Description

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In this candid and gripping memoir, President George W. Bush describes the critical decisions that shaped his presidency and personal life.
George W. Bush served as president of the United States during eight of the most consequential years in American history. The decisions that reached his desk impacted people around the world and defined the times in which we live.
Decision Points brings readers inside the Texas governor’s mansion on the night of the 2000 election, aboard Air Force One during the harrowing hours after the attacks of September 11, 2001, into the Situation Room moments before the start of the war in Iraq, and behind the scenes at the White House for many other historic presidential decisions.
For the first time, we learn President Bush’s perspective and insights on:
• His decision to quit drinking and the journey that led him to his Christian faith
• The selection of the vice president, secretary of defense, secretary of state, Supreme Court justices, and other key officials
• His relationships with his wife, daughters, and parents, including heartfelt letters between the president and his father on the eve of the Iraq War
• His administration’s counterterrorism programs, including the CIA’s enhanced interrogations and the Terrorist Surveillance Program
• Why the worst moment of the presidency was hearing accusations that race played a role in the federal government’s response to Hurricane Katrina, and a critical assessment of what he would have done differently during the crisis
• His deep concern that Iraq could turn into a defeat costlier than Vietnam, and how he decided to defy public opinion by ordering the troop surge
• His legislative achievements, including tax cuts and reforming education and Medicare, as well as his setbacks, including Social Security and immigration reform
• The relationships he forged with other world leaders, including an honest assessment of those he did and didn’t trust
• Why the failure to bring Osama bin Laden to justice ranks as his biggest disappointment and why his success in denying the terrorists their fondest wish—attacking America again—is among his proudest achievements
A groundbreaking new brand of presidential memoir, Decision Points will captivate supporters, surprise critics, and change perspectives on eight remarkable years in American history—and on the man at the center of events.

The Greatest President

This is a must read for anyone interested in learning the truth from the man who presided over our great country during some of its most turbulent times. Don't take the medias opinions as fact. President Bush's time in office will be heralded in history as we see the fruits of his labor continue to shape the world towards freedom and liberty for all.

Worthless

Absolutely nothing new just a fox news scripted version of horrible decisions with a dash of fake feel good patriotism. I was really hoping to find some new insights into the man but feel totally disappointed with the book.

Come on

It was a very good read, although I don't like bush I found this to be a very fascinating book. I wish these kids would stop rating the book a 1 star just because they hate bush.

Necessary read for anyone with an opinion

Whether you agree, disagree, hate, love, or fall somewhere between these extremes on President Bush's time, it is imperative to hear it straight from the horse's mouth. We can sit and critique or praise him with little to no perspective, but this would do a great disservice to him and our country. Read it and give him the respect to explain himself to you and then make your determinations.

George Bush was a moron and fool who plunged this country into ruin! And this book was a clear reflection of that! God, Lets high five him for being able to correctly spell Decision,

Read the Book!!!

To those that use this to bash Bush, I say read the book and review the book. The book provides insights to the decisions of man who was president during a difficult time for our country. We had been attacked by a foreign power for the first time since 1812. He made difficult decisions based on imperfect information. The book does a good job providing insights to those decisions and how difficult they were to make as a man and a leader.
To find fault is easy, to do better is much more difficult.

i like the book

good book, if you liked him as president then you'll most likely like the book, if you weren't the you might not like it. however, of you like political science books then you'll probably like it. some books aren't for everyone, so get the sample first then decide, that's what i did.

Decision Points

I just finished reading this book and found it to be very insightful. It kept my interest and made me realize how overwhelming the job of President must be. I found President Bush to be an honest and sincere person. Let it be said that he was our President during a very stressful period in our history and did the best he could. Job well done Mr. President!

All Politics Aside

Although I may be a Republican… put politics to the side. This is a quality book that does what it tells you it will do… lead you through some of the hardest decisions any man has ever made, for better or for worse.
I hope all enjoy this book, regardless of political affiliation.

Very honest and great read!

Weather you like him or not, this is a great book. He is very honest in expressing his regrets. The chapter about 9/11 really shows you that he cared for America. The chapter about hurricane Katrina shows that he had regrets and admits that made mistakes. Great president and great book!!!

History will be kind to Bush- a great man

This book walks you through the difficulties of being the leader of the free world. And for those of you who criticize him so much, you think you can do better but you have no idea at all. One thing I realized was, my life was better and I was more secure during his presidency. Great book about a great man. If you say otherwise, you are entitled to it. But if my memory serves me right, all great men in history were criticized as well as Bush. One of them were even crucified - and Jesus was his name....

