MMA fighter Cole Young, accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritage—or why Outworld's Emperor Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down. Fearing for his family's safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade at the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden, an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao and rogue mercenary Kano, as he prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcana—the immense power from within his soul—in time to save not only his family, but to stop Outworld once and for all?

If you are looking for deep storytelling, then go watch the revenant. If you want realism, then go watch the raid. If you want to see the characters you know and love from the mortal Kombat series in their best form yet on the silver screen, then this is for you.

Having seen the original as a kid and really liking it only to re-watch it as an adult and realizing it’s actually not a good movie at all. It still manages to be better than the nonsensical, boring safe remake. At least the original had cool fight scenes and had a score that went exceptionally well with the movie, the remake couldn’t even do that. And cole?!? What a pointless boring character. Don’t waste any of your money on it and if your still curious wait till you can see it for free somehow. Most of you who know what a good movie is will appreciate the advice.

If you liked the original movies and have a sense of what movie is do not waste your time. On the other hand, if you’ve never seen mortal kombat and you have kids it may be worth your time.
Do not buy for this price just wait. I seriously think the movies are failing us these days.

Let me say as a fan of the 1st movie this one was almost as good.where the 1st one probably had better acting and FX,this one I think had better fight scenes and a deeper story.I would say to those that didn't like it both have there merits.For a $3.99 rental I was very satisfied and entertained.It might be a little to gory for some small children but besides that very very good!!!

The first two original MKs were so cheesy and goofy. This one is a little more serious with great special effects. I could careless about story. I want to see fighting and cool moves. This definitely delivered! I love the characters and the backstory of Scorpion and Sub-Zero.

I loved the characters in the movie and the bloody combat. The portrayals of both Scorpion and Sub-Zero was epic. The story was so so but otherwise a great watch for any Mortal Kombat fan.

Don’t listen to the haters they just hating on this one because they’re fans of the first and second one. In my opinion the first one was great, The second one Was trash. This one is amazing. This one has great action scenes, I love that they show a lot of blood and fatalities, pretty good storyline leading up to the tournament and lot of other great things in this movie.

This new MK was OK. Not horrible, but not great either. It was worth a watch, but not repeat performances. Script was boring, the acting felt forced, and the plot was sketchy at best. I expected much more.
Definitely NOT worth the $25 Apple is trying to charge. Wait until this movie is in the $10 bin.

The original 2 were better. Main character is a complete loser who has no lines of dialogue. There’s about 3 set pieces in the entire movie. The villian is a joke. There’s literally no redeeming qualities to this movie besides the fatalities which are cool for about 2 seconds

If your a real fan of the video game or the first movie. You will not like this movie. The action is good but this story line isn’t what real fans assumed it would be. Goro dies in his first fight, Shang tsung doesn’t morph into anyone, and the storyline is trash. I assume they will be coming back with sequels cuz this ending isn’t it.

This movie is downright terrible. The first 10 minutes or so that showed Scorpion’s backstory followed by Lord Raiden saving his baby was the best part of the film. After that the rest of the film’s tone changes and feels like it was directed by two different directors. The casting was wrong except for Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Raiden. For a real Mortal Kombat movie watch the original 1995 film followed by its 1997 sequel.

Me and my wife absolutely love this movie. They had just the right amount of good acting with plenty of fight scenes and I love the fact for once there’s lots of blood in this movie!! It really felt like I was watching of movie truly based off a video game and we personally thought it was very well done. I can’t wait for the next one.

I was around th watch the first mortal kombat movies in the theatre. At the time that was cool and later rewatching them I could not figure out how I didn’t see how bad they were. One would assume the writers all learned a lesson from that and at least tried to make a better movie. The opening had hope that maybe they found a redemption story to stick to and follow. But they messed that all up. I watched this free when it streamed and I wanted my time back. I wanted the money back that I could’ve ended up spending on this. For this to be so bad, I have to ask what they left on the cutting room floor and knowing stuff gets taken out, did they remove some of the character development shots? Please don’t waste your time. Playing the video game is better and can tell a better story each time, win or lose than this movie.
I get the other 5-star reviewers are trying to be funny. I can’t even play along this movie is so bad. But you have been warned. At least invite friends over to enjoy this terrible film with. You can MST3K it. That would make it better.
