Description

BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Karen Marie Moning's Bloodfever.
MacKayla Lane’s life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she’s your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman. Or so she thinks…until something extraordinary happens.
When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death–a cryptic message on Mac’s cell phone–Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister’s killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed–a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae….
As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister’s death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane–an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women–closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac’s true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book–because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds in their hands….

Disappointed

Was looking for a fun, paranormal romance and this was not it. The writing is very sophomoric that at first I thought I purchased a YA novel until suddenly the author throws in an unneeded erotica scene. It was as if the author couldn't decide between a paranormal action novel versus romance versus erotica. It felt all over the place with poor character development. It was hard to root for anyone in this book.

A New Addiction

I'm glad that I finally picked this up. It kept my interest and really left me wanting more when it ended. Some of the elements are the same as other fantasy stories that I've read, but it also feels like it has a little something special to it. I like that the female lead isn't head over heels for a guy. She wants answers because of her sister, and she keeps that as her goal. I'll continue the series for sure.

Good Start for the Fever Series

This is the first book in Karen Marie Moning's Fever Series. It sets up a very intriguing scene for the series.
This is the story of MacKayla “Mac” Lane who has lived a very sheltered life until she receives a call one day stating that her older sister, who was studying abroad in Dublin, was found dead. There are no leads and the police are filing it as cold case. So, she has the bright idea to go to Ireland herself to convince the cops to reopen the case by digging up clues and leads for them herself.
That first night in Dublin she experiences the Fae for the first time and the rest of the book is about her trying to come to terms with the fact that the Fae are real and in the world looking for a book of evil that can destroy the worlds of everyone. A book that she herself is looking for in hopes that it might lead to her sister's killer. She is helped along into this world Fae and other creatures by Jericho Barrons, who he himself is something other than human, but seems to have an affinity for saving Mac.
The other chacaters that we meet in this first installment are a Seelie prince V'Lane who likes to watch Mac strip, an Irish mobster O'Bannion and maybe a vampire or maybe not a vampire Malluce.
All in all this book is a pretty decent start to a series. There is some action and a whole lot of mystery here. I hope there is more building on the light relationship between Barrons and Mac, there seems to be something there. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Bloodfever.

Caught Fever

Definitely a mysteriously woven tale about crossing the ocean to find out what happened to a loved one that ultimately leads to finding out who you are and the world you're really living in.... I will give NOTHING away... You will be forced to read just to find out what the author has delivered to you... I will say that they're aren't many books I say l really like, but are ok to pass time with... This is one that shaping up to be far more than a passing fancy and I will avidly go forward with the series with unfettered anticipation...
Happy reading!

The Fever Series is one of the best. I also recommend the Highlander series. Could not put any of Moning’s books down!

Almost

I gave the book 4 stars because I felt it was a little slow to me. Don't get me wrong millions upon millions of fans can't be wrong but I just wasn't that into the ending of the book I wanted something that was like BAM! I didn't feel I got that.
However, I am going to read the second book cause maybe I am judging this one unfairly. ( I did give the book 4 stars so it wasn't horrible) I look forward to reading the rest of the series to see where Mac and Barrons take me. Hopefully it's on a faster more enjoyable ride then the first book.

Amazing!

I highly recommend this series.
It has a little of everything:
1. romance
2. fantasy
3. mystery
4. thrills
5. chills
6. a pre/post-apocalyptic universe
7. strong heroine (and her many stunning and admirable transformations)
8. a dark and mysterious anti-hero
Only warnings:
1. violence/gore
2. a seemingly abusive relationship
3. confusing time lapses
4. graphic sex (mostly due to "death-by-sex-fae") and language
PS the sexual is also good

Good series dragged out too long

This is the first of a five book series that tells one story. Each book ends with a cliff hanger, mid-scene, encouraging the reader to continue on. The books cannot stand alone, yet each one is bloated with extended summaries from the previous installments. This should have been a three book series, but the author drags it out across five, the middle three of which are woefully short on length and story. Not a bad series, but I found myself skimming large chunks of it.

great if you love cliche

By page three I knew this book was a waste of time. the characters are flat and every other sentence is a sophomoric cliche. It is written for high school drop outs. What a waste of digital fonts.

Okay Read

I was looking for more of a paranormal romance similar to the writing style of Kresley Cole (I've read all of her books and she is an amazing author) this was not it. It was not terrible, just different.

This is a good book!

I didn't think I would be sucked in as deeply as I have. Mac, in the beginning can be described as shallow, bordering on vapid. But the love she has for her sister shapes her in ways that made her interesting. I now have so many suspicions and questions about the two lead characters that I must read on to confirm or dispel them.

Fantastic

KMM took a departure from her highlander novels with this book and the result was wonderful! She created a story that sticks with you for days. If you haven't read this book or series you will be in for a wonderful journey!