Enjoyed reading. Insightful.

It's nice to hear from the guy making the decisions with the info he has. Not watching the news. Good read. I used to think he was kind of nonchalant but he seems more thoughtful. It's hard to be president and my distaste for the media is growing.

This is crap

Really, kanye west's having a bad opinion of you was the lowest point in your criminal and pathetic presidency? Incredible. I'm not satisfied enough with him not being president anymore, I want his presidency wiped from the history books too.

Great insight

Explains greatly how people that are not in the decisions making role don't have all the facts, and jumping the gun of judgement is so easy to do.

Thanks for sharing

Decision Points was an amazing book documenting the times George Bush had to make those extremely tough Decisions. I'm glad he was honest and real. His decisions will be remembered for ever. This book would be great for a History class.

Politics Aside

Whether you agree with Bush's ideology or not, the book itself is very well written and insightful. Bush goes into great depth as to why he made some of the toughest decisions a U.S. president has ever had to make. The chapter on 9/11 alone is worth the price of the book.

A great book by a great man!

All the Bush haters should open up their narrow minds and read this book, so they may understand the thought process behind the decisions made over the last 8 years. President Bush is all about doing what is right and good for America.

Enjoyed the book

I personally truly enjoyed the book, and if you notice, the only negative ratings are just bashing him as a president and have nothing to do with the quality of the book. This book was well written and I enjoyed it very much!

Like Bush or not, this is an excellent book

Don't listen to the one star reviews. I would bet none of them read or even downloaded the book. Their comments are a perfect example of the standard political bashing that has the average American fed up with DC and the fanatics on both sides.
Regardless of whether you like the man or agree with what Pres Bush did, this is an excellent and insightful look at the key decisions that shaped 8 years of our history. If you like making up your own mind, you shouldn't be afraid to read what Bush, Obama, and all the other key figures in our country have to say.

Wonderfully Written

President Bush did an awesome job presenting the situation around his choices. Each person gets to chose whether or not they "liked" President Bush .... But each should respect the open and honest approach he took on this book. I have never been a big reader for these style books- but this one captivated me the entire time.
I love how he consistently gave God the glory - and how he was sure to keep the Lord always with him.
Gob bless President Bush and his family! Praise God we had him while we did! We all make mistakes. Not every choice each of us makes is correct... Praise God we are not judged the way President Bush was/is! Those who tear down his character on this review-obviously did not read the book.

Bush is a patriot

This man is way more articulate and well spoken than Obama. He might not have made his speeches sound beautiful but he meant from his heart what he was saying. Obama uses a TelePrompTer and has no meaning to his words. Bush is a true american and that is proven by the decisions he made for this country. THANK YOU MR. BUSH

Candid insight

To preface, the 1 star comments filled with vitriolic comments are likely from people who reviewed without reading the book.
I recently read this book, and was impressed with how candid Bush was in his reflection of his political career, primarily the presidential years.
I don't agree with everything he did, but he writes why he made the decisions he did, and I can't really fault him for the reasoning.
Hindsight is 20/20, and ultimately congress had the same information Bush had prior to these controversial decisions being made (Iraq and Afghanistan, primarily). For those that think it was all one man's decision, you might want to look and see how many politicians crossed partisan lines in support. Might be surprised.
Good read for anyone looking for an honest reflection by the president during some of America's most difficult times.

Worst president in US history

Shame on you Mr Bush, worst president in US history dragging the country in a senseless war based solely on lies. Look in what state Bush took over the country from Clinton and in which state he left it off. What a difference 8 years under the worst possible president can make. And now he wants to cash in with a book written by ghostwriters. What a bad joke.

Great biography! Doesn't matter what party you support.

It doesn't matter if you're liberal or conservative, this is still a great read. Everyone has their own opinion and every president receives some sort of flak in their presidency. If you are one of the people that claims George Bush is an idiot, then you are truly ignorant. This book is very well written and I respect Bush even more now despite all of the negative opinions from other people. I recommend Bush's book to anyone.

Bush was a good president

This book is worth the read rather you liked him or not. He tells you what was going through his mind during every major decision during his presidency. In advance don't listen to the one star reviews, their left wing nut jobs that still think Bush can't read.

Great insight

The book is worth the read just for the chapter on 9/11. President Bush did a great job and was very candid about his presidency.
