A Book with Series of Soul-awakening Queries
The Querist by George Berkeley differs from most books, as it records series of questions without providing any answer. According to Bertrand Russell, a great book would make its reader think, and The Querist surely provoked thoughts from its readers. Via asking continuous questions, George Berkeley expressed his deep concern toward various aspects of what build or ruin a society ranging from religion to politics, from economic to education, from domestic affairs to foreign ones, and etc. Some questions are challenging while some are sardonic; some questions are straightforward while some are circuitous; some questions have a definite answer while others are open to debate. While George Berkeley’s questions are highly related to context in his own era, readers surely would benefit from trying to answer some of the questions according to their own cases.
