The main charactors as portrayed in the movie stray far from sworn testimony by themselves and others. Wahlberg's role as Mike Williams {Film Consultant and rig survivor} did not perform heroics depicted. Under oath, he freely admitted stepping over two injured co-workers racing to save himself.
Kurt Russell as rig manager "Mr. Jimmy" is a no nonsense, straight-shootin' figure who fights tooth and nail to assure a SAFE well completion. Under oath he stated he had no safety issue concerns. As in the movie, he WAS taking a shower when the rig exploded, is about the only thing about Mr. Jimmy thatis accurately refleted in the movie. Gina Rodriguez playing the part of Andrea Fleytas, a bridge worker monitoring alarm status panels. Hollywood has this person doing her utmost to alert rig crew of danger and send out maydays. Evidence and Ms. Fleytas' own testimony contradicts this. It is estimated that from 60 to 90 seconds transpired from the time gas alarms appeared at her station and the explosion she froze.... Neither informing others nor most importantly hitting the general alarm which was her primary reason for being on the bridge and may have saved lives. Other events in the movie are simply 180 degrees off from the truth. Berg gave Transocean and the rig workers a pass. The villian is and should be BP. But bad decisions and hubris of Deepwater Horizon
rig workers contributed a substantial amount to this disaster. Understand the need to be sympathetic
to survivors and families of deceased. And I know it is not a documentary. Berg just bent too far from the facts. Not a bad movie but mostly fiction.
