Description

Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell returned from his star-crossed mission in Afghanistan with his bones shattered and his heart broken. So many had given their lives to save him-and he would have readily done the same for them. As he recuperated, he wondered why he and others, from America's founding to today, had been willing to sacrifice everything-including themselves-for the sake of family, nation, and freedom.
In Service, we follow Marcus Luttrell to Iraq, where he returns to the battlefield as a member of SEAL Team 5 to help take on the most dangerous city in the world: Ramadi, the capital of war-torn Al Anbar Province. There, in six months of high-intensity urban combat, he would be part of what has been called the greatest victory in the history of U.S. Special Operations forces. We also return to Afghanistan and Operation Redwing, where Luttrell offers powerful new details about his miraculous rescue. Throughout, he reflects on what it really means to take on a higher calling, about the men he's seen lose their lives for their country, and the legacy of those who came and bled before.
A thrilling war story, Service is also a profoundly moving tribute to the warrior brotherhood, to the belief that nobody goes it alone, and no one will be left behind.

I am myself a combat veteran and medic. This book was very intense and very real. It reminds all veterans that they serve a greater cause. God bless the fraternity of the US military.

Marcus does a great job telling the stories of True American Hero's, and things you didn't hear on the mainstream media. Great job.

Closure

I found this book from much more compelling than his first.
It is book that captures all the other phases he has gone through and includes the other branches of the service and it's members that touched his life.
This is book helps continue the healing process by identifying those who serve and honoring them.

Service Book review:

I loved his first book, Lone Survivor, this is a great sequel to that which continues to speak about his experiences in the Navy SEALS. Before reading this book you should go read The Lone Survivor to understand his story and where he comes from. This book, like the other puts you on the battlefield with marcus and his team mates and gives you a first hand account of what is going on over there on the other side of the globe. After reading this book and Lone Survivor I was motivated to watch some videos of Marcus speaking publicly about his story, I do want to go see him speak as well as see his movie. I recommend this book to any reader looking for a good dramatic action filled reading and to any reader who has read Lone Survivor.

Awesome book

This is a great book. I also read Lone Survivor, which is also very riveting. This shows a side of the military most if us don't realize or don't think about. We owe our servicemen great honor for what they do for us!

Mr. Joe Rea Phillips

This man is a true American hero. I am grateful for his service and his willingness to express from his heart his experiences. Reading his books gives one hope for America in a time when it seems that freedom is taken for granted and we have lost our way as a country. May God Bless Marcus and thank you for your service and your great books.

An amazing narrative of the true meaning of a Patriot. Through out history so many people have proudly answered our great country's call for warriors to stand and fight those desiring harm upon our freedoms. Marcus does a fantastic job of describing his epic life while honoring those who have served before, with, and yet to come. May the sounds of liberty forever ring and may we never forget those who gave so much.

Phenomenal book!

This book was an incredible read. I just finished it after only purchasing days ago. It's sad to read what our troops go through during war but, it's also amazing to see how humble they are such as, Marcus. For anyone that knows someone in the service, or has interest in the service. This is a great prospective of what it's like for the men and women wearing those uniforms, and for their families.

Full circle

This book hurts my heart to hear the pain suffered by the few who are at the tip of the sword. Godspeed to Morgan and your brothers of the teams. I am inspired to find a niche to continue service after retirement.

This was a very good book about the real life and the men and what they are like away from the battle. It was not as good as lone surveyor but still a very good book that got in to the lives of the many men that went through the battles.

Books by Marcus Luttrell

I have read all three. I have friends and family serving in the military. I know kids who are at all the academies. These books, bring tears to my eyes when I read of the heroism and courage of those who serve us all, and our country.
I realized while reading these books the "Why they do this" question I always had. I also realized that, after 9/11/2001, those who live on the rush of adrenaline, are the best to serve this Nation.
I have never met finer people than those who have served this great Nation.
When I sing THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER, it is for love of country, AND ALL WHO SERVE (past, present and future) and, as my high school American History teacher, Mrs. Hamilton would say, "If I ever hear the national anthem being played, and you not singing, I WILL HAUNT YOU!". Now I know why.
These BRAVE men AND women put their lives on the line for US, every day, and make life changing decisions, without hesitation.
GOD BLESS ALL OUR ARMED FORCES, ARMY, ARMY NATIONAL GUARD, RANGERS, AND GREEN BERETS (I have a nephew who serves in this elite division), NAVY, ALL THE SEAL TEAMS, MARINES, COAST GUARD, AIR FORCE (I know fine men who wore the USAF uniform and one, in particular, who is an Olympic Gold Medalist!), ALL BRANCHES, AND THE ELITE TEAMS who do things no ordinary man or woman would do. UOU ARE ALL SUPER HEROS!
Thank you all for your SERVICE to this great country, from one grateful American.
Thank you Marcus for writing about your experience, for your undying love of country, for your brother (I will pray for his safety), for your words on the pages. It could not have been easy to relive those painful moments.

Wow- again.

A follow-up to "Lone Survivor" that only Marcus Luttrell could have skillfully crafted. A must-read.

Intriguing book that was long overdue

This book focuses on the ideas and principles that draws a man (or woman) into military service. As a former special operations operator, I can attest to the spirit of brotherhood that Marcus writes about. 'Service' is a great view of the human side of these special men who serve our country in the SOG. I praise Marcus for writing about his Christianity and how his faith got him through many terrible moments. This book is money well spent, and will change the way many people view our spec-ops operators around the world.

Service

Mr. Lutrell's books should be a part of any history or leadership curriculum for 8th graders, high schools, and college. The essence of selflessness and true team work is not taught enough in our country. Our young people need this training more than they need all others as a foundation to succeed in other arenas and ultimately preserve our way of life going forward. 3/25/L, 0311

A question.

Did any one else have spots in the book where there was nothing? I had blank spots in a few spots throughout the book.

An American Hero

Marcus is an American Hero and in this book he reveals the stories of other American Heroes who performed alongside him and on the SEAL teams. Many lives were saved as a result of the work of these brave soldiers. FTWTTT (From The Womb To The Tomb)
