Book one

I enjoyed this book, understanding that background is needed in the development of the series. Poor Frey is an incomplete and shunned child. Our good author begins to fill in the pieces as we stand alongside her in this story.
Thankfully, we are treated to new mysterious characters, new environs and vistas as she departs her familial village, taking to the forest and the trails with her dubious friends. Growing emotionally stronger as she fills in the gaps of her life, she also becomes aware of her "special gifts" in this new land of Elves and Humans. Looking forward to the next book.

Frey book one

I really enjoyed reading this book. But it did not answer any questions during the reading. It's slightly frustrating. Like watching the show Lost. I don't want to purchase the second book if it follows that same pattern. I was definitely glued to it while reading it. I would recommend. But be prepared to be kept wondering what is really going on.

Okay young adult adventure

A free novel most appropriate for younger adults. Has somewhat a high school quality. The author hints at Frey's hidden potential but she is never empowered in the story. She is dependent and protected. The truth of who she is kept from her. Dialogue between her and the romantic interest is rare, which interferes with the development of the relationship and keeps things "survacey" Most disturbing is the practice by one female character to repeatedly drug Frey against her will, yet they remain friends.

Hoping to see more from author

I am a little picky with my literature but I actually really enjoyed this book. The plot could have been a little expanded in some parts to better explain things or give background but overall, it was a great read.

Choppy and Vexing

Each scene could use four or more extra pages to fully fill out the concept, and to push the story forward while creating dynamic and likable characters. The author relies heavily on tired character tropes, and uses lazy and ill thought out scene transitions to propel the story forward and leave the reader with a sense of mystery (the constant fainting and falling asleep). The author doesn't take the time to set up a background, or a plausible setting, leaving the reader with a confusing and unfulfilling story.

Hard to Read

This book has great potential. The idea is good, but the book itself it really hard to read. The author rights in a way that is hard to understand. I also couldn't connect with the characters. I never have a hard time reading books, this was the first.

Pretty boring

I didn’t get much past chapter 4, so this book may get better - but I couldn’t connect with it enough to want to find out. The age old adage of show-don’t-tell seems to have been forgotten as there is very little, if any description. Also, in the first chapter we’re led to believe that this character has almost no magical talent whatsoever. So the fact that she is all of a sudden able to use magic to kill something just by thinking about it, is ridiculous.
Obviously as I didn’t read it, I could be wrong, but this seemed to be turning into a a case of too powerful too quickly that the author risked her character becoming a Mary Sue.
If you have a long reading list of books, don’t bother with this one.

Promising story

The story itself is really interesting but the lack of interaction and conversation between the characters leaves a lot to be desired. Overall it's a good read, hope the next book moves faster and has better character interactions!

Boring

This book had promise, but it was very slow going for me. You are kept in the dark about what's happening for too long and what is meant to keep you wondering left me yawning.

A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!!!

At first the book is a little hard to get into but then it picks up and find that you can't put it down! I just loved it!!! The character were a little hard to get a fell for in this book and I had to read all the way to the end to put some of the pieces together but other than that it was A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!! I really recommend you read this book if you want to be entertainment, thrilled, upset, and then blown away!!! ^_^

So-so

This story had good foundation but the writing itself was a bit choppy. As much as I wanted to get into the story I couldn't because the writing did not flow properly. I was more frustrated at the fact that i really liked the setting but the writing just didn't allow me to get to know the characters before diving into the plot itself. Overall, I would have to give this book a C.

Haley's Review of Frey

First of all, I received a copy of this book signed from the author so my thanks to Melissa Wright!
*Spoiler Alert.*
This is the best kind of story: action packed, a little bit of sexual tension, and a heroin who has yet to find herself. Literally, in this case.
Freya, Elfreda, Frey...this is our main character! But she doesn't know who she is. And she doesn't know that she doesn't know who she is because all of her memories have been stripped from her. The story starts in a small Elvin town,(Yes, this story is about ELVES:), where Frey lives with her completely nuts Aunt Fannie. But Frey is quite unlike the others. She has no magic. She can't even make plants grow! Then she accidentally chokes a girl with her thoughts. And a man called Chevelle is eliciting strange reactions in Frey. She doesn’t know if he’s to help her or hurt her. When things begin to spiral out of control, Frey does the only thing she can and runs. But what she finds makes her question the truth of everything. It seems that the Grand Counsel of Elves have put binds on her, but the only way to take those binds off are to kill all the members. And so, with dear Chevelle in tow, that is exactly what starts coming to pass.
This is really a spectacular piece of literature. The writing is not only well done without any errors but it’s eloquent and easily flows between the characters. The characters seem life like in reactions and abilities, yet stay within the bounds of the fantasy world they were created for. They are…memorable. Fun to read, simple to hope for, best to devour but also good to take in slowly. The plot is twists and turns in manners that are unexpected. I was constantly on the edge of my seat.
What I really liked though is Freya. At the start we are presented with this woman who does not have any idea who she is, but won’t even fight back. As we progress we begin to see the shifting of another person within Frey. A wild, strong person that is longing to be brought out. And the journey is not a pleasant one. (Well, it wouldn’t be when all of your memories were blocked and the only way to get them back was by killing those who bound you in the first place, would it?)
One last thing to adress. The romance-my favorite part!!!-Chevelle is the love interest here, and maybe I haven't made this clear with other reviews but I loved the guys that are completly and utterly lost for thier girl, the ones that have imperfections and still are drop dead and willing to do whatever to protect! That perfectly discribes Chevelle. He is loyal, he is so very handsom *sigh, I love blue eyes. Dark and deep like the sea*, and he is fierce.
Overall, I was dissatisfied with nothing. I really really really enjoyed Frey.
