Description

Vowing to go straight, a recidivist convenience store bandit H.I. (Nicolas Cage) proposes marriage to police department photographer Ed (Holly Hunter), whom he's come to know quite well after so many trips to jail. All is wedded bliss for the unlikely couple until they discover she's unable to get pregnant. Turned down by every adoption agency in town thanks to H.I.'s rowdy past, it does not take long before they realize the only solution--kidnap one of the town's celebrated "Arizona Quintuplets" and hit the road! But the road is never smooth, and soon H.I.'s convict friends, his greedy boss and a ruthless motorcycle-riding bounty hunter become involved in the scheme to possess the famous baby.

Was a boring movie telling a story that doesn’t need telling. The good reviews drove me to give it a shot; I regret it.

So much talent behind and in front of the screen, and so many layers to explore beyond an initial viewing. Cinematographer? Barry Sonnenfeld. Smoke a big doob and enjoy this perfect gem of a movie.

My mother told my sister and I about this movie. Ever since we watched it, we can't get enough of it. We love it. Especially the parts where Holly Hunter's character says, "I love him so much!" And " Everything's chaaaanged!!" Lol.

While this may not be Nic's best movie, it definitely is his best perfect-facial-expression performance.
And Holly is her hilarious trademark dramatically neurotic self.

I loved this movie, the lines are great, the acting spot on. add Tex Cobb, great as the biker freak, head hunter.
After Nicks breakout movie Valley Girl, this one put him front and center. has that pulp fiction feel. but with great witt and some of the best one liners. If you have never seen this movie, buy it. it made me laugh like I was kid, watching the 3 stooges.

I love the coen brothers, and had never seen this movie. So after watching it I say it was ok. Had a few good laughs. The acting was over the top and corny but still funny. The story is preposterous, but it's a comedy so it don't really matter. My least favorite movie from these guys, but still worth renting.

This was Nick in his prime. Way before he sold out and started doing
movies like The Rock,Con Air and Oh ya, Face Off. What a piece
of ...
I liked him better when he was an actor, not a movie star.
I guess he needed more money than he could spend.

This movie is SO FUNNY!! I would love to rent it but apparently the RENTAL folder is not showing up in my library. I downloaded the new version on my windows and mac machine (MEETS REQUIREMENTS) and the rental folder is not there. How can they come out with an update and not be prepared. Now a specialist tells me that I have to wait for an update to come out to address this issue. Thanks a lot APPLE and iTunes!! (Old note Months ago)
Hey!!! I just checked today and I see that Raising Arizona is available to purchase. Thanks iTunes you have just made my day!! Also I found out that the rental folder does not appear unless you rent a movie but I have a 5th Generation iPod and you can't put rentals on them. I'll be purchasing it later on this evening when I get off of work. Thanks for hearing my CRY iTunes!! (5/27/08)

the humor just isn't as good as I remember. I don't recommend it. I do like the Cohen brothers, but this movie just hasn't aged as well as I would have liked. I watched it with my girlfriend and I felt kind of the fool for recommending it to her. The jokes just didn't seem as good. Maybe it is too old...

The Coen brothers release classic after classic. It's nice to be able to see that even though they've been in the business a while, they still do what they do best, which is everything. This movie and all others by the Coen brothers are in a league of their own. Totally worth the purchase.

Far-fetched. Not believable. Un-entertaining. Plot might appeal to drunks. Save your iTunes cash and borrow this one from the public library or from a friend with a bad taste in comedy. I am glad Nicholas Cage later redeemed his career in subsequent films.

This is a truly inspired comedy. Not for everybody, perhaps, but genuinely funny take on the American dream with an absolutely kooky perspective, a fantastic script and a star-studded cast. Maybe it is because I saw it for the first time while living overseas, but I have always found this movie to be a painfully funny send-up of the United States - good natured, but spot on. Make you cringe kind of funny like the Office. Give it a try!

Raising Arizona is my all time favorite movie and is one of the most quotable movies ever made. You've got to love a movie that has a line like "You've got your health, what would you want with a job??". If you haven't seen it, you are in for a treat. The Coen brothers at their best.

Still as fresh as the year it was released...

One of the best Coen brothers best, this movie is brilliant on many levels. Narrated by in 3rd person by the main character H.I. (Nick Cage) it follows his bumbling attempts at trying to go down a straight road of and have a normal life with his police-officer wife Edwina (Holly Hunter), aka Ed, only to have his past catch up to him and turn it upside down. Ed's strong desire to have a baby coupled with H.I.'s lament that "her insides were a rocky place where my seed could find no purchase", lead them to kidnap one of the five quintuplets given birth my the wife of cheap-furniture magnate, Nathan Arizona (Trey Wilson).
With a bothered conscience, and a little help from some of H.I.'s former cellmates (John Goodman and William Forsythe), a wife-swapping boss (Sam McMurray), and a "Lone Biker of the Apocalypse" (Randall "Tex" Cobb), the couple - with Junior in tow - try their best to keep it together and "do what's right".
The setting and costumes make the whole thing seem surreal, yet believeable. You won't think of Arizona the same way again.

this is an amazing movie. the cinematography, the story, the characters & the acting are priceless. most movie previews show you all the best parts of a film so when you finally do go & see it there's nothing left to enjoy. this movie's preview is an accurate barameter of what the entire movie has in store.
movie studios these days seem to view a script as that thing that loosely ties all the special effects together. this movie's script is one that even other writers point to as inspiration. too bad the studio executives are overlooking the value of good writers.
it is truly amazing what a great script, very talented actors & an athletic cameraman can accomplish.
