his great acting in most movies......but not this one. While there is enough heart and enjoyment to this movie as well as new improved OOMPA LOOOMPAS this movie still lacks the heart and enjoyment that the old one had.

Too many special effects, I guess when you can’t make a good movie you just pack it with special effects and hope for the best. Tim Burton should go back to claymation.

There's a million things wrong with this movie… depp's acting (which is usually incredible), the lack of character development, the completely unnecessary diving into the "history" of willy wonka, the new creepy/eery tone of the movie (turning a children' story into a pseudo horror flick), the sexual references (the squirrel's nuts, etc…) and so much more…

Charlie, at the end of "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory," gets the factory and the characters don't even look like each other.

And Gene Wilder played a funnier and better character in the movie and was very wise about himself and why would Johnny Depp play as Willy Wonka? He doesn't even have a candy man voice within him.

I can understand how redos of movies are made for the younger demograpchic.....im 16 and i watched the movie from the 1970s... this is just pure torture to anyone who liked that movie. Everything was re done and the plot was almost exactly the same except for the 5 minutes worth of developement between wonka and his dad. Its god awful, dont buy dont rent, if someone ever shows it for free and there are free snacks, get the snacks, and get out of there fast.

Gene Wilder's brilliant interpretation of the character remains the standard.

You can't improve a perfect film. I'm a big Johnny D fan, but he is no Gene Wilder. This movie does not inspire but rather offends to often in its rather long one hour and 55 minutes. It's creepy in the wrong way.

Just for the record people, you wanna talk about original, then read the book. This movie goes closer to the books actual storyline. The first movie was good, but I wouldn't call it the original when this movie went more with the original book story then the first one did. I loved this movie though, fantastic job Tim, still awesome as always!!

This is completely different than the old version. It is not as interesting and fun to watch as the old one was. A movie isin't good just because of who was in it. It has to have the right scenery, and the right sort of mood. Just because, say, Oprah was in a movie doesn't mean it's gonna be good.

The original movie was very good. Normally, I like Tim Burton's movies, but this was absolutely terrible. Johnny Depp as Willie Wonka was TERRIBLE, they ruined the whole movie. His dark interpretations of innocent characters often leave you wondering why you ever watched his movies.

I hated this movie! The original was the best. The only part I liked in this movie was the end when it shows all the kids after what happened to them. Like hoe Mike TV was really tall and Violet was all Purple. That was funny, but I loved the original. The music was great and the Oompa Loompas were cool. I hated how in this one they used the same guy. That was STUPID. So don't buy this one, buy the original movie!!

Willy wanka did a really good job with acting

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has gorgeous scenery and wonderfully cast actors, especially Johnny Depp who plays Willy Wonka (amazing performance!) and Freddie Highmore as Charlie Bucket. I personally liked this version better than Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with Gene Wilder because it is so much closer to the book and I think it is more interesting. Great movie!

By far the worst remake that I've ever seen, the original wins hands down.

I admit, the Disney-esque 1971 version with Gene Wilder is entertaining but I always thought it was cheesey. This was way better. Believe me.

has anyone read the book? i mean, that's what the movie is based one. this is WAY closer to the atmosphere in the book than the 70s film! johnny depp is amazing in this movie. when i saw the cover, i thought this would be the most rediculous movie, but then i saw it. I recommend this movie to those who actually appreciate the original author's book!

Tim Burton makes an eye candy of a film. It's clever and quirky and has one of the best actors (Depp) in it to support the awesome role of Willie Wonka.

this movie is so AMazing!!! It grows on you, too. When I first saw it in theaters, I thought that it was okay, but not great. Now I think that it a colorful, creepy, child scarring masterpeice of Burton's with a very Michael Jackson-y Depp, which only added to the story. Altogether wonderful.

Fantastic movie, much creepier and much closer to the book than the pathetic 70's one with gene wilder. phenomenal cast and johnny depp is amazing in it (of course). also has christopher lee as wonka's father-very cool.
