Description

Jazmine Crawford doesn’t make decisions. She doesn’t make choices. She doesn’t make friends. Jazmine Crawford only wants one thing: to be invisible. For Jazmine, it’s a lot easier to take out her hearing aid and drift along pretending that nothing’s wrong than it is to admit that she’s heartbroken about her dad dying. She’s been drifting and ignoring her over-worried mum for four years now.
When bad girl Shalini and her mates adopt Jazmine, she quickly finds herself involved in more than she can handle. Sitting in disgrace in the principal’s office, Jazmine is offered a choice: help drama teacher Miss Fraser in the upcoming production of The Secret Garden or face a four week suspension.
It’s Miss Fraser who clinches the decision. “I believe in you Jazmine,” she says. “I know you can do this.” And Jazmine, terrified, disbelieving and elated all at the same time, joins the play.
For a while it’s all good. Drama star and chocolate lover Liam is friendly and Jazmine realises that making friends, talking to her mother and feeling her emotions isn’t as scary as she thought. In a final happy twist of fate, acting diva Angela quits the play and with only a week to go, Miss Fraser asks Jazmine to take on the main role of Mary.
But then Shalini returns from her suspension. She’s out for payback, and she has just the ammunition she needs to force Jazmine to quit the play and go back to her old ways.
Will Jazmine be confident enough to stand up for herself against Shalini? Will Liam still like her if he finds out who she really is? And does she have the strength to face the truth about her father’s suicide?

I loved this young adult novel. The characters were relatable and believable. The plot was intriguing—I couldn’t put it down! And the lessons and humanity in the story were beautiful. It made me cry, which, for me, is the sign of a good story!

Good read.

I was expecting more out of it based on the ratings. But it's an okay read. I would definitely recommend it to adolescents, or anyone who's ever felt like they don't belong. It's relatable, but I'd say this particular book is aimed for young adolescents. Not a huge fan, but it was good.

It was ok.

I read a lot, saw a lot of great reviews of this book. It was just ok. A decent story line but a little boring and felt dragged out. Predictable and I wouldn't read it again.

Fabulous Read

I loved this book! It's was a creative combination of defining friendship, finding inner strength, and accepting personal realities. It taps into too many emotions to list.
This would be a great read for an adult/child book club. I'll be recommending it to my 5th grade readers. I'm anxious to hear their thoughts and spark conversation.

Great book!!!

I relate to this book in a way. I want to be invisible, but I also kind of want to be seen. It seems confusing, but the author really did a great job of expelling Jazmine's emotions :) bravo and thank you

Amazing novel

This book was excellent. I read it nonstop even though it was a little confusing because of the Australian terms used like, canteen and petrol. But I got the hang of it and it turned out be a very great book.

Fantastic book

It is hard to capture my attention and hold it but the cover was magneto zing and the script was perfect. I felt like I could completely relate to everything going on. It was dramatic but not in an over the top way and had my heart racing through parts. I felt as if I were her. I was completely consumed in her world. I was very moved by this book and has caused me to want to check out her other books. :) definitely worth five stars.

I loved it!

I love books! And I'd have to say, that this is one of my favorites. Now, I know this sounds weird but, when I read a book, It feels like I'm the main character. I hear what they hear, feel what they feel, think what they think, and see what they see. And it's not just with this book! There are more books I've read and felt the same way. I don't know if It happens to everyone, but it's amazing living in a new world that you never thought you could.

Something to think about for the future

I greatly enjoyed this book. Some of the words I didn't know completely understand because I am not English I am in fact American. I will be reading more of these books by this author. Books are just something I have always loved. This book was heartfelt and wonderfully written. Any reader could really connect with the main character if they have ever felt alone and just wanted to disappear. Thank you for your great book.

An Awesome Read

What an amazingly, emotional, true to life novel! Jazmine's story touched my heart. Anyone who has ever felt awkward, different, or out of place (pretty much everyone at some time or other) needs to read this story! A must for every middle school library, teenager, parent, teacher, or anyone who needs to be reminded or reassured of how every life story is unique; of how every individual needs to be accepted and loved, no matter their story or circumstance; and, most importantly, how we need to accept and love ourselves for who we are. Kudos and thanks to Cecily Anne Patterson for a well written story that inspires compassion from the reader for every character...even for those whom we don't completely understand or even like all that well.

This is great book! I can relate to this girl in similarities because I am completely deaf and dreams of being an actress. Invisible

One of my favorite all-time books has been "The Secret Garden" and I love how the author has woven it into her story about a spunky young girl that learns to listen to the positive voices inside herself, inspite of her trepidation and fears. I recommend this book to young girls and to all of us that still have that young girl inside us! I too was once "Invisible".

Interesting

I want to say this is a great book for teenagers, but I haven't been a teenager for over 20 years (*gasp!*) So I'm just going to tell you MY current truth; this book was fun as hell. I had a long rainy day ahead of me this past weekend, and I desperately wanted to avoid all human contact since it was a popular & overcrowded (with tourists) weekend here, so I decided to find a book that looked interesting on iTunes and become one with my sofa. I have zero regrets on that decision.
This book was well written, it had decent character development, and so many parts/characters were relatable. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and would absolutely enjoy another rainy afternoon read by this author.
Doesn't matter what age group is being targeted, if it's a good read, it's a good read.... & this was.

Great! Just Really Great!

Wow! This has to be one of the best books I have read in ages. There was such a great main character, a girl with a quiet strength and dignity who just had to find herself.
Despite a sad twist, the book was overall an optimistic read that really left me amazed. The themes it presents are put into terms younger girls can understand without watering them down or selling the girls short.
Really, I was very impressed with this book an plan to share it with my daughter when I have one!

INTENSE

Invisible is an incredible and emotionally moving read. I was able to connect with the main character, Jazmine, partly because I was bullied severely by girls (and boys) like Shalini. It is an incredible read , and I can not wait for a sequel. AMAZING!

Transparent

This book depicts the life of a girl who tries to push the world aside once his Dad dies. This girl is Jazmine she is not completely deaf, but uses her inaccurate hearing as a way to escape, life. After, having to move from place to place until settling at the place where the book is plotted. Jazmine ignores everything as though she is invisible, however a situation allows her to make a decision that influences her real self to be visible. The book is transparent at times, however overall it is inspiring to look optimistically. Good book!!

It's great!!!😃

I loved this book! This book is about a girl named Jazmine and she's deaf. So she thinks she's invisible because she's deaf.
I have some questions about the book,
Why does Shalini have to be mean to Jazmine and everybody?
And I don't understand why and how kids and adults are deaf.
Super dopier!!!!

Great read

This is a great book for teenage girls, mothers of teenage girls, anyone who's ever been a teenage girl, anyone who's ever felt different or been bullied. Maybe even for those who have been a bully. It deals with all that and grief over losing a loved one, yet isn't melodramatic or maudlin. It makes you laugh and smile as well. Reminded me of what a first crush felt like, even!
Any nickname I'd use is taken
