Description

Extras, the final book in the Uglies series, is set a couple of years after the “mind-rain,” a few earth-shattering months in which the whole world woke up. The cure has spread from city to city, and the pretty regime that kept humanity in a state of bubbleheadedness has ended. Boundless human creativity, new technologies, and old dangers have been unleashed upon the world. Culture is splintering, the cities becoming radically different from each other as each makes its own way into this strange and unpredictable future . . .
One of the features of the new world is that everyone has a "feed," which is basically their own blog/myspace/tv channel. The ratings of your feed (combined with how much the city interface overhears people talking about you) determines your social status--so everyone knows at all times how famous they are.
As Scott Westerfeld explored the themes of extreme beauty in the first three Uglies books, now he takes on the world's obsession with fame and popularity. And how anyone can be an instant celebrity.

Hated this last book it was torture trying to read the whole thing I just couldn't not know what happened with David Tally. The only part worth reading was the very end because u found out about tally and David

Just started reading the fourth book and I Hate it! The first three were great but after that I want to know about taking the wilderness and David and rally's relationship! I don't care about some 15 year old kid's problems with being popular! Very disappointed. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!

I wish Tally didn't seem so mean

I thought the book was good but I wish Tally wasn't so mean. This was my least favorite part of the series. This book wasn't as realistic as the other ones and I missed Tally.

Extra indeed . . .

Skip it. The other three books are so much better than this one. It adds nothing to the others and Tally is in it for two minutes. I wish I hadn't read it.

Not great.

I didn't enjoy that his book didn't follow the main character when I was expecting it to. I felt the conclusion with Tally was incomplete in book 3. I was looking for something more, something hopeful and this book didn't have for me. It kind of made her look like an idiot. And the i felt like in the end she was just settling and she wasn't happy.

The best!

I don't really know how to say this, but here goes. Read it. Every book in the series. You've never been taken on a journey like this before. And the best part was that I didn't even know that there were four books. Extras was a total surprise and such a better ending to the series then where I thought Specials left me. So much of today's world, social issues, evolution-ized technology lives here. If you have a mind like mine, this "world", our future world, is a beautiful place with Youngblood in it. Bravo author. Bravo.

I read all 4 books, and this one was my least favorite. Tally was the main character in the other 3 but was hardly even a character in this one. She was portrayed as mean and inconsiderate, and hardly appeared for 75% of the book. It focused mostly on a girl named Aya, who was of little interest to me. It didn't give you any insight into how their world was after the "mind-rain", only this one city in Japan. The story strayed far from the other books, and was not even close to the other storylines. Overall, would definetly reccomend the series, but also warn about the difference between this book and the others. Not a fantastic book, I think I wasted money in comparison with the other 3.
