Needed a Better Upfront Plot

Spoiler Alert: Eva Noblezada is 22+ in this film.
This is another one of those pre-COVID leftover movies standing alongside bland titles like The Nest, and My Salinger Year from 2018-2019’s third rate batch of studio films to keep the pandemic looking seamless on TV.
This sad story of immigration and finding a way to sing needed to pick more of a focal point from the start. The whole movie, you’re debating whether each part you see next is about feel good singing or running from the law.
The movie has a dragging first 60 minutes. After that time, things slowly start to make less sense and a lot doesn’t sew up at the ending. Eva throughout this movie takes many unpractical turns and decides to live on the edge as a “teen”.
(think, The Nest).
Awful Kids rehearsal screenwriting included for everybody on this set. Unexpected romance is an afterthought. Methods to their madness, like finding an expert immigration lawyer, are entirely forgotten at the conclusion.
Worry less about business as usual in 2020 and pick a real top class gem from the past years for your next movie night.
