Description

In a daring and chilling debut, Brad Thor draws us into a sinister labyrinth of political intrigue and international terrorism, serving up an explosive cocktail of unrelenting action -- and a shattering climax -- as one man is pushed to the edge.
On the snow-covered slopes of Utah, the unthinkable has just become a nightmarish reality: thirty Secret Service agents have been viciously executed and the vacationing president of the United States is kidnapped by one of the most lethal terrorist organizations in the Middle East -- the dreaded Fatah.
But one man, surviving agent and exNavy SEAL Scot Harvath, doesn't believe the Fatah is responsible for the attack. Driven by his professional code of duty and honor -- and a solemn vow to avenge his fallen comrades -- Scot creates his own rules to get some answers. But his search for the truth raises the blood pressure of his superiors...and casts his own life in mortal jeopardy. The deadly machinations have been set in motion by a shadowy coalition, comprising some of the highest-ranking officials in government and business -- men who operate above the law, men who realize the threat Scot poses to their hidden agenda...men who will do anything to stop him.
Now framed for murder and on the run, Scot goes for broke and takes his own brand of justice to the unlikeliest place of all -- the towering mountains of Switzerland. It is there that he finds an improbable ally in the beautiful Claudia Mueller of the Swiss Federal Attorney's Office. Together they must brave the subzero temperatures and sheer heights of treacherous Mount Pilatus -- and enter the den of the most notorious team of professional killers the world has ever known.

A fast-paced, action thriller that's quite enjoyable. There was clearly a lot of effort put in to research for the details of the story. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Great read!

If u like dumb James Bond thrillers you'll enjoy. Otherwise just a stupid blah, blah super Seal story.

Great plot but dialogue is sophomoric at best.

Overall, I enjoyed this book which is the first Brad Thor novel I've read. As tough as the character Scott Horvath is portrayed to be, the dialogue between him and the antagonists sounds like stuff I heard on the playground in Jr. high school. Kinda geeky.

Fun Fun Fun!

Juvenile plotting, silly decisions, and even sillier dialogue... Difficult to continue reading... I'll assume his writing matures so I will skip a few novels ahead... My advice is to skip this one...

I stumbled across Black List while looking for a book to read one rainy day at a local supermarket. Needless to say the selection was not very impressive and nothing seemed to strike my fancy. Then I noticed Black List in the shelf, and was drawn to it. I flipped it over and scanned the back cover and decided to buy it. Once I started reading it, I could not put it down. I have now set out to read all Brad Thor's novels. I am and always will be a huge Tom Clancey fan, but Brad Thor's unique ability to rivet a reader is in my opinion, equal to if not now surpassing the master. I look forward to finishing all his books and eagerly anticipate the release of the next one. Keep up the amazing work.

Good authors are hard to find. Especially those who can spin a good tale without excess sex and profanity. I'm no prude, but I couldn't even finish the prologue. A Gay tryst and hard profanity? And this book came highly recommended by Glen Beck and Sean Hannity. I was saddened as I had really looked forward reading a new author. I gave up Tom Clancy long ago for the same reason. Why is it that writers think they can't spin a great tale without sex and hard profanity? I will take my money elsewhere and support good writers who can write great stories without the dirt. Sorry Brad, you lost more than a potential loyal reader.

Overall this was a good read. While Thor provides many details to characters' actions, sometimes he overextends his plots. I love the action and the seeming realism but find the logic wanting. I would, however, recommend this book for a great escape!

Brad Thor quickly became one of my favorite authors. I read the apostle in two days and the rest as they say is history. Having served for many years in the military I can relate to many of the characters in his stories. if you are in the mood for a good read, I highly suggest brad Thor.

My first Brad Thor book after hearing good things from other friends. I'm a big Vince Flynn fan as well as Lee Child and Brad Thor has added himself as another favorite. Great writing style and a book that kept me in suspended always wondering how Harvath was going to get his way out of the next hairy situation. Can't wait to rad the rest!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this fast paced story of Scot Horvath's quest to restore the president from a violent kidnapping. The cold temperatures of most of the book's settings were balanced by the heat of the relentless chase! Excellent page turner!

I just discovered this author with his recent best seller, Full Black. That book was so good, I bought three other Thor books, including this one, and read them nonstop. I will probably buy every book. This guy is great at writing about action, SEALS missions etc. He is now one of my top four authors. Keep them coming!

Brad Thor has become one of the great suspense-thriller authors of our time. If you enjoy reading authors like Cussler, Clancy or Baldacci, you will surely enjoy Brad Thor's work.
In this first novel of the Scot Harvath series, we are introduced to our hero and how he is immediately put to the test. From the beginning of this book to the end, Harvath is put to the test both physically and mentally.
This a great read, I could not put the book down!

Author Brad Thor has a talented ability to draw the reader into the story. The pace is fast, the plot moves along well and the characters are sufficiently developed so the reader can picture them, see what they're doing, but cannot predict their next move. Thor offers technical definitions sparingly and economically. He spares us from ad nauseum descriptions of handguns, military equipment, automobiles and other things that some writers fill pages with. He knows what he's talking about but doesn't flaunt it. In short, Thor writes like we think.
