Harrison Ford stars as Jack Ryan in this explosive thriller based on Tom Clancy's international best-seller. His days as an intelligence agent behind him, former CIA analyst Jack Ryan has traveled to London to vacation with his wife (Anne Archer, Fatal Attraction) and child (Thora Birch, All I Want For Christmas). Meeting his family outside of Buckingham Palace, Ryan is caught in the middle of a terrorist attack on Lord Holmes (James Fox, The Russian House), a member of the Royal Family. Ryan helps to thwart Holmes' assailants and becomes a local hero. But Ryan's courageous act marks him as a target in the sights of the terrorist (Sean Bean, Stormy Monday) whose brother he killed. Harrison Ford is all he can be and more here. This movie has credible story line and good action. Enjoy this movie. I did.

When a movie or film is based on a particular book, then the natural instinct is to believe the novel is better. This is true in the case of Patriot Games as well, even though Harrison Ford does a superb job of filling the role of analyst extraordinare Jack Ryan. The acting is, for the most part, top notch. But the subtle changes from Clancy's magnificent work are enough to degrade the intricacy of the ultimate plot.
Despite all this, Patriot Games is an excellent movie of your a fan of the Ryan series. After this and Clear and Present Danger, you won't be able to imagine anyone else as Jack Ryan.

IM NOT SURE HOW PEOPLE COULD COMPARE PATRIOT GAMES AND THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER.TO ME THEY ARE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FILMS.SURE THE CHARATERS ARE THE SAME.THAT ASIDE,THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE FILMS EVER AND HAVING PATRIOT GAMES COMING AFTER IT ADDS TO THE FRANCHISE WITH A NEW AND FRESH PERSPECTIVE.

Okay, I'm always going to be biased towards the books a particular movie is based upon. However, this movie will definitely grab you by the throat. The substitution of Ford for Baldwin was an excellent choice, although I did like Baldwin as Ryan as well. It's just that Ford has, well, the qualities of what I expect from Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, right down to the ability to partray a flash temper the is hidden deep in the shy persona normally displayed.
This one is perfect both as a political thriller and as an action-adventure, and parents can relate to both Drs. Ryan (Ford and Archer), as they struggle to do what any parent or spouse would do to protect their families under the worst conditions. Get the book, the audio book, and the movie. It's all good.

...not about the purported iTunes bias (doesn't seem to be any on the surface) but the motives of those upset with iTunes for the supposed bashing in the plot summary. What is so bashing about "explosive thriller" etc, etc. ??? Was the the write-up not filled enough with praise for the film that it qualifies as "bashing" ?? Makes no sense. The summary doesn't even go so far as to take a political bent (as in ...siding with the IRA for example) The whole thing smacks of folks writing bogus product reviews for amazon. Either that or these folks are just immature and stupid. Regardless, it's a good flick ...about Clancy's least technical and most humanistic thrillers.

I'm sure the people over at Paramount would not be too happy to see a summary that is as negative as that. Great way sell a product, bash it and put it down. I thought the movie was very ENTERTAINING! which movies are suppose to be. Leave the side comments out and just describe the movie.

Yes! Way to tell it like it is, iTunes. I read this book and loved it, so I rented the movie. I have been ranting for years about how this movie was garbage, it Changed the entire ending! Jack Ryan didn't kill the terrorist in the end in the book because it would put him on the same low level as the "bad-guy" which was the main theme of Clancy's book but the terrorist EXPLODED in the movie! I am sure this movie wasn't one of Clancy's Favorites

Harrison Ford is a much better actor than Alec Baldwin let alone a better Jack Ryan. This movie is my 2nd favorite Ryan after Clear And Present Danger.

Nice review iTunes. That's a brilliant way to sell a movie. While the plot to attack Ryan's seaside home is farfetched, the movie is fun and intense. After all, it is a work of fiction. What's more unbelievable is Ben Affleck as Jack Ryan in The Sum of All Fears. Gimme a break man.

Hey iTunes...what's the deal with the slant in the plot summary? I'm sure if I wanted an editorial, I would have just skipped to the comment section. Is there some reason you hate this movie? Are you just another repressed Alec Baldwin fan? I think this film is great, and isn't that far off the script from the book. If you are looking for a Clancy film that really departs from the book storyline, why not slam "The Sum of All Fears" instead?
