Description

One of School Library Journal's Best Fiction Books of 2011
If a violent battle destroyed the only world you've ever known, would you be brave enough to save who was left? Would love be strong enough to survive the fight? Either way, there's no turning back.
The Empyrean is the only home 15-year-old Waverly has ever known. Part of the first generation to be successfully conceived in deep space, she and her boyfriend Kieran will be pioneers of New Earth. Waverly knows she must marry young in order to have children who can carry on the mission, and Kieran, the handsome captain-to-be, has everything Waverly could want in a husband. Everyone is sure he's the best choice. Still, there's a part of Waverly that wants more from life than marriage, and she is secretly intrigued by the shy, darkly brilliant Seth.
Suddenly, Waverly's dreams are interrupted by the inconceivable – a violent betrayal by the Empyrean's sister ship, the New Horizon. The New Horizon's leaders are desperate to populate the new planet first, and will do anything to get what they need: young girls. In one pivotal moment, Waverly and Kieran are separated, and find themselves at the helm of dangerous missions, where every move has potentially devastating consequences, and decisions of the heart may lead to disaster.
Pulse-pounding and addictive, Glow begins Amy Kathleen Ryan's Sky Chasers--the most riveting series since The Hunger Games.

This book is terrific!

The story plot was enthralling, and I couldn't put it down no matter how hard I tried! I found myself reading until the wee hours of the morning... on a school night! The book is incredible, and the sequel arguably its equal.

It's thought provoking

I started this book on June 9th, but just finished it today. I don't usually take this long to read a book unless I lose interest. I lost interest after about 200 pages. The story just slowed down for me and I didn't like how the author would move from one story line to the next just as I was getting to know the characters and understand what was going on. Once I forced myself to get to around page 300 it started getting interesting again, but I was very disappointed with the ending. Now I have to read the second book if I want to know what happens to their parents and them. I don't like it when authors do this.

Good, but character archetypes are overused

I liked it A LOT, but it seems like every dynamic character I could match up with another character from YA fiction that I honestly liked more. Waverly is a cross between Max from Maximum Ride and Annabeth Chase from Percy Jackson (and maybe Katniss from The Hunger Games too). Kieran's like Percy Jackson or Peeta. Seth is like Battle of the Labyrinth era Nico di Angelo. It's the headstrong girl, the guy who feels the need to play hero, the mercenary with questionable sanity...I just felt like the characters were the same old thing that you see in most YA, and some other authors have done it better. I honesty couldn't connect to Waverly AT ALL and I usually really like those types if characters.
The plot is so good that it makes up for the characters faults though. I know there's nothing new under the sun, but this book makes it a little more obvious than usual.
Still go read it, the plot is AMAZING.

Glow it was really really original liked it a lot!

I've been searching forever for a YA fiction book based more on some religious and moral beliefs vs mythical creatures. Truly stimulating. Found myself thinking of the characters all day long, missing them when I was not reading the book. Cannot wait for then next installment!

I really did not like this book

I'm really not that picky when it comes to young adult fiction, all I want is to be reasonably entertained. But this book is honestly the worst I've read in a while. It's set up as your typical love triangle - the girl is torn between two boys - then the one boy turns out to be a violent tyrant, but the love triangle goes on! Between that and the strange religious messages at the end, I definitely won't be tuning in for part 2.

Glow

I was lucky enough to win an Advanced Readers Copy of this book. It was a very quick read with a lot of action going on. The beginning of the book was a tad slow where I had to keep telling myself that yes I wanted to find out how it ended.
I will read the rest of the series when it is available. I will be honest and say it did not grip me nearly as much as The Hunger Games. I will also say that for younger group of YA readers there may be some topics in this book that are hard for them to grasp or may need explained.
All in all I enjoyed this read and for the lovers of a Dystopian type of society you will be caught once you make through about the first 100 pages!

Great!:)

I was lucky enough to win an advanced copy of this book. I thought that the beginning was a little bit slow, but as the book kept going, the plot revealed, and more details were given about the characters, it was great. I didn't know who to trust, who was lying, and who was telling the truth. When a book does that to me I know it's great. I really enjoyed it, and am eagerly awaiting the next book. I would recommend it, especially if you enjoyed the Hunger Games series.
